My Dr had me give my son water at 3 months. Not alot just a few sips 3x a day to help him go.
You won’t be dumping it down his throat. :woman_facepalming:

Babies from birth can be given cooled boiled water to help ease wind. Water is encouraged but it does not take the place of milk they still need Breast or formula.

My daughter was drinking water at 4 months for constipation. She’s 33 now and still kicking.

I believe I would listen to the docter.

I’m so old … lol. When our boys were babies, we gave them arrow root cookies to suck on when they were constipated. By 5 months old, they were eating “cereal” bottles … baby cereal mixed with formula … and they were eating a little bit of table foods like mashed potatoes or applesauce. They were also drinking juices. Of course, nowadays, they tell you different, so I don’t know what to tell new moms … other than check with your pediatrician.

If constipated definitely try water unless u want to try watered down apple juice or prune purées

Only give the baby a small amount of water. And remember the Dr. Went to school. Google didn’t go to school and could have been written by anyone

Lol I gave water to all of my children from a very young age (between bottles, it wasn’t a substitute) for many reasons. My kids are all thriving and healthy.

My boy has poop problems even when he was two months old.baby pro biotics and distilled water and sugar.half cup boiled water and 1/8 teaspoon sugar.once cooled down. 1 too 2 teaspoons every four hours

yes. they can have water.
they say not to, because the water can lower the nutrients that the babies are given.
so as long as you’re not solely feeding him watery. you’re fine

Wow! Doctors are wrong all the time guys!! Still saying to put cereal in milks. Dont blame her for googling it as well!!if your baby is eatting solid foods water is ok! I dont think baby will be downing bottle after bottle. But a little bit here and there doesnt hurt!

No. Once baby is 6 months they can have a max of 2 oz a day. After they turn one they can have unlimited water.

This is to avoid wAter intoxication

When my children were babies, our pediatrician advised me to give them cooled boiled water, and Karo syrup. It worked, but I also gave them gerber apple juice

An ounce or so a day isn’t gonna hurt baby

boil the water let it cool then give to baby make sure it is cool I used to fix it that way for my babys years ago

Babies can have filtered water especially for babies. It’s good for them. If your breastfeeding then baby probably doesn’t need as much.

Give the baby water! A dr has told you to definitely listen I gave all my babies water from 4 months old little sips all day.

New borns should not have too much water. 5 months, a little water won’t hurt.
I use kyro syrup for constipation. Some say don’t do that, :woman_shrugging:
I also trust my doctor.

No water before 6 months as it can kill them and only 1 to 2 ounces of water after 6 months til 12 months

At 5 months I’d do 1 or 2 oz. My son has gotten 4-8 oz of water since 6 months

I’ve had 6 kids and I’ve give them all bits of water for constipation I give my granddaughter it as well and they have all been fine x

Just a little won’t hurt…supervised of course. My children are 19 and 13…they did just fine.

I would def listen to the person with a degree not a online search engine

Just tiny sips. I untroduced it to mine right before 6 months and was totally fine… he’s almost 8 mo and has had a stomach virus so I’m glad he’s used to water intake or he would be dehydrated

Yes or pear juice will help. But you really didn’t know this!? Lol

Do what your Dr says

I would not. No water under 6 months

Could just add some prune juice to formula. Helped both of mine. Can start watered down juice…

The world has really changed to me. Don’t you all mix formula with water or water down juice for baby to drink. Girl google may speak on everything but it don’t know everything. What did you take him to the doctor for if you were going to listen to google?

As long as the water isn’t replacing milk … I’d say around 2 ounces of water a day starting at 5 months. It’s perfectly fine! I hate when they say absolutely no water till 1 years old… I did that with my son and he still hates water. I did kyrp syrup with him. My second born I did water, doctor recommended. She’s healthy as can be and loves her water!

If baby is constipated…boiled water with a little bit of sugar…loosens up baby’s bowels…I got 4 kids worked like a charm with everyone of them

My pediatrician said they can have as many ounces of water a day as they are months. So 5 oz for your little.

Those of you actually giving advice on how much water and if they can or can’t have it is the problem. If you dont know this child or it’s medical history you have no business giving any advice other than to listen to her pediatrician.

Not before 6 months old

Believe Google. That doctor doesn’t know your baby like Google does.

No water. They don’t need it. Water can harm babies by itself. Google is the correct one here

Give your baby a few bites of the baby prunes or a few sips of water.
There’s water in with the formula
One or two ounces of water at the most won’t hurt ur baby at all. My baby is pretty much Seven months old and for the past two months he’s been trying to hold his bottle so in between feedings when he’s already full I’ll let him play with about 2 ounces of water just so he can get the feel of holding and drinking out of the bottle. I did this with all three of my kids

Water intoxication is a real thing especially for babies.

