Can a doctor refuse to take a childs tonsils out?

If it’s causing the child to have crap sleeping patterns and if the child snores then that is a valid reason. My four year was born with tonsils so large they cut his hair way off almost completely. Fight for your baby.

As long as your child doesn’t have obstructive sleep apnea then he or she should be just fine I have large tonsils and I’m fine I get tonsil stones sometimes but that’s it. Now my daughter had to have hers removed at 2 1/2 because she had obstructive sleep apnea where here tonsils would relax and cover her trachea causing her to gag and choke and not sleep through the night. Be she had signs she couldn’t run and play with out getting winded bad would gasp for air during sleep sometimes and then always was thirsty.

I just got paid $9314 working off my laptop this month. And if you think that’s cool, my divorced friend has twin toddlers and made over $ 13771 her first month. It feels so good making so much money when other people have to work for so much less.

I had to have strep throat 60+ times in one year before they would take it out !

Yes. My ENT pediatrician gave my daughter the options. Her body, her choice. She is a carrier of Strep, so her tonsils chronically flare.

Why would you want to push surgery that isn’t medically necessary if he isn’t sick and they don’t bother him?

Yes. But it isnt necessarily the doctor. But insurance is really the reason these days. Our ENT wouldnt take my oldest’s out unles she had 5 episodes of treated tonsillitis or bronchitis in a year’s time bc most insurance plans wont pay for it unless that happens or a significant event or they are infected.

I know my EnT said once that you have to get sick 5x in a season before they remove them or having other troubles like sleep apnea.
Lots of adults are living perfectly fine with bigger tonsils.
If it’s causing real issues then keep searching for a better doctor and fight for it !

I mean… a doctor isn’t gonna just preform any surgery just cause a patient asks them too…You think a doctor would take out someone’s kidney just cause they said it hurt? No…

My daughter has had big tonsils up until about 11 (she’s 14 now) ENT said he wouldn’t remove them unless she got strep throat 5 or more times a year because they serve a purpose.Shes 14 now and they have shrunk a lot which they said could happen as she grew.

Request a sleep study!!! That will give evidence if it’s causing babe to stop breathing at night. That’s how my oldest was able to get his removed. He failed his sleep study and I was just like, “I told you so. Now help get these monsters out of my baby.”

Yes. Absolutely. A physician will not expose a child to the risks of a surgery that has no benefits. This is best practice.

My daughters doctor did. And when she did I demanded to see a specialist. The specialist ended up taking them out because they were a 3 on a scale of 1-4. She was never sick either.

Yes they can. Find a different doctor.

I know I had lots of problems with my tonsils and they didn’t take them out until I was 13. I was sick literally all the time before they took them out. They even had to take them out while they were still invected. Drs know best. Why fix something that’s not broken?

I had strep every year all the way until I was 16, I had strep 15 times in one year and my pediatrician still refused to take mine out. I’m 24 now, still have 'em :woman_shrugging:t2:

Yes they can and they will. They have learned that the tonsils are actually your first defense for virus. When you breathe that pathogen in it triggers your immune system. And really you don’t want to put your child though that unless it’s needed. It takes 2 weeks to heal and days 5-7 are the worst. Your child can also get very dehydrated and end up back in the hospital. It isn’t worth the risk at all. I personally have had to see my kids though multiple surgeries.

Why are you pressing for an unnecessary and potentially dangerous surgery??
Tonsils and adenoids are your body’s first line of defense

My nephew had strep throat I’ m not sure how many times I had mine out when I was young child

Your tonsils help you fight against germs and infections. They shouldn’t be removed unless absolutely necessary

When I got my tonsils out it was because I was getting strep back to back to back. They usually won’t take them out unless they are continuously getting sick. Just because they are big isn’t a good enough reason. All our body parts have a function that’s why we are born with them.

My daughter doesn’t get sick often. But she snores so loud and even stops breathing in her sleep bc of it. I’ve pushed and pushed and pushed and only recently am I being listened to. It took over 2yrs of me calling complaining making appointments bc someone is going to listen! Keep advocating for your child! It can be dangerous to “grow into” them

A family member had theirs taken out and they now get sick a lot more often. That’s probably what they’re trying to prevent.

If they aren’t causing Illness there’s no medical reason.
Having tonsils out is very very painful, especially the older the child is and a lot of complications can come with it .

Our tonsils are actually part of our immune system. They do have a purpose. With them your child is less likely to have allergic reactions respiratory infections and diseases later on in life

Yes they can refuse because it’s an unnecessary surgery & can be a harmful one. I asked about tonsil stones I get once & dr recommended I do not remove them tonsils because of it. Complicated surgery as an adult too.

Most docs won’t perform a tonsillectomy unless child has multiple repeat episodes of severe strep. My doc pulled mine after my 4th round of strep in a year, but then again my younger sister in law has strep 5-6 times a year and has for 4 years straight and her doc still refuses to remove hers

My son at the age of three the dr recommend is tonsils to be removed because they where big and his Atnoids out due to snoring

My daughter had enlarged tonsils and were removed when she was 28 months old. My grand daughter was 2y/o with enlarged tonsils and were removed due to her stop breathing in her sleep. Good Luck!

Have a sleep study done. Validation for insurance to remove them.

