How to change a childs name?

Seeking advice on changing a child’s name in England.

Hi. I’m in England. Can anyone advise me on how I’d be able to get my child’s second name changed before she goes to high school she starts next September? Her biological father hasn’t seen her since she was 5 And even then he messed her about. He doesn’t pay towards her upbringing either!
Kids in school ask her why her second name is different from her brother. It does affect her a lot so I know when she joins her brother in a big school she will have to face those questions again. I know I have to have her sperm donor’s signature to make this happen. The question is. Is there any other way I can do this as I don’t have any contact with him what so ever and to be fair I don’t feel he should have a say in what’s right for my child been as he isn’t (by choice )in her life. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, xx

Look into petitioning the courts for abandonment on his part. Once that’s done you should be able to change her name. That’s how my granddaughter now has the dad she deserves…

Prove beyond a doubt that this is the best thing for ur daughter. I went thru it with my 3oldest. The judge sided with us that their father was absent by his own doings

This was exactly my situation! I put my sons name down at school in my surname and told school I was going to be going to court to change it from what’s on his birth certificate! My son is known as my surname on everything apart from passport and stuff like that! I never had his name changed legally but he is 15 now and in no way known as his dads name! He is 15 now and will be old enough to change it himself in a few years! Good luck I know how frustrating it can be! :triumph:

School for some strange reason call my daughter by her father’s second name even tho I’ve asked them to change her name to my second name due to children asking questions x y and z. It’s almost like they enjoy her being teased :frowning:
