Anyone else deal with painful periods?

Try vitamin B5 take it for a month see how it goes…

I’ve had this issue since I started my first period. I have the Nexplanon implant now and my cramps hurt worse than my contractions did and I bleed sp heavily that I have to wear extremely thick pads for a couple days. Now, it could be endometriosis, but who knows?

Yes!!! Had to have surgery! I feel for you!

It could be many things including thyroid issues, seriously look into thyroid symptoms. There are many many other things that cause the bleeding issues, but adding in the night sweats and heavy bleeding it really is a tell tell sign of thyroid issues.

How do thyroid problems affect women?
Women are more likely than men to have thyroid disease. One in eight women will develop thyroid problems during her lifetime.1 In women, thyroid diseases can cause:

Problems with your menstrual period. Your thyroid helps control your menstrual cycle. Too much or too little thyroid hormone can make your periods very light, heavy, or irregular. Thyroid disease also can cause your periods to stop for several months or longer, a condition called amenorrhea. If your body’s immune system causes thyroid disease, other glands, including your ovaries, may be involved. This can lead to early menopause (before age 40).
Problems getting pregnant. When thyroid disease affects the menstrual cycle, it also affects ovulation. This can make it harder for you to get pregnant.
Problems during pregnancy. Thyroid problems during pregnancy can cause health problems for the mother and the baby.
Sometimes, symptoms of thyroid problems are mistaken for menopause symptoms. Thyroid disease, especially hypothyroidism, is more likely to develop after menopause.

Done having kids :rofl::rofl::rofl: I’ve learned that unless you have your ovaries removed the universe decides when you’re done having kids. My youngest one is 15 and I said I was done having kids… I’m currently 38 weeks :unamused::woman_facepalming::rofl:

Get a partial so you don’t go through menopause early or have to take estrogen everyday.

I ask about an ablation.

I do, but I also was diagnosed with endometriosis. It’s SO PAINFUL every month. I’ve thought about having an elective hysterectomy too just so I could have less pain! I feel like I have one good week a month. But, my OB found the right birth control pill for me that has been helping regulate my mood swings, cramps, mid-cycle bleeding, etc. I also don’t have as heavy periods (before this pill I would pass very large clots). It’s worth talking to your OB about. If you’re already on a pill or other form of BC, you may need a different kind!

Jesus. The amount of people suggesting surgery amongst other things. Neal Barnard wrote a good book about this. I’ve def noticed a difference after balancing my hormones. He writes in detail why some women get heavy uncomfortable periods. And how to fix it. I would suggest reading that before doing anything drastic. It took me about 6 months, and my periods are now only five days long and I empty my cup every six ish hours. Superb! I dont understand this push to just cut out the problem. Its your body, why not understand it more, learn about why it does what it does. Goodluck !

I have menopausal symptoms and from my understanding it causes the pms symptoms as well as night sweats. Its usually normal and can last year’s before you even start menopause. Unless you have a hormone imbalance or thyroid issue or something else, so go get bloodwork done.
And birth control can stop the cysts. Most ovarian cysts are from the egg getting stuck while being released and a cyst forming around it. No egg being released, no cysts.
Would also like to say go and be seen for any kind of infections. They can cause you to have cysts also.
I personally would not do surgery. You definitely need to have a full exam done to see where you stand and see if theres treatments you can do or a birth control you can take to keep you from having periods.

Birth control pills would help as well

I had the same problems. Had an ablation and that didn’t do a darn thing. Then had a hysterectomy. Turns out I had adenomyosis(A condition in which endometrial tissue exists within and grows into the uterine wall.) I have 4 kids. My 3rd was a c-section and they didn’t notice it until my hysterectomy :woman_facepalming:t3:

I’m 36 and have the same problem. My dr put in an IUD until we can do elective surgeries again and then I’m getting a partial hysterectomy. The IUD has helped slow the flow a lot but I’m still in excruciating pain for 7-10 days.

I had a hysterectomy for the same reasons plus a drop in iron. Best thing besides having children I ever did. I did keep my ovaries. Getting your tubes tied will just make it worse. So don’t let them try and talk you into that. Good luck :slightly_smiling_face:

Go for hysterectomy. Could be all kinds of things. Mine was caused by a strain of hpv even though I had issues with it before period age but after 20+ yrs finally got one and best thing I ever did my mood swings r worse now but then again that could be more to do with covid and all that more than actual hormones

Yes after my tubes were tied. Just the same very painful and very heavy for 2-3 days then it mellows. I take 2 midol and 3 ibuprofen starting when I get up. Sometimes a heating pad, avoid caffeine and do as little as possible while bleeding so heavy.

