What’s a good gift for a 5 year old girl that I can just go pick up at the store?
Always a hat for girls and boys that you may not know very well. Everyone needs a good hat. Maybe other accessories like a little bag and chapstick.
If you don’t like the parents much get that girl a toy microphone and clickity clack heels.

I made my 5 year old niece and bucket full of summer items to enjoy 2 years ago 
I also included a bathing suit, beach towel, bubbles, sidewalk chalk but you can put whatever in it.
