Bicornate Uterus

A few years ago my sister had a miscarriage shortly after finding out she was pregnant. While her doctor performed an ultrasound, they found that she has a bicornate uterus. The doctor had said that while having a bicornate uterus shouldn't effect her fertility, she may be considered high risk should she get pregnant again. Her doctor recommended reaching back out when her and her husband were ready to start trying again to help her with planning and whatnot.

For any women who have a bicornate uterus, what are your experiences if you don’t mind sharing and what advice do you have for my sister?

I have the same 2 healthy pregnancies I just had to have c sections because my babies could not turn they were both breach

bicorniate uterus here! I miscarried first time then 4 healthy pregnancies! Was considered high risk due to having to be put on progesterone the first 3 months till placenta could take over! And had to have c -sections due to babies not able to turn!

I have one. 2 boys one miscarriage in between. Most likely get ready for a C-section though. It’s a wall that grows as your uterus does and my boys couldn’t flip head down. Didn’t find out until after my first was born.

I have the same I have 3 healthy pregnancy and one miscarriage I was not considered high risk and only had one c section

I have a Unicornuate uterus, and have been pregnant twice. Once ended in a miscarriage. The other I was able to carry her up until 2 weeks before her due date, I developed preclampsia and had to have her the next day via c-section. She was also breech. But I am healthy and so is my daughter and she is 8 months old now.

I have one, as well as a uterine septum that went down to my cervix causing two separate sides. My first child was born at 32 weeks due to preterm labor at 31 weeks 3 days. I then struggled with infertility and had most of the septum removed surgically before starting fertility treatments. I then had 1 miscarriage before having my second child who was delivered at 37 weeks by c-section due to being breech. I have since has two more miscarriages.

I have a bicornate uterus and they even find it until my first child was born via c section. I followed that pregnancy 3 years later with a miscarriage at 20 weeks. After that had two more healthy pregnancies. All 3 babies came via c-section and all were born between 3 weeks and 2 months early. Last two pregnancies were considered high risk. After the last one they convinced me it would be to dangerous to have anymore so I didn’t.

I have a bicorniate uterus and I’ve had 2 healthy pregnancies no miscarriages or problems

I have what they called a " slight one " didn’t cause any issues with pregnancy or birth I have 3 children x

Me! But I was able to have my first born naturally and my second one c section. I know it was a lot harder for us to conceive our second one. Took about two years. They also were both born early due to only being able to grow on one side of my uterus. First born weighed five pounds second one weighed three pounds.

I had one. I was told I could never get pregnant and ended up at 38 pregnant. My placenta attached to the septum part of my uterus and at 32 weeks I had alot of pain so I went in and ended up with an emergency c section with a hysterectomy bc I was abrupting.

I miscarried with my first pregnancy, not long after got pregnant with my rainbow baby. I was high risk and did have premature labor but with monitoring and a few hospital stays she came on her due date. A few years later had a ectopic pregnancy. Had my second when my first was 3 days short of turning 10. Again high risk and they actually needed to stop labor twice. But no long hospital stays. She came at 38 weeks. 6 months after she was born I was pregnant with my third. Again high risk and they thought he was coming at 30 weeks but again monitoring and a little bed rest he held on until his due date too, just like my first. All of my babies were natural births. After my first I didn’t think I would be able to have any more. I was never on birth control. But was blessed with 2 more 10 and 11 years later. My smallest was 5lbs 16oz. The other 2 were both almost 8lbs. I did get my tubes tied after the 3rd because my body just couldn’t handle another pregnancy. But everyone is different. Hope all works out for her! :blue_heart::purple_heart:

I do as well. 2 miscarriages but now 2 kids.

