Anyone have experience with babies with failure to thrive?

What other symptoms does he have?
Get his heart checked ASAP!
My daughter was born with an undiagnosed CHD. Her main symptom was failure to thrive. She screamed while eating. Head sweats. That’s it! Doctors were negligent in diagnosis for months. Had to get a second opinion which saved her life. She was only in 7% heart function.

Don’t wait. See other doctors! There’s a reason he’s loosing weight, and it may be serious.

My daughter needed emergency open heart surgery immediately after we found out.

Yes! My daughter had this an ended up getting a feeding tube that ran slowly on a pump 24/7 but she had a genetic disorder and so she passed away. Totally different circumstances but the feeding tube did help and minimized throwing up. Praying for your child! Oh and for those who wanna smart off, yes she took the bottle just fine but could not keep her formula down🙄

Please don’t take medical advice from the internet. Trust your pediatricians. They want to see your baby healthy.

Get a second opinion. Also, if you can get some donor breastmilk I would try that too.

I’ve seen babies begin to thrive after Chiropractic adjustments. Look into a gonstead chiropractor in your areas that sees newborns and infants. It’s a game changer.

First I want to assure you that you are doing nothing wrong Momma. Second I want to assure you that all babies are different and third I’d like to suggest going to the specialist just to see what they say

Not the same thing but my daughter was super behind in speech so we were recommended to a hearing specialist and everything check out. Then we went to a speech specialist and was told that verbally she may be behind but her nonverbal communication was spot on so she wasn’t as far behind as the pediatrician said

It could just be your pediatrician over reacting

My second has a “heart marker” a small heart defect that normally means the baby has DS but she doesnt and has no other problems shes just in the 2% that have it and only that so it could just mean your babies rare and has a faster metabolism then most

Either way dont stress too much the doctors aren’t going to let your baby fall behind if they can help it

My son went to so many specialists for ‘failure to thrive’. By the time he turned 3 he stayed tiny and didn’t gain any weight or grow any inches up until he turned 7. We went through years of testing and hospital stays and everything else and they never could figure out anything. He just turned 8 and has suddenly shot up over 8” and 3 clothes sizes (from 3T to 6/7) for no specific reason.
Try not to stress too much and just hang in there. Everything could end up being okay without a ton of issues.

This sounds fine??? My son was 6lbs 3oz at birth and by the time we got home from the hospital and went back for a follow up 2 days later he weighed 5lbs 14oz. He got back up to 6lbs in a week or so but his weight gain was slow going when we were EBF. It wasn’t til we switched to formula that he started chunking up.

Breastfed babies are typically smaller. Most doctors should know this by now. And unless your baby is sitting stagnant and gaining NO weight or losing weight, I really don’t understand why they’re being so quick to call it failure to thrive.

I had my daughter in April at 28 weeks and she weighed 1 lb 12 oz… She was put on Similac Neosure for the extra calories. She is now home from the hospital since July and almost 10 pounds. I know it is different circumstances, but the neosure has more calories for babies to intake. Maybe you can ask your pediatrician about it. It says for babies born prematurely but I don’t think it should matter… Because it may help with weight gain.

Is he suffering from reflux and vomiting up much of his feed? My daughter ended up back in NICU with a feeding tube after dropping right down to 2nd percentile from 25th. Feeding was generally a struggle however she managed to get back to the 25th centile by four months. She’s almost four years old now and doing fine. Was found to have a dairy allergy and was also on omeprazole briefly until we began solids. Don’t stress, just follow the advice and you’ll all get through

My daughter did and they put her in the hospital and told me to put rice cereal in her bottle just a little bit and that did help her because she would puke up everything she ate she started gaining weight then and I don’t know if this had do With it but she was also delayed not hitting her mile markers after that it took longer but she is now a healthy 14 year old still a little behind but she is ok

My 1st born was a lot like this, had at 37wks, swallowed a lot of fluid, would choke and gag all the time, ended up having severe acid reflux, and dairy allergies so bad that he couldnt hardly keep anything down, he was put on prescription formulas and still struggled with this and was also on meds and seeing a gi specialist, nothing really helped much until he was maybe a year or older. Try not to stress about the percentiles, all babies are different, mine are very small/petite like their father.

i would ask your doctor to look into acid reflux or possibly adding oatmeal to his formula. be careful with formulas fortified with rice as it can bind them up something awful. my son wouldnt gain weight for the first couple months and they kept threatening to admit us both to the hospital i switch to enfamil ar he constipated him the enfamil gentleeease he did okay on it then i switched him to the orange can gerber and kept him on that for over 5 months under 11 months he just stopped spitting up and now at 15 months he is a mini tank.