Go with your doctor babies have to have water.

Because your dr is recommending it because of constipation, yes. Typically you shouldn’t before 6 months but at 5 months for constipation, it’s perfectly safe.

Dr is right…prune juice

Yes, I give my granddaughter water. I have had her since birth, her pediatrician directed me to give her water at 2 months for constipation. Also, when my 2 children were born they gave water in the hospital.

Google is correct this time.
If your baby is constipated, you can give him diluted prune juice, diluted pear juice or diluted apple juice.

Personally, prune juice is the way to go if you want fast results. Taste nasty af but it works.

Why don’t you question your doctor, instead of untrained people

Gripe water is for constipation

I’d trust my child’s life in my doctors’ hands before I would trust Google.

Come on…listen to your doc n dont put your child health to goggle

You can also add a tiny bit of dark Karo syrup. Worked every time.

Too much water for babies can literally kill them. Make them very sick. So it’s completely normal for OP to be questioning this

Both of mine had water way before they were 1. They used to have it when they started eating 4 months for my eldest (he was a big lad) and 6months for my youngest. Never done them any harm or me and my 5 siblings, as long as it’s cooled boiled water. It’s what ya make bottles with.

So Google scared you you don’t believe your doctor and now you’re going on this to ask a bunch of people their opinions? I mean I know it’s perfectly safe you can actually dilute some apple juice or prune juice and that would help too but whatever you want to do. I would take my doctor’s advice over a bunch of people on the internet.

Why is a five month old constipated? Ask Google that…

Next time your baby is sick. Take your child to Google.:rofl::rofl: Give your child water…but just a little at a time. And still do normal feedings. You wouldn’t believe how many women just gave water.

So sad. We can’t always trust our pediatricians

Yes babies can have water just not a lote. Dont give them 4 or 5 onces because then they wont want to eat but a half and once to an once wont hurt them. I gave both my kids water as babies and they really only drink water now that they are bigger

I’m shocked at how many people are saying Google is right :see_no_evil: water in LARGE quantities can be dangerous, not a small amount to ease constipation. I’m sure a doctor that has studied medicine for over a decade knows that but sure, trust the internet
If you are seriously wondering if your doctor is giving you bad info go get a second opinion from another doctor, not Facebook medical specialists.

Follow you doctors recommendations. In normal circumstances yes giving water is not a recommended thing to do due to the issues it may lead to, however if baby is constipated, baby might be needing that extra fluid temporarily to help soften the stool.

Is Google a doctor???

I gave my son water but I always gave him the purified distilled drinking water. And if that didn’t work I did but a tiny bit of dark kayro syrup in his milk bottle and it worked.

If he is on formula switch to organic sensitive because it has probiotics and prebiotics which will help relieve his constipation

By 4 months old my son would have 1 oz apple juice 3 oz water when needed to help keep things normal, also my sons dr said bottle fed baby’s can go a week without going number 2 and it be “normal”, their little bodies are still adjusting. Good luck.

Your doctor!!!

Id give an ounce of pear juice to an ounce of water. Every since my son was 6 months he had constipation issues. Pear juice was the only thing that helped him

Umm listen to your doctor and stay off Google. My daughter was always so gassy I would give her peppermint water when she was less then 4 months old and she is 16 and fine and loves water. Did the same with my 10 yr old who is also fine.

If he is breastfed then drink more water and take the maxi milk supplement from mountain meadow herbs and then you will produce more milk thus more fluids which will also relieve his constipation.

Do you mix formula with water? Nursery water, not tap water!

It’s normal for babies that age to get constipated. I wouldn’t wanna give my baby water either.

I only have water for wind warmed up with a bit of water.
For constipation I use to put a bit of brown sugar in there milk

When my daughter was constipated I gave her an extremely small amount of brown sugar and warm water in a bottle…my mum did the same with me and all my siblings when we were babies… Google isn’t medical,if you have concerns talk to your doctor but as you said your doctor has said it’s ok…

My kids doctor always recommended a little water with a Karo syrup for constipated kiddos

Why is everyone saying no tap water?
My daughter was strictly on ready to feed and they supplemented her with fluoride because she wasn’t using powdered formula (with tap water).

I had to give her water around the same age for the same reason.

Water is only dangerous to a baby if you don’t feed them formula too. Smh if you were going to Google it then don’t waste the doctors time by making an appt.

my ped told me to give my daughter water after 6 months. she’s about to be 8 months & i still haven’t because i also know it can get into their lungs. do what you think is best mama

If a baby is still on strictly milk/formula, the water can deplete the sodium from their system and poison them. Do not give infants water!

Okay, how much water did the Dr suggest?

It really depends on how old your Dr is. A lot of older doctors like to stick to what they’ve always done instead of growing with the science like they swore to do :unamused:
