How do you go about getting full custody of your kids?

How do you go about getting full custody of your kids if you went through the process how much was it and what advice would you give? Yes I have proof the father is unfit, but I’m just wondering if anyone who already went through the process and won has any advice on where to start or what to do.

My lawyer filed the papers for me
We grew up together, so it was an easy choice. His dad was my lawyer, so when he took over the practice, he became my lawyer. Dad never showed up.
Easy win

Find the best attorney you can afford. They will help you through it all.

Go to court. File the correct paperwork. Sometimes you need an attorney and sometimes it just goes to family court. Fee’s were charged and of course work missed for court. But if you have proof it isn’t difficult and the child is the priority.

easy the father never wanted him so i have full everything

I did mine by myself, but it was easy because he was in prison at the time. When he got out he tried to take me to court but I got it dismissed.

Legal aid can help. They r free

Anything having to do with lawyers and courts is not cheap!

We don’t have full custody of my bonus son but just getting visitations ordered we paid 15,000

I filed paperwork myself.I got a lawyer through the courts. At first,we had 50/50.I now have full custody with an oop on my kids father.

Are you in a mother state? If so you just keep them and let him take you to court and fight then:crossed_fingers:t2::ok_hand:t3:

Find an attorney that gives free consultations and see what they say.

The best advise I was given, was to document everything and have your ducks in a row in court. This advise served me well when I went to court for full custody and the judge asked me how many overnights the father has had with the children. I spit out the exact number, and my ex was speechless (he was unprepared and the number was pathetic). The judge awarded me full custody almost immediately.

A really good attorney, I have full physical custody and shared legal custody. Visitation was supervised, I say “was” because it was never about the kid to him, and I didn’t want money from him so he just left. It costs A LOT of it’s contested and your kids are young.

I filed myself, went to court by myself, won by myself. The other party never showed up to court because he didn’t care. Easy win. No money spent.

I helped my friend get sole custody and the other parent has supervised visits. We gathered all proof and witnesses and filled out all the paperwork and did it all without a lawyer and due to her income, it didn’t cost anything. I also helped my daughter’s husband get 50/50 custody with his son and again didn’t get a lawyer with no cost. My daughter’s husband was not married and my friend was married.

Are you married?? You can get a custody form at friend of the court . However they made me file for divorce to pursue custody. Good luck

  1. if you were never married and depending which state the kids were born in, you already have sole physical & legal custody if there isn’t currently a court order stating otherwise. (he has no rights in most states).

  2. i got an attorney to help me better understand the legal terms and gave him all of my proof (plus they can access any criminal records if there is any). but you can also fill all paperwork out yourself. the cost varies depending on where you are. you have paperwork fees and court fees.

  3. depending on why you feel he’s unfit, it may be best to get a child physiologist involved.

It’s your opinion he is unfit and likely the same opinion he has about you. Take it to the courts and they will decide. It will be an expensive ride. For the record, it’s pathetic for a parent to claim one is unfit without the other being found guilty as such. Just as sad as parents seeking full custody. 95% of the time it is straight up greed and control they seek.

My ex got charged with 3 felonies and 2 misdemeanor charges and because 1 of them was domestic violence, we were granted a 7 year restating order, and I wasn’t making much money so I got a lawyer to do my case pro Bono. They sent the court date to his last known address and he was supposed to be there via video chat. He didn’t show and because of the nature of his crimes they awarded me full legal custody and full physical placement

My ex hasn’t seen my kids in 4 years. I wanted to the leave the state. Of course he shows up in court trying to prevent me from moving. He was so arrogant & controlling. The next thing I knew I was rewarded sole custody. It wasn’t even up for discussion. My lawyer just put the paper in front of us, had us sign it & said “you have sold custody” to me. I don’t even know what happened.