I don’t have any advice. I know that has to be scary. We had trouble when our son was older… getting him to eat solids. Not the same though. Hang in there. You’re a good momma and doing everything you can for your baby. I’ll be in prayer for you and your sweet little one! Keep us posted.

I don’t know anything about failure to thrive, but as a mother with four children I do know a thing or two. The best advice I can give you is listen to your gut. We had an issue with our son and our pediatrician kept throwing medicine at our son and saying it’s fine and this and that the other. In the end I just knew it wasn’t the right thing and we switch pediatricians and sure enough it wasn’t the right thing and the fix was much simpler than what the first doctor was trying to do. Go to as many doctors as you need. Good luck, mama!

my son weighed 7lbs 12.3oz when he was born. i was told he was going to be pushing 10lbs. well, they were wrong. my son is now 9, 2" (im 5’6) shorter than me, and weighs 140lbs. he had lost weight within the first month, then started gaining once we got his acid reflux (gurd) under control with liquid meds. it helped so much. my son was also hungry ALL the time… so with doctors permission, we added the rice or oatmeal to his formula at night and in the mornings. it kept him full. my sons doctor now tells me hes “obese”… hes always been off the charts- 99 percentile… hes tall and stocky.

Some of these comments…smh. Almost all babies drop weight after they are born and weigh less at their first appointment…with that being said DO NOT LISTEN to half of these parents saying that is the reason for your babies weight loss and to not stress. There is clearly some other issue at hand and I would definitely seek other pediatric professional opinions. My first child weighed 5 lbs 15 ounces at birth, 36 weeks. He could only drink Enfamil AR he was in newborn & preemie clothes for an entire month. His weight at his first appointment was 5lbs 6 oz. He ate every 2 hrs and was still smaller at his first appointment. He was born prematurely and this was solely his weight issue. With your circumstances I would see a specialist not just your local doctor/ped. Don’t wait!

My daughter was failure to thrive and left the picu with a feeding tube and later needed a surgery for a fundoplication and to place a G tube because of GERD. For height and weight, she has always been bellow the first percentile. She was on a prescription formula to gain/maintain her weight until she was about a year and half. She hasn’t had her feeding tube until she was 2 and half and she’s just smaller than average, she’ll be 6 next month.

My niece had this. Later in life was diagnosed with a condition where her body doesn’t absorb nutrients from her food. She struggles.

My second son was 9 lbs 2 oz at birth. I know this does not sound like failure to thrith but he kept dropping weight. He spit up his formula and then threw it up,projectile vomitting. They changed his formula numerous times. He was unable to tolerate any of it. Finally at 15 months weighing only 12 lbs a specialest determined he was severly lactose intolerant and was forced to give him medication that was only meant for children over 5. Without he would have died. He is now 48 years old,6’3" and 220lbs very healthy and the father of 4.

My son was. He ended up being lactose intolerant and had to be put on soy milk. A dietician is the one that figured this out. Two different week long hospital stays… It was the worst experience of our lives. He still to this day at 4 years old cannot have dairy.

My daughter was failure to thrive and after no success with meds and all the expensive formulas, her pediatric GI doc recommended adding extra formula to her bottles and it worked. She began gaining weight snd it also helped with her acid reflux. She was a different baby once we did that.

My youngest was a 26 weeker and only 9 lbs at 1 year old. We tried everything, he was even hospitalized for 2 weeks to check his progress and run tests.
He’s 17 now, still tiny. He eats like a horse but doesn’t gain weight.
I’d say follow what dr recommends and try different formulas.