I have one with two healthy kids! Pregnancies went well they just told me to take it easy, don’t overdo anything. There is definitely hope & success with having one :yellow_heart::yellow_heart::yellow_heart::yellow_heart::yellow_heart::yellow_heart:

I do, but there are also many different “levels” of a true bicornuate. I did have a miscarriage before my first daughter. I do not believe that was due to my uterus, however. I was told by my first ob, that it would be difficult to even get pregnant. I have never had an issue getting pregnant, and after seeing a specialist, the risk really comes when there is a true bicornuate, and towards the second amd third trimester if there is not enough “room” to grow. The thing I’ve noticed, is extra ultrasounds, and extra care in general, which… Isn’t the worst! Best of luck, and it IS possible to carry and have children with a bicornuate. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a bicornuate uterus. I’ve had two healthy pregnancies and no miscarriages. It wasn’t found until my second pregnancy. I was considered high risk they said only because when the baby gets bigger they may be breech because they don’t have the room to turn depending on the position, but my baby turned and I was able to stop seeing the high risk on and continue with my midwife.

A girl I work with has one ( I had never heard of it honestly ) & she had 3 miscarriages & has 2 children. She was told by her doctor that some women can conceive & carry well whereas others have many fertility & miscarriages issues.

5 losses 2 live births. If they attach in my left they pass between 12-16 weeks due to poor blood flow. I took blood thinners 16w-6w postpartum and progresterone 6-12w

Pardon my ignorance. What is a bicornate uterus?

I have had 8 pregnancies, 7 live and 1 miscarriage. My last pregnancy was twins. Good luck!:four_leaf_clover:

My sister does. She has had 2 miscarriages (1 set of twins), 1 35 weeker, 2 or 3 chemical pregnancies, and a 29 weeker that passed away at 16 days old due to t9 some genetic birth defects & not being strong enough to withstand surgery

I have a bicorniate uterus (I’ve known since age 13) and while I have had a few miscarriages over the years (all early first trimester) I have successfully carried 3 healthy babies to term. I was under high risk observation will all my pregnancies- but my babies were healthy and the extra appointments and scans were well worth it.

I have it so severe that when I was open for my c section she had all the other docs and nurses in looking:woman_facepalming:. Said mine is like a heart except the middle divider almost touches bottom. I have had 2 miscarriages and have 3 boys. First was emergency c section and the rest were booked because there is no way possible they can flip inside me. It’s almost like they are secluded to one side. I was also told it was tilted as well and would never ever carry a child. 3 later I proved them wrong. As long as she has a good doctor monitoring her and the baby everything should be fine :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I have one :frowning: I’ve had several miscarriages & only one live birth, then not able to ever conceive again after my daughter & a ton of problems the past few years now scheduled for a hysterectomy at the end of this month & I’m only 28 :sob::sob: if def is possible to have children with one but it also can cause alot of problems.

I had 4 healthy full term babies.

I’m 37 weeks with healthy pregnancy #2 with a bicornuate uterus.

I have a didelphys uterus & two cervixes, as well. Dealt with infertility, & PCOS. Was told I’d never be able to het pregnant , and if I eu , I wouldn’t carry to term.

I delivered at 34 weeks via emergency c Section , he was in the NICU for close to 3 weeks.

Almost miscarried 4 times. Aside from him being a bit early , he is perfectly healthy.

Was too risky to try for another child , as I was extremely high risk.

Good luck.

My sister in law does. & has 4 healthy kids. She just delivered twins this past August full term.

I also have one. I was followed closely as high risk (I was also age 35/37 for both pregnancies). Two healthy girls. Both born vaginally. First baby was 3 weeks early. Second babe took her sweet time and was actually late.

I have one. I lost a baby at 22 weeks and then had a couple miscarriages. They finally caught it when I had my oldest because it’s hard to tell when you are so far along and realized it was also causing cervical incompetence due to where the baby would sit since there was lack of room. I got cerclages with both of my kids and had to be on meds and bedrest on the older one. The 2nd wad just meds and delivered both at full term via c-section (reasons outside of the bicornuate uterus).

I had 2 high risk one 6 weeks early one scheduled c section at 37 weeks…they recommended I get a tubal litigation after #2. Thats what I did.

I have one & have 2 kids. Both were premature but healthy. I had to have a C-section for my oldest but was able to have my youngest natural.
