My daughter starts preschool in 2 weeks! What are some go to stuff to help her practice Tracing and etc I should grab? Also what did you guys do for school shopping? She is my first child going into school! We planned on getting new shoes, clothes and possibly a hair cut. Anything else anyone can think of?
Writing their name. Colors. Shapes. Counting to 10. Abcs. Start working on tying shoes too. All but the shoes can be learned from the work books at dollar general
New backpack & lunch pail (if needed), inside shoes, some hand sanitizer, Kleenex & disinfectant wipes are always appreciated to donate to the classroom!
At the $1.25 store there are tons of cute little drawing or tracing books.
Or get a marker and erase book from Walmart
My daughter loves them.
Send a change of clothes in a ziplock bag
I work in a school with 4 and 5 year olds. If she will be eating at school please practice opening any packages in her lunch. How to put the straw in a juice pouch, which bowls to keep or which bags can go in the trash. Please practice any buttons or zippers on her clothing she would need to quickly get in or out of clothing to use the restroom. Elastic waist pants or shirts are best at first. How to wipe herself and properly wash her hands. I know these things might seem basic but so many parents don’t realize that we will be helping 20 kids at one time, so if your child can do these things for herself it will greatly help her and us. Shie tying is good. There are some quick easy ways on YouTube videos for kids. How to say her first and last name, her teachers name, your name. Things like hiw to write her name, letters, sounds, colors, shapes, how to count, you can go to a dollar store and get little flash cards or work books for that or just use things around you. Street signs, cans in the pantry, labels in stores. Thanks for helping her to be ready and successful!
I had two start Pre-K last year (pk 4 and pk3)… we did the clothes, shoes (not expensive because we had to buy new every few months lol) after buying expensive. They play hard at recess. Our 3 year old goes to ok 4 this year and the other to kinder. They both learned to count and write to 50, the ABC’s, their first and last names, and learned about the months of the year, seasons, science (life cycle of animals) , shapes, syllables, etc. Only thing I prepared them with was of course the basics for their age. Most important thing you can send your littles with is manners and respect. Had a few kids get kicked out of both classes for tantrums, biting, hitting, … So to me that’s most important…
I’m a huge fan of handwriting books. Not sure about preschool level but actually getting them to know where an s goes compared to a t or p (up the the line of the t) as they’re learning to write rather than having to relearn it when they start doing cursive strikes me as a great idea. Tracing books usually only show the shape and not the size or height. You can write dotted versions of letters or their name in the book for them to go over.
I’m a pre-k teacher! Name spelling and practice is great keep it simple you can use paper and a highlighter and let her trace it…also holding and using scissors, ABC and count and recognition up to 10 is great but every kiddo is so different and learn at their own pace if full day don’t forget a good nap mat and blanket along with a insulated cup that’ll last. Comfy tennis shoes as well…don’t spend a ton of good clothes. Lots of paint, play dough, outside time…etc
From experience with littles I would focus on opening things! Try bags, fruit snack, their favorite cup and buttons or zippers on clothing. A lot of frustration for new containers and clothes with little independent ones! This will also raise their confidence level with being “big enough for school.”
The school should have a list of what they want her to have.
I was a preschool teacher. As far as supplies, I’d hold off because the teacher will give you a list. And for your daughter absolutely nothing. The main goal of preschool is learning to be away from you, learning to follow directions from a teacher, and socialization. All things you can’t prepare for ahead of time.
For Pre-K your little doesn’t need much.
A backpack and then the teacher will let you know what other supplies are needed.
For us it was a few folders, baby wipes, and class snacks.
Part of the Pre-K curriculum is learning to write their letters, numbers, and name.
I was told at my kiddos kindergarten screening They don’t expect or even want kiddos to know it all.
I wouldn’t stress too much about picking up workbooks or anything just yet…you can if you want to but it’s not something you need to do.
You might find it more beneficial to wait and buy ones that go along with what she’s learning in school.
New Clothes and shoes is fun and special.
Picking a backpack is also fun and special. I wouldn’t stress too much though.