I went through this with my middle son. He weighed 9lbs 5.5oz. I had to feed him 1oz per hour. He never ate baby food and never drank more than six ounces. He is my skinny kid and is thriving at the age of 23. They just told me feed what ever he will eat and have plenty of it. He loved pizza, salad, yogurt, and cheese. Few other things but that was pretty much his diet for his childhood. Yes he was seen a lot. He was also collick. I just made him drink that Oz every hour a on special formula of course. 10 months He started on whole milk which helped hold his weight.

I went through it with my youngest, he was 6lbs 4oz when he was born and 7 pounds even at 4 months old… His doctor admitted him to the hospital, he was there for 2 1/2 weeks, he got some testing done, we found out he has a milk allergy and really bad gerd. He is 6 months old and 14 pounds now… It could be something like that, which a formula change would help. I would listen to your doctors recommendations, try feeding every 2 1/2 hours then a little more (like an ounce) 30 or 45 minutes after they eat. Just to help some with calorie intake. try not to stress about it too much mama, prayers for you and your little boy:relieved::yellow_heart:

Definitely see a specialist. Could be nothing, but could be an underlying issue. My son was failure to thrive due to heart/lung issues. He was burning more calories feeding than he was getting. Better to be overly cautious.

My oldest weight 6lbs 15oz at birth. Lost a little and was down to like 6lbs 12oz by time we left the hospital. She didn’t get back to birth weight until she was almost 3 months old for us it was a combination of her having reflux and my milk not being fatty enough or keeping up with her spitting up half a feeding every time. We switch to formula at 7 weeks and it still took a while. She was never labeled failed to thrive( although her doctor was a quack) we had appointments every week from 2 weeks til 3 months. Now she is a giant shes user 90th percentile in hight and weight and has no medical issues.

My baby was dropping weight as well and hated the boob/ bottle, basically just anything sucking in general, even though there was no tongue or lip tie situation. He had constipation issues and had to switch a bunch of formulas and got a bad relationship with feeding from the get go…

Long story short, his weight was dropping and he was refusing to eat … so mama instincts kicked in to keep him alive and I started syringe feeding him liquids, (like those 5ml things you get from baby medicine) formula, milk, anything to keep him going lol, I know sounds crazy but it worked and now he’s at 36%. Definitely don’t do it for long though or he/she will get used to that and it took us longer to train him to drink from a straw or cup once he became a toddler.

But hey, in the meantime it worked to fatten him up and he’s alive so 🤷 :+1:

Hang in there!

My son was born at 37wks weighing 8lbs 4oz sept 2017 and he lost a whole a pound before any doctor would believe us that something was wrong cause he couldn’t hold food down, at 3wks he was admitted to the nicu for i think 4 or 5 days for failure to thrive and when we left they had us on a strict schedule of feeding every 2hrs i can’t remember the recommended ounces for newborns anymore but they had us up it one ounce. We had him on allimentum(sp?) And he started gaining cause they also had him on reflux meds so he could hold food down, but he just turned 4 on the 4th and he’s 50lbs ^.^

When my son began to lose weight, his doctor suggested adding rice to his milk. It helped tremendously. Within just a week, he gained almost a pound.

My son was failure to thrive due to a medical condition from birth- almost 10 months he is finally in the good range for his weight just feed as recommended and what he will tolerate maybe try moving the feeding to every two hours if he can tolerate it with out spitting up

My son was always in the 5-10th percentile and I was told failure to thrive as well but he turned out totally healthy. He just wasn’t all that hungry. He was given good food several times a day but he’d only eat a few bites and be done. He was the laziest breastfeeder ever lol Plus, he comes from tiny stock. His abuela is under 5ft tall and no one on my side is taller than 5’6 and that’s tall compared to most of us lol Failure to thrive doesn’t always mean anything more than “the baby is small.” If he’s growing steadily, like his height and weight are growing together proportionately, and if he’s developing normally in other ways and is active and alert. I would just keep feeding him however much he’ll eat and not worry too much.

