Hi ladies so I’m looking for ideas for my family vacation for next year? Do anyone know any good places to go for kids? Ages are 2-8 years old? It can be anywhere!!
Branson!! I live 4 hours from there and we go all the time. My kids love it and it’s so pretty this time of year
West Edmonton Mall , Alberta Canada
Gatlinburg/pigeon forge Tennessee
Brandon MO. Silver Dollar City is there and lots of shows to see and other activities
Nickelodeon universe, mario world in CA,
Never been, but I want to take mine on a cruise
Washington, DC. On The Mall, a grassy space between the Washington Monument and Capitol building there’s tons to go and see. Go up the Washington Monument, visit the the Natural History Museum with the big elephant, the Hope Diamond and many other gemstones, and the insects area to feed a tarantula or hold a hissing cockroach if you dare.
By the Washington Monument is the Museum of African American History and Culture. Read up to see if your kids would enjoy it. It’s really popular and well done, but it does bring up slavery.
Across the street from Natural History is the museum of History and technology with interactive exhibits. Take a paddle boat out on the tidal basin—especially spectacular when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. The Lincoln and Jefferson memorials are good to see in person, but no specific activities. Cafeterias in the museums are expensive, but there are usually lots of food trucks, many with food other than hot dogs! Bathrooms are available in each place for tiny bladders.
Closer to the Capitol building As a little oasis, hit the Botanical Gardens near the Capitol, and look around the outside of the National Museum of the American Indian—their cafe is wonderful. A favorite of many is the Air & Space Museum nearby. In the middle is an old carousel (merry-go-round) with fabulous painted horses you can ride for a fee. Museums so far are all free, but you may need timed tickets ordered in advance to get in.
There’s also the Spy Museum with kids activities, and a new Museum of Illusions that sounds fun plus a new Children’s Museum. There’s an entry fee for these and they’re not all clustered together like on the mall.
There are usually several festivals going on at any given time (parades, 4th of July show & fireworks, marches, special events and performances for various heritage months.
Staying in the Virginia suburbs is cheaper but see if you can be near a Metro subway line. Parking is about $30 in a lot, and can be scarce. Do one or maybe 2 things a day. It’s a lot of walking, and the kids will want to nap. Often hotels are in vibrant neighborhoods with attractions of their own. Take the kids to the hotel pool at night.
TONS of stuff to do, see and taste. We have restaurants that serve food from every corner of the earth. Afghan? Balkan? Uzbek? Ethiopian (eat with your fingers using spongy bread!), Japanese, Indonesian, Cuban, etc. Plus the usual European food spots, several kinds of Italian restaurants and pizza places, Mexican, etc.Let the kids try something new, though most places have some version of hamburgers, chicken nuggets, mac n cheese.
