Is it possible to get pregnant when you’re not ovulating? So my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. However, my period came down the next day; this occurred in April. My period normally comes down every 1st of the Month. It’s day seven now without any signs of it. Should I be worried, or is this just a change in the cycle?

It is not possible to get pregnant without ovulating. No egg, no baby. However, it is possible to ovulate irregularly. Sperm can live up to 5 days in the uterus. So if an egg is released while the sperm are present, it is possible.

Days 1-5: Menses phase – bleeding occurs
Days 6-14: Follicular phase – an egg matures in the ovarian follicle, and the uterine lining prepares to receive a fertilized egg (embryo)

I can say this yes you can. We had sex like 4 or 5 days before I ovulated and I am now 20 weeks pregnant so yes it can happen. Like someone said the sperm can last up to 5 days in the uterus. Also if I am remembering correctly the egg can survive for up to two or three days after ovulating. So it is very possible that you are pregnant. Take a test and see for sure.

This question is worded in a confusing way, but I’ll do my best to answer it.
If you have not ovulated and can confirm that with LH strips or by temping, than no you have not ovulated and can’t be pregnant. If you haven’t done those two things, are you typically a person who has physical signs of ovulation - i.e. cramping on one side, egg white discharge, etc? If you had not experienced those things at the time of unprotected sex than you MAY not pregnant. If you hadn’t tested your LH or don’t experience physical signs, then it is completely plausible and you should consider taking a pregnancy test.
A person typically ovulates 2 weeks before their period, however this is not the case for everyone. Some people ovulate days after their periods end or days before their period is due, this is why there is such a wide range of when a person with get a positive pregnancy test. Some people don’t get positives until they miss their period an entire week (because they ovulate late). An egg is able to survive 24-48 hours and sperm up to 5 days.
So unless you can confirm that you hadn’t ovulated, it’s possible to be pregnant because you have unprotected sex. Now the fact that you bled the following day makes it slightly less plausible, but doesn’t mean you can’t be because they’re are still people bleed when they’re pregnant, it’s just not common. The only way to know for sure is to take a pregnancy test or blood test.

No. But the thing is, unless you were testing for ovulation before having sex, there is no way to guarantee that you were not ovulating.

You could have ovulated early, or late. You wouldn’t know if you weren’t testing/tracking it carefully.
Umm, I got pregnant with 2 of my kids 3 days before I started my period, and yes, you’ll have that period. I have 3 kids. My doctor says 5 days before through 5 days after are the days to get pregnant
I ovulate on day 4/5 of my cycle so if that was me this yes i could get pregnant (i only bleed for 2 days sadly)
I was told I couldn’t get pregnant after my daughter cause i don’t ovulate and 3 years later had my son. Doctor ask me how I got pregnant

Doc says my date of conception was Oct 31 I started my period on the 28th that month we had sex a couple days before I started so it’s possible
People saying it’s possible need to go back to school. If you haven’t ovulated then you cannot physically get pregnant. (Excluding other methods like IVF ect that’s different)
Ovulation = egg is produced. No ovulation = no egg.
If you are pregnant it means you ovulated. You can ovulate at irregular time throughout your cycle so its not always easy to tell unless you are taking ovulation tests.

Sperm can stay alive up there for at least 7 days so it depends on the Woman. Anytime you have unprotected sex and arent wanting a baby you should be worried.

No you cannot get pregnant without ovulating. Without ovulation there’s no egg to fertilize. Eggs don’t live for an extended period of time once ovulation has occurred unless they are fertilized. It’s not uncommon for periods to be late, you’re not a machine. Unless you’re more than a month late, I wouldn’t even consider it.
If you CAN’T ovulate, no, you’re fine.
If you do ovulate but weren’t, there is still a chance of falling pregnant though it is less likely than if you were about to or currently ovulating.
Ovulation is typically two weeks before your expected menstruation, however, it doesn’t necessarily occur at that time either.

A fertile woman (one who does ovulate) never has a zero percent chance of conception during heterosexual intercourse.
A woman who can’t ovulate is infertile.

You cannot get pregnant without ovulation because that’s literally the egg becoming ripe & being released. But you can ovulate at an unexpected time & not know it. Our body doesn’t always follow the rhythm we expect.

First of all how do you know you weren’t ovulating? There is absolutely no way to know whether you ovulated early or late without a series of medical test that can confirm this so you very well could have ovulated and gotten pregnant. Ik bc I have a baby boy from this exactly. You should always be practicing safe sex if you’re not ready to be a parent bc again your ovulation prediction is only if you’re ovulating on a “textbook” schedule and most women do not

Buy a pregnancy test if worried, or call your obgyn, if dont have one talk to your primary care doctor, i was pregnant, found out at 22 weeks with no symptoms and had my period the whole time, every one is different, better to talk to your doctor.

My best friend conceived twins while on her period. Anything is possible. Take a test. If it’s negative, there are several other things that can throw your cycle off (hormones, stress, diet, etc.)

You need to ovulate to get pregnant but you can ovulate at strange times in a given month. I was taking temperature to determine ovulation and got pregnant with my younger daughter in a month that according to temperature readings I didn’t ovulate. Like others have said get a pregnancy test to find out because there are many reasons a period doesn’t come when expected

So no you cannot. You have to ovulate but you can ovulate any time during the cycle including during menses.
Just for the record,
Periods can be irregular for all kinds of reasons including stress. I had one that was 19 days late, and better believe I was sweating it, and it was still a no. If it’s a big worry though, Of course you know already to use that protection!
Never say is not possible my 3rd daughter was conceived and I was on birth control!! Every women’s body is diferent therefor to me it’s not impossible!!

