Can you get pregnant after a vasectomy?

Fan Question

So Iā€™m 26 and Iā€™m going to have my second son in June my first just turned 2. I want to get my tubes tied but for some reason I super scared. I donā€™t know if itā€™s the fact of knowing itā€™s permanent. We do t want anymore kids but itā€™s really scary thinking of it. My husband said he would go have his stuff cut. But Iā€™m worried we might get pregnant just with his done. My question is has any one else got pregnant with their husbands having a vasectomy. ? Is it %100 or no. Thank you in advance

Nothing is 100% and you can have tubals reversed.

My boyfriend had a vasectomy, and I havenā€™t gotten pregnant. I trust it.

Nothing is 100% except abstaining from sexā€¦i too know a few vasectomy babies

Tubes can become untied. They can grow back if removed. Vasectomy can become undone. All birth control is not 100%. The only 2 things that are 100% is either not having sex or getting a hysterectomy

I just had my tubes taken out on Friday. I could have had them tied but my Dr said alot of cancers can form in the tubes and since insurance covered it all the same it was an extra preventative step. Pain after as long as you keep up on your meds they give you isnā€™t bad at all. I was back to work yesterday (have a desk job) and have very little pain

I had my tubes tied and then got pregnant with baby #5. If you truly donā€™t want anymore, get your tubes removed. That is 100%

I didnā€™t think they performed this at 26. My friend wanted it and had 4 children and she still was told no. I suppose different states and different doctors have their own policies.

I got pregnant with my third after my husband had a vesectomy after our second child but he never went back to the follow up appointment to confirm he was indeed sterileā€¦your suppose to use back up birth control for at least 3months or 30 ejaculations. Along w Dr confirmationā€¦but also we wanted a third child so it didnā€™t matter at that point but we knew for sure we weā€™re done after 3  ā€¦as far as the procedureā€¦he was a lil swollen for a day or two then perfectly fine

Let him get fixed, itā€™s safer and it worked for me and my mom, they recover faster and there is no chance of something like a tubal pregnancy happening but wait till he has his follow up to make sure he doesnā€™t have any swimmers left.

My husband had a vasectomy almost a year ago.

The urologist did twice as much length cut on his vas deferens, she put titanium clips on each end & the vas deferens have been cauterized.

The urologist said the biggest issue with people getting pregnant after the vasectomy is they donā€™t ejaculate enough and go to the second appointment with their sperm sample to make sure there are no survivors left.

We are a one & done family, 1 child (2.5 years old at the time of his surgery) and my husband was 28 years old, I was 26 and we had just celebrated 12 years together & 8 years married when he had it done.

He said he would much rather be snipped than have me get fixed. Less recovery time and less chance for complications on his end? My best friends friend died because of a botched tubal surgery, she bled out and the ER didnā€™t take her concerns seriously she died the following day. So he opted for the vasectomy. Years ago he agreed to it before that incident even happened, it just reassured his decision.

He was down for a week but he didnā€™t take any pain medicine the whole time just iced his balls regularly

Vasectomies tend to be the best. Easier healing. As long as he does what heā€™s told to do and gets his sperm checked you should be good. Id use birthcontrol anyways to regulate cycles. Have him see a urologist. (Former urology MA)

I had my tubes cut, tied and burnt when I was 25,iam now almost 71 and I never got pregnant after my surgery.I had a Daughter and a Son before I had my surgery,.my children are both grown with many Grand children

My daughterā€™s father got his done after her she now has a 2yr old sister

Vasectomies can naturally reverse themselves over time. Usually after5-7 years from what Iā€™ve read.

My husband had a vasectomy 2 weeks after our 3rd and that was 9 years ago, and so far so good. He followed the doctors orders as we both knew we were 100% sure we were done having kids.

Let him girl, we go through so much already

Nothing is 100% Iā€™d still get on birth control or something just in case.

IF you are sure, when you give birth would be a good time to get yourself done. If you are NOT sure donā€™t do it - - Maybe something like a Morena or other IUD / would give you time to make sure you are 100% on this.

They normally do a 3 month follow up and test it and thats when they tell you if it was successful. Then he has to go back in a year to have it checked again bc there is a small chance the tube that carries the sperm can grow back. But it is normally very successful

I can tell you that a vasectomy is NORMALLY 100% safe as long as #1 your husband goes back for a sperm check when his follow up is scheduled #2 Ask the doctor to not only cut the tube but to cauterize it as well. My husband and his best friend had theirs done during the same time frame ā€¦my husband followed his doctors advice and used a second form of birth control until the doctor said he was all clear. His best friend did not and a stray sperm got his best friendā€™s wife pregnant!! The doctor said ā€œI Told you to use a secondary form until I rechecked you!!ā€

Nothing is 100% ā€¦ man have had theirs done and if it dont take yes you can still get pgā€¦ same with getting your tubes tied ā€¦ if your that worried stay on birth control

Both of youā€™s should get it fixed. You are both responsible . Your tubes can be reversed as long as they are only cut and tied.

I know itā€™s your decision but you are really young to make a permanent decision. There are so many things that could change in your life like a divorce, God forbid but the death of a child. So if your husband definitely doesnā€™t want more children ever, have him get it Done. Get the arm implant it prevents pregnancy for 3 to 5 years.

Getting them tied messed me up something decent. Periods were wack and heavy. Wish I never woulda done it. Just go with birth control

Iā€™ve heard of vasectomy naturally reversing over time but Iā€™m not certain on that. I would talk to ur obgyn about getting iud (birth control) at ur 6 week pp check up after baby.
I use the paragaurd which is copper and no hormones had it for over a year and itā€™s working so far.
Iā€™d say get one for u just in case his reverses over time or something. Double protection so u can relax and not worry about getting pregnant.

My ex-husband had his done after our third, sheā€™s now almost 21 and heā€™s yet to have anymore children. I on the other hand had another daughter and had a partial hysterectomy after due to cervical cancer. I think youā€™re right, itā€™s scary because it seems so permanent. The what ifs take over. Just pray about it and research every aspect of it so youā€™re informed either way.

Im 23, I just had my 2nd baby and got my tubes tied. I also had that feeling before had, just he fact that its soooo permanent. Now itā€™s done I dont think about it and itā€™s nice to not have to worry if I might accidentally get pregnant as my husband and I only wanted two. Scary yes but itā€™s so worth it!

Nothing is 100% except for abstinence or hysterectomy. I had my tubes tied after my 3rd baby and there is a small risk of getting pregnantā€¦but itā€™s been 11 years and no more oopsies.