I was recently diagnosed with adenomyosis. My doctor put me on medication I take twice a day during my heaviest days. It helps with the bleeding a bit.

I have chronic back pain and a messed up sacroiliac joints so my menstrual cramps were extremely painful. I would have to knock myself out with pain meds two times a month. I ended up having a prolapsed bladder, uterus and other issues. While the recovery from my hysterectomy was really rough I’m so glad I did it. I only kept my ovaries so I don’t have to deal with hormone therapy right now.

I suffered for a very long time with heavy periods and severe pain along with horrible PMS. My body has never done well on birth control plus I had endometriosis and 2 cysts that ruptured. I would pass out from heavy blood loss and missed work a good bit. I couldn’t get pregnant and adopted my daughter. After my last cyst ruptured I told my OB to remove it all I’d had enough and he did a Uterine Ablation. Best thing I ever did. He burned the lining not froze it. Ive haven’t had a period since then its been almost 15 yrs ago. It totally changed my life and I still have my stuff so no hormones needed. Im 49 now. Definitely look into this instead of a hysterectomy first…especially of you have endometriosis because it feeds off of hormones and it will come back it happened to my mom. Good luck.

My doctor offered a procedure called uterine ablation. They basically singe your uterus lining so that you don’t get a period anymore. Much less invasive than a hysterectomy. I didn’t end up doing it as I went through menopause somewhat early but a very good friend did it and was happy she did.

I have been dealing with this too!!! I’m 41 done having kids and my periods are terrible. I hav nt had any luck with finding help.

Get checked to look for fibroids! I don’t know if an ablation would be enough for ya! Sorry

I’m 19 (mostly use the group as reference for my books or give my mother’s advice cuz she’s not on the group) and currently just looking for advice about the same thing. I’ve had the same problems since I was 15 and doctors haven’t tried anything but birth control for me (which didn’t help). Is there anything I can bring up to my doctor that might not require me to get a hysterectomy? I want to have the option to have children if it’s possible but my period can put me out of commission for work and school for 3 to 5 days

I am 53 and in my early 30’s had bad problems too, had an ablation done did nothing finally had to have a full hysterectomy, had twisted and flipped uterus and endometriosis, was on hormones for a while afterwards but havent had them in a long time dr wouldnt give them to me any more, but i was so much better after i finally had the hysterectomy you really need to see a dr for your issues your having good luck hope things get better for you😊

I had this and ended up having the novasure procedure done. It helped me so much! Mood swings r still here but not as bad and as far as the bleeding goes some months I only spot, whereas before I would have to change every couple hours and I pretty much wore pads so big they were like diaper. I could not wear tampons. I always woke up with blood spillage. Like I said now some months I don’t do anything but spot a little bit.

My doctor suggested Aleve for the pain, which has the added side effect of lightening your period with time. I find that it works better than Pampering or ibuprofen

I have similar symptoms and found out I have a thyroid issue. Get yours checked out!

I had a ablation a few months ago. My cramping stopped and my period was only 2 days. They say it could stop them all together. Best decision I have ever made.

I have endometriosis and I have all the same symptoms. Best answer a week before your period take a daily dose of ibuprofen at least 400mg. This will build up the medicine in your body so my the time your period starts the inflammatory response is less. I used to be on BC to help but ended up having a blood clot/ pulmonary embolism so I can no longer have hormones of any kind. Now the doctor gives me a narcotic pain killer and I live with Thermacare heat wraps. Not much you can do for the night sweats I have tried pretty much all theories but otc iron tabs help prevent anemia from heavy blood loss. I have a son but we would like one more but in your case if you are done having kids the ablation procedure would prob be your best bet because if you do have endometriosis hormones can make it grow back even after a partial hysterectomy. Good luck and be completely honest with your DR. We women often tend not to tell ALL THE EMBARRASSING details but the doc needs to know it all. A lot of ob/gyn are using some psych Meds to balance mood from hormonal mood swings. Almost always solutions

I had a hysterectomy back in January of this year. I had horrible periods every month with really bad cramps and back pain. Best thing I did was have the hysterectomy. As long as you know you are definitely done with kids I would definitely ask your dr about it

I had a partial hysterectomy 4 years ago. Stopped the horrible periods and pms symptoms, but I didn’t have to go on hormones. Best decision I ever made. I was 41 at the time.

Get your hormone levels tested. It sounds like perimenopause. I had the same symptoms at 31 (I should’ve had my levels checked then), took ibuprofen (it lessened the bleeding somewhat for me) and went into full menopause at 45. CBD can help with mood.

I was 47 and had a full hysterectomy that got rid of my pain completely. Though my doctor didnt find issues with my regular exams, when they did the hysterectomy and sent everything to pathology they found what was causing my heavy bleeding and pains

I had the same and was deciding on having an ablation but met my now husband and had an IUD placed. Best decision, hardly ever had a period. Everyone reacts differently, but this worked for me.

I had really bad periods. Always doubled over and most times home from school bedridden. After having my child I got the mirena. No periods or even extreme moods. I know it doesn’t work for everyone but it worked wonders for me. Good luck

Yes for too many years. Talk to your GYN. There are rules that have to be met before the doctor can ethically do the surgery. Ask and if he hems and haws then call him every month complaining. That way it will be documented. Good luck.

I was 31 when I had a full hysterectomy. It was going to be a partial but found out my endometriosis has spread. I had very painful periods and was getting more irregular. The hysterectomy was a blessing!!!

I had fibroids so bad I had a hysterectomy! This was about 20 yrs ago. Get checked for those. The pain and bleeding was horrible!

This was me after i had my last daughter. I would get hot and cold chills, puke horrible bleeding i had to lay with my legs literally up all day and my cramps i had in my legs were unbearable! I had several tests done but they could never figure out why i would get SO SICK every month. I tried the depo shot it made it worse! I finally got on seasonal and take NO breaks from it and my problems completely stopped! Good luck i know how absolutely horrible this is.

I suffered same as you. Finally my Dr recommended Ablation of uterus lining. In Dr office procedure with little recovery and No more periods no more pain, nausea and still have overies and hormones. Worth it to take care of yourself

Have an ablation. Less invasive and it is known to stop your periods all together. I’m getting ready to have it done and the nurse for my gyn said she had it 3 years ago and hasn’t had a period since.

I had the same issue. Had a D & C earlier this year it helped immensely! My doc said if my periods started coming back heavier he would do an ablation

I got a uterine ablation last year. It helped.

I couldn’t sit couldn’t stand without everything feeling like it was going to fall out. Got hives a couple days before period.

I apologize if someone already mentioned it but have you been checked for endometriosis. Thats what i had and ended up getting a full hysterectomy.

I have the nexpalon and haven’t had a period in over 9 years not even the symptoms I love it.

It could also be adenomyosis which is what they suspected I had so I just 5 weeks ago had a partial hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) since the other options for treatment didn’t work for me. Oh and I’m only 32.

Recently but I’m 45 and those are pretty standard peri-menopause symptoms. Definitely talk to your Doctor because 31 seems too young.

This ! I had my tubes tied a few months ago after having 2nd baby at 38 and i just turned 39 in August and was so not planned lol i always had heavy, painful periods with mood swings . my doctors said my periods would be more painful after the surgery and my last one felt so painful i wanted to rip out all the things by hand … I use a hearing pad and leftover 800 mg ibuprofen from my delivery .

I’m looking at ablation too… tried an IUD and bleed lightly for 2 weeks… plus it made my migraines 10x worse.

Same is happening to me… i’m in my 40s so I thought it was menopause starting or the ho so horrible painful fibroids.

Im 33 and have peri menopause and spoke to a gyn whenni have my tubes removed. Still waiting to see her from my op.
I also pcos as well and suffer alot with my monthlies as well.
Im taking menopause tablets to help with night sweats and mood swings. A herbal balance to help with it all.

mine were unbearable! I had a partial hysterectomy which means they only left my ovaries so I can still get the hormones but no more periods. I had it done in 2017 and it was the beat thing ever!

I dealt with that. Dr found a grapefruit sized cyst on one ovarie and soccer ball sized on the other one. I wouldn’t recommend a total hysterectomy if you don’t need one.

Ask your gyne about uterine ablation. Painful periods are often a sign of endometriosis and an ablation can help that. Takes five minutes in your gyne’s office.

I had the same problem and my doctor told me I could have a coil fitted best thing I ever done no periods no pain ask your doctor about it

Have you tried any type of birth control? I’m on the depo shot and I don’t have the hormonal changes or periods anymore. I’m 48 and very very done having kids lol I’m a grandma now. It’s really helped tho.