My fiancé and I have had sex only a handful of times within the last month. My period was 6 days late a couple of months ago, so this month when it was late, I didn’t think much about it. I just randomly took a test just to see, and it was positive. I’m 4.5 weeks, and if my period wasn’t always right on time, I would have never known and I would have assumed I was getting sick, and just not feeling well.

Yes. You might think that you’re not ovulating but you could be without knowing it. I had PCOS and only had a period 3 or 4 times a year but I have 3 children (33,28and 26) See the age difference? I never used protection. I didn’t know I was pregnant until I was 4 months along with all of my children. You should really go see your dr

Let me break it down for you people that are saying everyone is different, and every situation is different. (I feel like I have some expertise in this department considering my 14 combined years of infertility, and trying to get pregnant)
A typical uterus has a 28-day cycle. The day that you start bleeding, is day one, no other days after that matter, until you get to day 14 (keeping in mind this is for a 28-day cycle. If you have a 32-day cycle, you would adjust your numbers accordingly) on day 14, your ovary would release an egg, called ovulation. The three or so days before the egg is released, And the two to three days after, is your fertile window. Once the egg is out of the fallopian tubes, it is less likely that you will fall pregnant. On day 29, you should start bleeding again, which means that the day before, day 28, was the end of that cycle, and this day is the beginning of a new cycle. The presence of an ovum is required for pregnancy. Sperm can live in your body, around 7 days, which is why they say to have sex every other day, if you are trying to get pregnant. Ideally, your luteal phase,(the time between ovulation, and the next cycle) will be 14 days.
You most certainly can get pregnant while you’re still bleeding, if you ovulate early. If you ovulate too close to your next cycle, it’s unlikely that it will happen, or be a healthy embryo. That would make your luteal phase too short.
Sometimes, implantation bleeding occurs, which is normally spotting, to a light days worth of blood.
If your period is normal, it will come every 28 to 32 days. It will not drop on a certain day of the month, every month. Your uterus doesn’t know what day it is.
There are a few ways to determine whether or not you have ovulated, or are ovulating. Cervical position, cervical mucus, ovulation test strips, taking your basal body temperature everyday…
But no, a sperm alone cannot make a baby. The sperm and the ovum are both required to be present in the fallopian tube to create a life.

We all don’t know theday to day activities, if there was a sudden weight gain or loss, dietary changes, other sicknesses, there are so many things that can cause a change in our hormonal balance. To be sure see your Doctor or take a test, it could be that OP is pregnant or it could be so much other things that delayed the period.

I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about this anymore! I’m 66 …but when younger and married…always worrying and counting days. Couldn’t take birth control, caused blood clots.

…Not technically…other than learning that in health and bio class as a teen, Google is a good help for these types of questions…if you are trying to get pregnant there are tests you can buy over the counter to see when you ovulate so good luck, and if you’re not trying to get pregnant, congratulations.
I hadn’t had a period since November last year and was defiantly not prego and attributed it to stress but in February I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant after no period and assuming I wasn’t ovulating, so I think anything is possible and always safe to check because our body can do weird things that make it hard to know what is going on
You have a high rate of conceiving two weeks or 10 days prior to your period & 10 days or two weeks after your period.
I conceived on New Years Eve, 2 days after my period ended. Technically speaking, I shouldn’t have been ovulating then but apparently I was.

Take a test if you are worried. We don’t know your medical history, some women ovulate at different times than normal.

Many people think that everyone ovulated mid cycle but everyone is different. You absolutely could have ovulated just before your period.
A period is the uterus releasing cells that were waiting on the egg… the egg is released by the ovaries to head for that bed of nutrition. If it’s caught by a sperm before getting there you are pregnant… good luck… see your doctor about other birth control meds.

I ovulated late and conceive my little guy I’m currently growing. Our bodies sometimes have off months, I’d take a test to be sure.
You can get a accurate test at the dollar store. Couldn’t hurt to check since its 7 days late. Usually a change in cycle normal is 1-5 day difference. Rarely 7 days.

It can happen any time during the cycle for girls with hormonal issues.

You have to ovulate in order to get pregnant. When you ovulate, you release eggs. But, you don’t know for sure if and when you ovulate. You easily could’ve ovulated before your period.

I had an implantation bleed which I thought was a period. 10 weeks later I found out I was pregnant and traced it back to then.
Man, our educational system has failed so many. It’s time we stop voting for these idiots in office, and privatise education.

Tests are a dollar just go get one. I find I’ve done this in the past. Calculate days, see where I am at, freak out waiting around to see if my period comes. This time I just went and grabbed test. Lol

You don’t always ovulate when you’re supposed to. Many women have irregular cycles, and even if you haven’t in the past, there are lots of things that can throw it off. Take a test.

Ok, you HAVE to ovulate to get pregnant, those saying otherwise really need to learn about the female body. 
That being said ovulation times can vary month to month and sperm can live inside your body for a couple days so you can still get pregnant if you ovulate after sex. Sometimes when you bleed it’s not a true period so you may not have ovulated yet

You can get pregnant on your period and you ovulate for up to 14 days after. The two weeks between ovulation and starting your period, you cannot.