Um… Seriously they aren’t bc they are helping him fight sickness. If you take them out you will have a sick child.

What is NOT normal is for a mom to want her child’s tonsils removed for no medical reason.

They didn’t take my tonsils out until I finally started getting sick and they’d swell almost completely shut. They waited until very last minute. So yea I’d there’s nothing wrong they won’t.

Does he sleep badly? Sometimes it can cause Obstructive sleep apnea

Yeah, it’s not necessary to remove them especially if the are not causing problems. There are part of our immune response. Gone are the days where they are removed after a couple bouts of strep.

Yes he can refuse to do it if he considered is not necessary. Ask another doctor

They are larger when we’re children and tend to shrink with age. They don’t usually take them out unless they’re constantly getting sick and while I never had mine out I know multiple people that did and majority said it the healing process can be awful. One friend didn’t get hers taken out til high school and said even swallowing ice cream or jello or pudding etc felt like swallowing glass for a week. I wouldn’t put your kid through that unless they absolutely need it

Yes, unfortunately! My daughter’s were huge when she was little and contributed to her snoring bad! But her Pediatrician kept saying she would outgrow it. Well, she ended up having to have them removed at age 22!:woman_facepalming:

When I was younger the dr refused because “ I might want to be an astronaught one day and I might need all my organs” we got a new dr

Take your child to an Otolarngologist or ENT doc

Do they snore? Go to an ENT and have a sleep study done. My daughter was not sick but her tonsils were always swollen. Ent discovered obstructive apnea. Tonsils were blocking her airway when she slept. Removed them when she was 6.

I would think it was normal for them
To take them out if they are like that. My daughter was having issues too and hers were just huge compared to her siblings and when they would swell she would have trouble swallowing and breathing and I think that is the must do signs and symptoms. If you say that your child is having problems breathing or swallowing because of it then it’s automatically gonna be take them out. That’s what my daughters surgeon said

Sleep study done. Then if nothing is wrong no they shouldn’t. Lol

Yes drs can refuse if it’s not causing any problems for child.

The older you are the harder the surgery if they don’t cause pain or impair their sleep id leave them alone why have unnecessary surgery

If they are not causing him issues, then it’s not worth the risk and the pain of surgery.

Demand a sleep apnea test! Even if they’re not always sick, they’re most likely interfering with their sleep, which is so important for developing brains, and so dangerous anyway. Only parents that have been through this, know what it’s like. Advocate for your child

Why in the hell would you subject your child to an unnecessary surgery? Of course any legit doctor would refuse. Everyone’s tonsils are big. Unless there’s a problem, why are you even concerned?

My kid has enlarged tonsils, tonsil stones, and other issues with his, and OHP refuses to let us get them removed. 3 specialists and his doctor has put in requests for 3 years and they still deny it because they don’t feel it’s necessary. If they weren’t causing him any issues medically I honestly wouldn’t worry about it.

Drs will not remove them unless they have Strept throat more than 3 times in one year. My granddaughters pediatrician told us that . They removed her adnoids when they put tubes in her ears at 2. But absolutely would not remove the tonsils. She is 19 now and still begs to get them out .

Why do you want your child to have surgery for no reason. If the tonsils aren’t causing any issues then why do you want to put your child though surgery? It’s not normal for a parent to want something like this so I guess that’s why a doctor said no. Surgery isn’t just done because you want it done it don’t work that way🤷‍♀️

Had my tonsils removed at 7yrs and suffered no end of strep throats for years (still do). I really regret my parents allowing them to be removed, we have all our ‘bits’ for a reason (except the appendix)

My daughters both have regular tonsillitis approx 3 times a year since they were small and have both been hospitalised with it but there’s been no word of being referred to ENT or them taking them out. The last time my eldest had tonsillitis I spoke with GP as she was on her 2nd course of antibiotics in 6 weeks and they said they would refer her if she needed more courses of antibiotics in the next few months as she just doesn’t respond to them anymore and the side effects of both the tonsillitis and antibiotics are horrible, but she’s been having bouts of tonsillitis for about 15 years. .

Doctors, like everyone else, are in business to make money. There may be more to his decision than what is apparent. Regardless, the law will always support the Doctor’s decision, 'cause everyone knows, ‘the doctor knows best’.

Most Doctors don’t do any surgery. Unless it’s skin cancer. What would you do if you found a Doctor that did that and damaged the child for life.

I’m very skeptical when it comes to investing in stuffs online. But just because I seriously needed help financially and seeing that I literally had nothing to lose, I had to take the bold step to invest in bitcoin with Rochelle Shannon. That turned out to be the best financial decision I’ve ever made. Today I’m doing quite alright financially.

They are actually good to have. They are put there to protect you from viruses. Doctors won’t take them out just because anymore

Unless they deem it medically necessary, they won’t.
It’s an elective surgery, and if they’re not bothering your child, why put them through a surgery?

if they’re causing any issues they won’t remove them just because they’re “big” and there’s no reason you should put your child through undue stress and pain like that.

The only other thing about large tonsils that could be a reason to get them removed is sleep apnea. Get a sleep study to double check for that. If not, tbh, they’re really important for a healthy immune system. So if there’s nothing wrong, and they aren’t bothering your child, and a sleep study says they don’t have sleep apnea, just leave them.