My special needs daughter was failure to thrive. She was sent for a video floroscopy, which in turn sent her for “feeding therapy”. The therapists used a nubby brush to stimulate the gums, etc. Fast forward to today, my daughter is perfectly fine, normal height and weight NO EATING issues what so ever!!! Hope this helps, best of luck to you

I also had my son at 37 weeks in August and he had some trouble gaining weight, starting at 6# and dropping to 5# 10oz. Following his pediatrician’s direction, I nursed him every 2-3 hours or when he wanted if more, and followed up with 1oz formula about 30 minutes after. He started to do much better after 3 weeks of concerning weights and narrowly avoided the FTT diagnosis. I hope everything works out for your little one too!

My 2nd was my failure to thrive. It took several doctors and 2 years for him to reach 17lbs. He had to have a prescribed formula. He had some minor health issues and was very small for his age until about 9.
He does have a weaker immune system and a migraine disorder. he’s now 12 and almost caught up to the growth curve!

My daughter now 10 was always in that category. She ate okay but was just tiny. Let me just say some kids are just different and it isnt any thing youre doing wrong. Sometimes doctors get you concerned over nothing and dont realize those charts on percentage is absolutely ridiculous My son was always skinny and small too i was concerned now he is strong and tall and thriving. Screw the chart system. Not all children are big.

My oldest was considered that bc at a year she barely weighed 17 by 3 she was not even 25 lbs and yet there was nothing wrong with her and she ate everything, she is now 15 stands at 5’4 and weighs 140 lbs and is considered “overweight” as long as your baby is eating and actually striving then the weight will eventually catch up. Try rice in the bottles to add fat to the formula, start baby foods around 3/4 months and once foods start they start gaining more

My daughter ended up in the hospital at 3 months for failure to thrive. She was born 7lb 11oz, 3 months of breast feeding and she was 8lb 4 oz. We went to all checkups and weigh ins. Nobody, myself included, realized that she wasn’t gaining weight. At 3 months dad watched her for 7-8 hours while I slept. When I woke up she was in the same *clean diaper I put her in, when she did pee it was orange. Pediatrician wouldn’t listen to me that something was wrong. I went and refused to leave until he finally figured out that she wasn’t gaining any weight. I switched to formula immediately and within a week she was in the hospital. She was projectile vomiting anything she took in. I spent a week in the hospital with her. They did absolutely nothing but shove camera down her throat and insisted it couldn’t possibly be the formula. I had her discharged against Drs orders, followed with threats of Cps, and took her out of state to my moms. We bought like $150 in different formula and actually found one that she could keep down and started actually gaining weight.

Don’t stress my daughter she was 6lbs 9ozs when she left the hospital she was down to 5lbs 6 ozs she didn’t gain her birthday weight back for over a month by 6 months old she was still in new 0-3 months she’s 9 now and healthy happy and eats great

I would have the baby checked for tongue/lip tie and also have your baby checked for reflux. If you don’t feel like your pediatrician is a good match get a second opinion from another pediatrician. Just make sure your not missing any feedings and also keep track of wet diapers. My second son was very tiny/underweight until 6months but at birth weighed 8lbs 5oz abs was 21.5” long but was not gaining after the hospital. He has severe reflux and also had a tongue /lip tie. He is now almost 8 years old and 95 percentile on height and weight.

My son was failure to thrive for like 8 months. We worked with GI and upped the calories in his formula by mixing it heavier and it helped a lot but he really didn’t come out of it till he got on solids. I would ask for a GI referral

Hey!
I have twins. They were born at 28w2d. Obviously nicu time occurred. They will be 5 next weekend and were diagnosed failure to thrive at 1 year old. We ended up getting gtubes at 3 years old and it was the best decision we have ever made. We were initially given pediasure to take orally, then pediasure 1.5 and landed on a gtube when they refused it by mouth after 2 years. They are still tiny. Almost 5 and 30 lbs a piece.

