How to clear diaper rash?

My 2 1\2 week old son had diaper rash that recently turned into a yeast infection. We took him to the dr & got a prescription cream for him. It looks so painful when I change him (which is done very frequently). Any advice on helping him feel better? We’ve done the warm baths and let him air out. I’m just trying to find relief for him when we have to change him.

Don’t use baby wipes, they burn irritated skin.

My son had a bad one. An we went diaperless it was a bit messy… but we laid him on a thick blanket, with a receiving blanket over his pp. never use wipes to wipe. They have mild mild soap in them to help clean. If you have to. Do what I did and rinse every time you change the diaper and pat dry. Or rinse the wipes out with water.

Triple Paste works wonders once you get him cleared up so it doesn’t happen again.

Do you use wet wipes? If so switch to cleaning his bum with a warm wet face cloth. The chemicals in the wet wipes will just make it worse.

I ALWAYS keep but cream on my little. She hasn’t had a bad rash ever. But you do what you feel is best.

Keep it dry and keep him clean. Keep using the cream from the doctor. I would call them and ask what else you cen do. Use a warm wet cloth instead of a baby wipe for right now. It will be much gentler on the skin.

Baking soda bath just fill up to where it covers his bum and top of his legs I’d do 1/4 of a cup

Tummy time on a bed mat and put cornstarch. My youngest had it when he was little A LOT. I wouldn’t put a diaper on him unless I had to.

No wipes, they burn :sob::sob:
Wet washcloth wrung out
Alternate diapers, first diaper cream, second diaper cornstarch third diaper nothing , repeat

Don’t make the water too warm or too cold

I would definitely use the prescription that they gave to you but I swear by this cornstarch and Vaseline mixed into a thick paste… the cornstarch help dry out and the Vaseline keeps in a urine or poop off the sore spots

My youngest son went thru this and wr changed him often as well. The dr gave us an anti fungal cream and a week later we were back at the dr and they ended up having to give him a steroid cream on top the other ointment.

Go to walmart pharmacy and get resinol …works so much better than the nystatin

Sudocrem is the best. I use at every nappy change and both my kids have never had nappy rash. It’s a barrier cream and helps to heal any irritations and also helps to dry moist areas.

They have these thick medicated wipes they gave me a pack when I took her to the Dr I can’t remember what they’re called but you can get them on amazon and they’re amazing

I would give mine a butt shower at every diaper change. No wipes at all.
Dried him carefully and I laid him on a long hand towel and kinda folded it over his butt to catch the poop. Then I threw them away :joy:

I also gave him baking soda baths. And I put some in a bottle and would pour some on his booty. Dried him and put the diaper on. They helped soothe his pain and helped fight the yeast.

I change my son frequently, like every two hours, use aquafor as a preventative and he has never had a diaper rash.

Cetphil (spelling?) Soap mixed w water in a spray bottle. Spray bottom pat dry. Shld clear it up very quick.

Use cornstarch that will keep dryer don’t use baby wipes clean with a warm water and baby face towel.

But soft paper towels and clean him with those instead of baby wipes they usually sting when you clean on sore spots and when you put him in the bath add baking powder to the water by his private parts it helps a lot. Don’t be afraid to put a thick layer of the cream on myndaughter suffered from yeast infections until she was out of diapers.

Add cornstarch it will dry it up

Petroleum jelly helps alot and also cornstarch…

Maybe let him be diaperless for a bit? Get a few of those pads like they use in the hospitals so if he goes to the bathroom its not all over. I’d do it as tummy time and watch him closely or even hold him so his bum gets air. ALSO you might want to change diapers sometimes that’s your worst enemy.

Also i never used baby wiped on my kids bums till they were a bit older and when i did it was scent free etc… Get thick paper towels and use water/baby oil baby soap for poop

Use warm washcloth / water instead of baby wipes

Mommy milk bath. if you’re nursing add enough to make the water cloudy

Triple paste cream helped my son a lot he use to bleed from the rashes

When he pees don’t wipe him. Let him air dry. Only wipe after he poops until he is no longer raw. I know this sounds gross but my dr recommended it and it’s a big help. Hope little man feels better soon :blue_heart:

Cornstarch baby powder was the only thing for all three of my kids that worked. I couldn’t use any rash cream.

I found using wipes made it take longer to heal up. We used a wash cloth with warm water and then just put the cream on. It might also depend on what wipes you use. The wipes also will also kind of sting if it’s open

Change diapers or wipes, he is allergic to one of them

My baby had nappy rash so bad that it started to blister. She didn’t look like she was in any pain… But they looked so sore. I changed her nappy every hour, let her air out for about 20 minutes and then used Baby Dove nappy cream. Worked miracles! She hasn’t had the slightest bit of nappy rash in weeks!

Neosporin with pain relief

If your changing him often, skip using baby wipes and use warm cloths instead. Those wipes will make it worse. Keep him clean with warm water when he goes but dont wash to roughly. When you put the cream on him put a bit of powder over it so the cream sticks. It works great

Just keep putting that cream on poor baby

When my son had it I let him run around naked a few times a day & let him play in the bathtub with baking soda! Helped a bunch.

My daughter would get yeast infections all the time, Kroger brand athletes foot cream worked the best for us, might be good to mix that in next time with the diaper cream to help make sure it doesn’t happen again once it’s cleared up. Sorry for your little one

(cooking oil)
Just get a little and rub it on where the rash is.
May sound funny but believe me it works. My grandma used to do that to baby’s when they had a bad dapper rash.
Hope I helped you and your baby.

Try the next size up diaper.

My son had that, no prescription cream worked. Athletes foot cream u buy at the store is all that fixed it. So thats all i bought for butt cream from then on, no more destin or prescriptions.

