Can you get pregnant with the IUD?

In need of advice or personal stories.

I recently got told by an ultrasound technician that I was pregnant. I went to see the ultrasound technician because the strings for my IUD were not visible when I went for my check up for it. I was completely shocked because I had an IUD!! He immediately called my doctor and she made time to see me that day. She told me that they could not remove the IUD without terminating the baby. And if I decided to go forward with the pregnancy my IUD would have to stay in place.

I guess my question is are there any people out there who have had an IUD inside them who have had successful healthy labours and babies?

My spouse and I’s first born just turned one years old and I had to have him via emergency c-section. Recovery for me was like 3 months and it was terrible. I’m terrified to have to go through labour again. But I also don’t want to make any decisions yet if theres a chance that the baby could be strong and healthy…

Stories or advice would be much appreciated!!

Both outcomes are possible, but I would recommend discussing what is best for YOU and your baby/body, with your OB. Just because so and so had it good, doesn’t mean it’s the best or right option for you.

I got pregnant with the IUD. My doctor went to check me and see where it was positioned. When she went in the baby had already halfway pushed it out. She was able to pull it out the rest of the way with her fingers. I didn’t even bleed when she did it. Just cramped a little. So there is a possibility that as time passes the baby could push it out. I’ve heard of people having a perfectly healthy pregnancy with one in the whole time. Your doctor just may do more exams on u and maybe more ultrsounds to keep an eye on it

Closer to time for you to deliver, as your cervix dilate, it’ll be easily removed for a safe and healthy delivery.

I got pregnant with an IUD last year. My doctor wanted to take it out ASAP, and said there was a chance I could miscarry. He got the IUD out, and I had a little bleeding throughout the first half of my pregnancy, but my son is almost 5 months old now.

Getting pregnant so soon after your first c section you will have to have another c section. It takes a long time for those muscles and nerves in your abdomen to really, fully heal. The plus side is this time it will be scheduled and you will know what to expect with the c section. Just remember that after any abdominal surgery walking around is the best way to recover.

I had the Mirena IUD and found out at 4 months that I was pregnant. They had to remove the IUD because it was embedded into my uterine wall and causing infection and lots of pain. I miscarried one girl and delivered the other one 5 months later healthy as can be. If they can deliver a baby with no complications and have it in so be it but if it causes you or the baby issues have it taken out. Good luck mama.

I went into urgent care for significant pain. Turns out I was pregnant with my IUD, and the IUD was super low, into my cervix. They actually removed the IUD because of where it was located. I was scared I’d miscarry. And even had period like bleeding for a few hours at 7-8 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound showed a hematoma. I went on to have a successful pregnancy and delivery preterm at 35 weeks when my water broke.

They may be leaving your IUD because of where it’s located. If you’re uncomfortable with the medical advice given, I’d seek a second opinion.

I’m surprised that a doctor inserted an IUD so soon after giving birth via c-section if your baby just turned 1. Have they located the IUD? I’ve heard of numerous women having them migrate up into their abdomen, wrapped around fallopian tubes etc causing huge complications. I’ve had 3 emergency c-sections and each one was alittle easier to recover from as I knew what to expect and what to do. I hope all goes well with your pregnancy.

I would say don’t risk it due to you having a complicated first birth, it’s an awful decision to be honest I don’t think I would be able to make it.

Many women have carried successful pregnancies with an IUD still in place. If you had an emergency c-section the first time, they will let you choose to have one this time.

Congrats (if that’s in place!!!)

It happened to me TWICE lol, don’t ask me why I got it again after the 1st time and trust me I’m not trying for the 3rd time lol. Both times healthy baby and momma. IUD’s were never found in/on/around the babies but it is possible… Good luck mommy!!

Yep, totally possible. Not me, but I knew someone who had it happen to her. She had a healthy, full term baby, with it in place. Came out shortly after birth of course.

On the IUD, I’m not sure. But CSections take less time to heal with each one you have. At least that’s how it was for me. The first time I was bedridden and useless forever, the second time I was up and going and dressed the next day.

I would get a second opinion.

following I have my taken out tomorrow 4 weeks 5 day pregnant

My daughter got pregnant when she had the Merina (which releases hormones) in and had a successful pregnancy. It actually migrated into the uterus. The placenta grew around it. It caused absolutely no problems.
Second c-seconds are generally easier than the first. You could have it scheduled and not even have to go through labor ( if that’s what you prefer).

I have an 8 yr old who I had iud mirena in place ! He’s ADHD autistic but completely healthy boy otherwise!

U don’t have to have anothet c section. And I would get a second opinion cuz u should be able to get it taken out

I have heard stories of babies being born and being just fine. I personally haven’t ever had the IUD so I cant say that I have any experience but I’ve heard of it .

delivered my son and the IUD at the same time. All good. son is 40.

No advise but you could try for a vbac. I did and it was so much better.

I got pregnant with my second child when I had an IUD. My gynecologist got me right in and examined me and found that the pregnancy was in the uterus and not in the tube, where it can sometimes happen when you have an IUD, so the doctor removed mine right in the office and my pregnancy went on. I had my second child via csection.