I had my daughter at 37+6 at 7lb3.5oz. because she was a few weeks early it was difficult to get her to drink her milk, and she threw up at every bottle. It turned out she had CMPA so I was given special formula. But I was also given a milk thickener called Carobel from cow & gate, which helped her keep the milk down and gain weight. You could try different formulas and maybe get a milk thickener. Just know that you’re doing amazing, you’re such a caring mother

All my kids were tiny. My smallest weighting in at 4.9 pounds, my next biggest at 5 pounds 8.5 ounces and my biggest at 5 pounds 8.6 ounces. My kids are all grown up. They always stayed in the 3-8 percentile most of their childhood. My son is normal weight after becoming an adult. My 2 daughters are still thin but normal weight for them. Good luck momma. You are doing great.

This is the only time I will ever suggest u make sure and wake that baby every 3 hrs to feed even if baby doesn’t want to wake up get him undressed talk to him tickle his toes whatever u have to do without hurting him obviously that should go without saying but it’s the net…just make sure baby is absolutely eating every 3 hrs max specially since u are not breastfeeding

My twins have always been small born 3lbs and 4lbs. They are 2 and still have failure to thrive and aren’t even in the 10th percentile for their weight. They are only 25lbs

My oldest son was born 6.4 lbs. At 1 week was down to 5.10. 2 weeks he was 6lbs. At 4 weeks I was starting to worry because he was only 6.4 the Dr send him for blood tests. Everything came back normal. He stayed small through his younger years. Checkups were always normal. He was always a picky eater. At 13 he suddenly had a growth spurt and started getting tall. Now he’s almost 20 years old. 6ft tall but still very slim. 125lbs. All kids are different. I find my boys are tall and skinny. My girls are shorter and average weight. Good luck mama. Sometimes it just takes time. :blue_heart: All 5 of my kids lost weight before they gained it back. Good luck and congratulations! :tada:

Get him checked to rule out pyloric stenosis, my son had that and needed a surgery to repair it at a month old and now he’s a healthy husky 4yo

Is the baby still spitting up their formula? If it is ask doctor first about the formula with cereal already in it. My 9 month old daughter got put on it for not holding her food in. She was loosing weight. The doctor said she needed the extra coating. I’d never heard of cereal already in the formula but it’s real.

My daughter did the same, although I was breastfeeding. It ended up being related to her FPIES (food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome) and she is now 19 months old, still very petite at the 20th percentile. She has so many food triggers (citrus, berries, tomatoes, apples, grapes, rice, oats, wheat, soy, dairy). She vomited profusely, has loose mucusy stools that smelled like vinegar, blood in her stools, burn like diaper rash (from malabsorption) and skin reactions. She was tested for allergies and only had a few mild allergies, but her body still reacts to all the above mentioned foods. Once we cut out some trigger foods from my diet when nursing things got better as far as her gaining weight. Once she started eating solids we did a lot of trial and error and avoided all foods she reacted to. They also put her on Elecare Jr formula at 1 year since she could not have milk, soy milk, nut or oat milk to help her gain some more weight. Sending you hugs mama, I know it can be overwhelming!

A lot of these comments are similar to what I’ve been through with my youngest. She was born prematurely n had failure to thrive and couldn’t coordinate sucking n swallowing, (I know it’s different then what your going through) my baby was put on feeding tubes and was hypotonic. She later was diagnosed with “Prader Willie Syndrome” at the beginning of her life she’d need assistance in getting the nutrients she needed but later on would be opposite and would need to be stopped cause her weight wouldn’t be able to be controlled. And that’s exactly how it went she was small for the longest time then all of a sudden went on a growth spurt and went 5-6 sizes up within a year. The doctors explained to me it was a very rare syndrome that just started being found in babies usually is found later on in life. They have very high chance of being obese when they get older. Just thought I’d share what my baby was diagnosed with

How is he doing with his feeds? Spitting up? Is he jaundice? Stressful birth? Is he pooping/how many pees a day?
At his current weight he should be getting a minimum of 17ish ozs per day just for proper hydration.
The small, frequent feeds will help. If he’s sleepy/sleeping through feeds(4+hrs) I would keep waking him every 3 hrs to feed. Strip him down, change his bum to get him up.
3-4 ozs every 3 hours, 7-8 feeds in 24 hours.