Sounds like what I went thru. Turned out it was endometriosis. Had to have a uterine ablation done

I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 38, it was wonderful not having heavy periods and terrible pain, make sure you have a great surgeon

I had an ablation for the problems that you are experiencing, and it was a Godsend.

Ask your doctor about an iud before contemplating a full hysterectomy. Different iuds will control the heavy bleeding.

Had the same problem. Just take it all out. Leave ovaries if possible so you don’t have to anything for hot flashes.

I’m almost 30 and haven’t had painful periods until after I had my son in 2015. I have had tons on blood work, and tests ran to see if I have endometriosis or something else and my doctor basically said suck it up it’s just your fists on you ovaries… ummm since when does cists make you feel like you are dying and in labor when you aren’t pregnant

Definitely talk with dr. Could be several different things. I had same issue found out decade later had thyroid issues

I would consult your doctor. I was on birth control starting at 16 because of painful periods. Got off at 22 to attempt to have kids. Never did but not going to at this point. Struggled with 21 day cycles and 8 day heavy periods for years. Got back on birth control not to prevent kids but to control my symptoms. The low dose of hormones seems to work for me for now. Birth control has come a long way since it was created and although I don’t recommend hormones if you don’t need them, it is what has worked for me and my mental health.

Does ablation get rid of cramps? Or just the heavy bleeding?

Obviously not me, but some issues friends of mine have had…

PCOS or PolyCystic Ovarion Syndrom which allows cysts to grow on your ovaries.

Endometryosis, which is a type of fibrosis that causes fibroids and scarring of the ovaries

Ovarian Cancer

My mom had the same issues. After many years & tests we found out it was her thyroid

You are problegoing threw the change I cramped really bad before going threw it

I had the same thing and had cysts on ovaries. Cysts were removed at 27 and 29. Had a full hysterectomy at age 32. Talk with your doctors

Bananas and a heat pad will help with pain, avoid aspirin and alcohol because it will make the pain worse.

I had similar issues and finally had a hysterectomy… hands down best decision ever

Yes! I get horrible cramps 2 days before and then i bleed through 4-6 super tampons in a few hours. Normally have to sleep in the tub.

I dealt with same thing but I was 45 yrs old so my dr agreed to full hysterectomy some wont do it till 50yrs or so but I think if a woman is thru having kids it should be her choice

I had terrible cramps I think I had endometriosis I couldn’t get pregnant for 5 years I cried every time I had a period. But after I got pregnant and then I had baby no more cramps every month was fine.I had a uterus prolapse at 38 they took it out no more periods i still kept my ovaries

Yes I do I was diagnosed with endometriosis

I am 33 in feb. Same problem. Wish i could help, waiting for an upcoming appointment myself. I know your pain and wish you the best of luck.

Hysterectomy and don’t look back, the best thing in the world

Talk to your doctor about getting muscle relaxers. I take 1 with 3-4 ibuprofen and it lasts all day

I had the same problem my dr did a hysterectomy best thing I ever did

You can get on the pill and take it so you miss your period all together!

I do and also have endometriosis😔

Endometriosis go see specialist. Daughter just went thru it you need specialist

Yep. Get the mirena. No more periods!! Hooray.

Try anti-depresstant. Keeps your hormones level.

Could be endometriosis should be checked

Go see a gyno you could have endometriosis

You think it will go away???

Try cramping and bleeding for 10 to 15 days

Get uterine ablation

Im thinking its fibroids talk. 2 ur doc

All that went away when I got on the pill

Endometriosis have you uterus scraped

So instead of seeing a doctor and getting medical advise you come and ask on Facebook Your an ass

Before considering any surgery please talk to your Dr first.

What I have found works for me is: for the pain I take the Walgreens brand mensural pain reliever (works better than any of the name brand stuff) and it also helps with some of the moods (I take 1/2 pill when the moods start). You also need to stay hydrated, take vitamins and eat what you can that’s high in iron. Make sure you do talk with your doctor as it can be many things that is causing this. Remember, this works best for me but I do hope this may help.

I have a similar problem. My periods went from a regular flow to heavy and I had so much pain that I need to be in bed the whole time. Not to mention I was very sick. I cant eat while on my period. The dr suggested birth control. I’ve been on nexplanon for a month and my period is so much better. No pain, no nausea. I can now function. If you’re 100% sure about not having kids then that is an option but a lot of drs wont do a hysterectomy without a medical condition. I knew a girl with serious problems and they did a partial and then a couple years later her remaining ovary burst. I dont know if getting your tubes tied will help with periods but that could be an option too.
