How can I teach my son to blow his nose?

Can someone help me with a silly little problem haha? My almost 6 year old still does not get the concept of blowing his nose. We finally just got him to understand it’s not blowing air out of his mouth, after years of trying/explaining, only to have him now suck in the kleenex with his noseHe cannot blow up a balloon either, and using that as an example wouldn’t help as he would just go back to using his mouth anyway. We’ve been trying to teach him for so long, and its driving me a little extra crazy because he’s so sniffly today and I just want to help him but nothing is working ha. Anyone have the same problem with their kid, how did you teach them or finally get them to understand?! He’s such a cute kid but man, not the brightest crayon in the box I tell ya

I tell my kids to close their mouth and blow like their blowing out a candle. It takes time

Following because I’m still trying to get my 8yr old to grasp this concept lol!

My daughter is almost 11 and doesn’t get the concept either. So I’d love to know how to teach her also :joy::tipping_hand_woman:t2:

I taught my son by taking a piece of cardboard and a qtip, placing it up to my nose and blowing it across the board to show I was blowing from my nose not my mouth

We held our sons mouth lightly closed and got him to blow air out his nose, and when they do it,make a big deal of it, than ask if feels better, when our son got it, we told him you only do it into a tissue or if it’s late and we’ve run out tissue, toilet paper!

I had my daughter feel the air coming out of my nose while I had my mouth closed so she could see&feel how to do it. She finally got it that way. So now I tell her to get mad and blow the air out of her nose like a dragon. She thinks it’s funny and it gets the job done :+1: she’s 5

I had my daughter take a deep breath and “blow like a dragon” out her nose with her mouth closed

Hold one side of his nose closed, tell him to blow bubbles but as he is blowing bubbles tell him to close his mouth and blow.

It sounds weird but we sat on the floor together, no TV, no background noise and asked him to breathe in through his mouth. Then had him close his mouth and push the air out through his nose. (It took quite a few times) We did this until he understood. Then we added a tissue, and I always remind him to keep his mouth closed and push the air out through his nose.

I’m 27 and still can’t blow my nose.

I would also love advice because my son doesn’t understand it either. He gets so mad when his nose is stuffy but cannot blow his nose he just sucks in.

Use one of these bulb syringes, suck out his mucus, these feel horrible and explain blowing out through his nose into tissue paper is easier and doesn’t feel as gross. Also most guys I know never learned how to blow the nose they sniff instead.

Yes my 7 year olds don’t get it either. I just wipe it.

Hold his mouth closed and tell him to blow real hard through his nose, can easily be done by you or him by pinching the tissue securely over the nose and using the heel of the hand to keep the mother closed
Personally I can’t blow my own nose because my super spicy brain finds it absolutely disgusting and it will literally make me puke, so instead I sniffle and swallow until…I actually start puking mucus, no it doesnt make sense but im 40 and theres no hope for me :no_good_woman:

Hold a tissue close to their face in the air. Have them put their hand over their mouth and use their nose to make the tissue move (like from a breeze). Once this is accomplished, they will have the concept of blowing out of the nose.

Point at the nostril and tell him to shoot his snot out of it… You hold the tissue and plug the other nostril. Then swap say now shoot the snot out of the other hole. Then encourage and say you aren’t blowing thru your nose try again or you’re not blowing hard enough. Shoot your snot is a gross but appealing game my 2 year old loved it and now she can blow her nose on her own. I still help because she will smear boogers across her face.

Use a syringe with saline spray to clean it out for him.

sadley i have an 11 yr old who cant get the conecpt of blowing out either ever sense she was little she blows in . never noticed anything with mouth though

following! sorry no advice but i can’t get my daughter to do it either🤣