Its normal to drop a little weight after birth their pooping out all the amniotic fluid they swollow… My son was in the nicu the first 9 days and every 3 hours they wanted him eating 60 ml.

Not sure which formula you are using, both Enfamil and Similac make a premie formula that is higher in calories. Regarding the reflux, my daughter had it bad and was put on medication after we saw a specialist but it was also largely associated with a cows milk protein intolerance. I BFed and had to eliminate all dairy, after that she kept everything down! There are special formulas for this also. I mention this because babies guts can be really compromised if they have this intolerance and it can affect how the nutrients are being absorbed.

All I can say is this. My best friend’s son is still failure to thrive at 15 but he must have shot up 2 feet over the summer and we are blown away at his progress. Keep doing what they tell you to do. It will take time but it will eventually get better.

Keep a feeding log so they know exactly what he is taking in. It will be better then just telling them he eats every few hours. Keep track of how much, did he spit it up, etc.

My son was 6.4 lb when he was born n den dropped to 5.5 by the time he was a month old…… I started formula along with breast feed with an interval of every 2 hours n by godz grace it helped him get bttr…… I hope n pray it works fr ur lil one too😇

My eldest had failure to thrive (breastfeeding issues). She was just over 3kg at birth and spent a week in NICU.
We swapped to formula and she chunked up nearly a kilo in a week.

She’s now a very healthy nine year old. She’s tall for her age but her weight is perfect. No intellectual or physical problems at all.

My son was only 2 1/2 pounds at birth. When he came home at 4 months, he was only 8 pounds. We used extra formula to water ratio (per doctors order) to add more calories. We also used an NG feeding tube to supplement feeding when we felt he didn’t eat enough.

My son was born august 3rd 6lbs 3.5oz & going home weight was 6lbs 1oz & our first appt was a days later & he was 6lbs even & in the 6% so we had to have a weight recheck & he was 6lbs 4oz at 2 weeks & at a month old he was 7lbs 9oz and in the 3% tile. But overall he is fine.

My daughter was failure to thrive, By 6 weeks they had me switch her to formula fully, And she started gaining weight, And hasn’t looked back since, She’s now almost 3 and a chonky little beasty lol

I make small kids too. My son went from 11% to 2% and his pediatrician isn’t concerned because he’s still on the growth curve. I’m sorry.

My daughter was the same she swallowed fluid and didn’t eat for a week she lost a good three pounds in nicu but I just didn’t give up it took alittle but she got it and now she’s 6

Failure to thrive, i have seen it in some of my foster babies due to being drug addicted at birth

What my main question would be is the growth chart going off of his original birth weight or the weight that was taken after fluid had been expelled and accounting for the normal weight drop for most babies being 10% or less? If your baby dropped a decent bit of weight from the fluid and normal newborn fluctuations over the first few days of life, they need to take that into account. Typical weight gain for babies up to 6 months is approximately 1-1.5 lbs per month. They need to take into account what his lowest taken weight was prior to beginning to gain. With my daughter she was born 5lbs 6oz. Before we left the hospital she was 4lbs 14oz. Our peds was more so going off of that 4lb 14oz which is the point she was at her lowest and began gaining. You should also ask if the chart they’re referring to is a national growth charge for an “average” size baby, or for your own baby’s personal growth. It’s sounding as though they’re going off of a national chart if he was 8 lbs and gained to almost 8 and a half lbs in a week. That growth sounds great if so, and I’d recommend getting another opinion.

Find a new dr. He weighed 7 something, then he weighed 8, and a week later he weighed 8.5. He’s gaining, He’s eating… get a 2nd opinion

I went through it and they will just put your baby on a special formula to help them gain weight.

The doctor said the same thing about my son. Hes 3 now and is the 8% his metabolism is high and he’s really active. He eats everything all the time. Maybe try cereal in the bottle. We did that with my oldest bc of excessive spitting up.

My baby was failure to thrive, switched him to formula because he didn’t get calories from my milk and test ruled out anything medically wrong.

Babies are all different so see a nutritionist who can calculate what he needs to eat with his height/weight.

We had to see a nutritionist and she told us to add 1/2 scoop extra of formula for his weight/height

My son when he was born seemed to struggle keeping bottles down, so when my partner and I took him to the doctors about it they put him on a thickener called Carobel and it worked wonders in getting his bottles to stay down. This can be bought over the counter locally to me but it would be best seeing a GP and getting it on prescription if it was going to be used I would think. Personally wouldn’t give it unless I was properly recommended but it may possibly be something that helps in this case too.

My son had failure to thrive, his doctor prescribed pedisure. My son is now 12 and is amazing.

Dr had me give this to my daughter Dr was able to write a pecription for it she was just like this

He could have toung tie my 3 rd did he had complications eating n gaining weight they discovered that clippec it n he wuz fine since

I’ve heard of adding karo corn syrup to formula for added calories & loosening stools. Call your doctor and ask them if it would be okay and if it would help. You shouldn’t need an appointment to ask about it.

Add baby cereal! My daughter was the same way. But the cereal helps them gain weight. My baby was ready to eat regular food by 4 months.

Research online for breastmilk bank. It contains a lot of fat and also useful immunity things. May give it a try!

During the first month my kids always lost a little bit of weight, the doctor told me it was normal, if he’s eating every three hours like you say, where is the formula going, does he have a lot of diarrhea, spitting up or vomiting?

I would try breastfeeding exclusively for a few weeks. Babies absorb nutrients better and faster.

See if there are any milk banks locally that you could get breastmilk from. It’s higher in fats and a lot more digestible than formula. Sounds like you are on top of it so it must be something you aren’t aware of.

My sister’s baby had failure to thrive and they put her on alimentum formula and she improved she just couldn’t take the Similac blue can.

When my son was struggling i added extra scoops formula to his milj. Even when bf i gave formula in the milk to add calories

This is gonna sound crazy to some but goat milk is absolutely amazing!!

My children have always been small. My oldest was 16 1/2in and 4lbs 1oz at birth 3lb 14oz when he came home 3 days later. Now he is 15 and 5’10" and 115lbs.

Paloric stenosis I think that’s how it’s spelled look it up.The stomach and intestine is closing up so formula has nowhere to go but up

Have you tried neosure? It is what they give NICU babies.

Have you tried a more holistic minded pediatrician??

I was told to wake my son up every 2 hours to eat.

Could it be allergy related? Xx

I like Gerber formula,It’s to bad they are not nursed.

Put him on the high calorie diet like say for example 6oz= 3scoops youd do 6oz=3 1/2 to 4 scoops hell gain weight in no time mine was the same way

My daughter was failure to thrive. She threw up constantly, I had to take her to a GI specialist…they did a scan and discovered she had severe acid reflux. They put her on meds and I had to stop breast feeding and put her on this crazy expensive formula for babies with sensitive tummies. It worked, she’s a happy and healthy 7 year old now. My second they tried to say was “failure to thrive” before we even left the hospital because they were trying to force me to breastfeed and I wanted to bottle feed… so they made me come back the day after being discharged to have him weighed again… still said he was failure to thrive and told me to come back again the next day to weigh… I never did. I heard them talking crap about me so I just went home and literally fed him every single hour… at his one month they were surprised he was doing as good as he was

Yes!! The specialists saved his life

My youngest was diagnosed as failure to thrive at 5 months old. She constantly threw up her entire bottle after every feeding. We constantly were switching formulas and trying different medications. After a barium swallow study, she was found to have a weak esophageal muscle that prevented her formula from staying down. We were told that it would strengthen as she got older. So we had to reduce the amounts of her bottles and feed her every 2 hours that she was awake. After a few months, she was completely fine and had started eating like a champ. She ended up being the chubbiest baby with so many rolls.

Been there with my daughter it’s rough

Yes. Mine got a feeding tube at birth. He still has a feeding tube at age 4. He is also on growth hormones. My best advice is find quality childrens hospital and a PEDs that is on your side. My.peds doesn’t deal with any of my sons special needs but gives me any referral I ask for.