Oatmeal bath!! My mom used to give them to me whenever I would get a yeast infection as a little girl (my uncle would watch me while she worked and he was young and didn’t know how to wipe me very well) she said it worked wonders for me and they would go away after a few days.

Clean him every time you change him. Put the cream on him and smear him in aquaphor healing ointment.

Aveeno baby oatmeal bath packets work great for my daughter! Anytime she starts getting a diaper rash I give her a bath in it also triple paste works great. I would maybe switch the diapers or wipes to that might be what caused their little but to break out.

Don’t use wipes to clean the butt - use warm water and baby soap on a rag and throw it out. Then let the baby air dry, and don’t thickly coat skin with stuff - anti-yeast cream only. I used a vinyl table cloth on the carpet and let him crawl butt-naked on that, to let his skin heal.

Mix the cream with some diaper rash cream! It works wonders and keeps urine off the skin!!

Plain yogurt. With active cultures works wonders.

No wipes when changing…u have to wash him…

Brown some flour and let it cool down and put it on the rash. It works my mom and dad used it on 12 kids and I used it on my daughter

Dont use wipes, instead use warm wash cloth then air dry and apply A&D Ointment. The A&D Ointment places a barrier on skin and does not allow the next pee or poop to penetrate to skin. Hope this helps! Worked wonders for me and my little one got instant relief with rash completely gone within 3 days.

Awww poor baby :frowning: my grandson went through that a few times when he was little. We leeft his diaper open n just covered him so he didnt pee all over the place and also found that this would happen every time we used pampers loves or even huggies so we started using the off brand from rite aide and dollar general n didnt have any more problems. Also use a warm rag to clean him instead of wipes. When he heals n you go back to wipes mk sure there un sented.

Mix lotrimin with resinol, wipe with warm wash cloth, let completely dry and then apply. I also used desitin in the purple tube in between. When my youngest cut her molars, her pediatrician told me to do that

Milk of magnesia when it is just a diaper rash. Works better than any diaper cream ever!!

DON’T USE BABY WIPES!THEY BURN. Use his baby soap and baby rags with warm water

Cornstarch and bagbalm works put bagbalm in bottom then the corn starch

I used original A&D ointment on every one of my grandchildren. They never had diaper rash. Doesn’t smell too great but works.

Caldesene in drugstore Walgreens very very good it’s a powder in a pink container…it really really works overnight I promise …

Unrefined pure coconut oil works wonders its naturally an antibacterial,
And anti fungal

Zinc and caste oil cream plastered on. Carry on using it every nappy change after rash has gone.

Try to leave his diaper off for a little bit every hour to let the air get to him. ( this is what my daughters pediatrician told me to do when they were babies and got yeast infections., over 30years ago)
And yes, it is painful and stings when you clean them up.I would recommend using this formula that my friend uses on all three of her grandbabies who have never gotten a rash of any kind. She cleans their little bums with this and a baby wash cloth.
2 cups Distilled water
1 Tablespoon baby oil or Olive oil. ( they use Olive oil).
Put in spray bottle. Works wonders.
P.S. It may be a little cold, but He will be ok. No different than using cold wipes.
I also used to blow on my little girls as I used wipes on them to help with the stinging. Wish I have know about this spray
Hope this helps. I hate when our littles are hurting or sick or in pain

Do you also need an anti fungal powder. In a pink can small amount and rubbed in

Let as much air get to it as possible, it’ll help tremendously! Lay baby on a towel or waterproof pad as much as you can instead of being in the diaper. I also was told by my pediatrician to mix equal parts aquaphor and mylox, until it becomes a cream consistency and apply, it’ll help take the sting out and heal it. It cleared my daughters bad rash in 24 hrs, along with airing it out

If you breastfeed, dab the rash with some expressed milk and let him air out. The breastmilk will speed up the healing process as well. Hope he feels better soon.

I second the plain yogurt.

Try different brand of diapers I had this issue with my daughter who is now 4 and it ended up being from the diapers.

Baking soda in warm bath water helps. Then pat dry and apply rx

Cloth diapers to get air n keep putting cream on there

We used resinol with all three littles. It’s seriously the best! Cornstarch to keep baby dry, and a super soft wet cloth for cleaning up messes.

This is gonna sound very weird but My son had a diaper rash that would never go away,He would have Different prescriptions and none of it would ever work!!
So I was at home watching TV and a commercial come on,It was a Vagisil Commercial,Then something clicked in my brain because I remember the doctor saying yeast!!
So I put Vagisil cream on him ,cleared up within a day

:woman_shrugging:t4:Yes VAGISIL:joy: :bangbang::bangbang:

Monistat worked wonderful for my son, was gone in 3 days.

Virgin coconut oil. Can be bought at grocery store in the baking isle. It literally works miracles! We used it on my 4 month old grandson when he got a bad open sore rash. Literally cleared it up within 24 hours.

Barsole shaving cream

Don’t use the baby wipes for a bit. Use some of these suggestions listed or just plain vaseline.

Calmoseptine cream! This stuff is amazing! My daughter had such a bad diaper rash her poor little butt was bleeding. The only wipes she is able to use is Babyganics I would recommend giving them a try. Also make sure to let your baby air out, put down some puppy pads and don’t put on a diaper for as long as you can.

You can buy that cream on Amazon. The pediatrician recommended it to us.

I had.this issue woth my 5 month old it was the diapers we ended up having to go cloth.

Use dry wipes wet them with warm water and then use another to dry him. I LOVE dr Smith’s rash cream my baby had a rash out of the nicu so bad it was raw. Used this method and she was better in less than a week !

Give him naked time, get a plastic shower curtain or vinyl table cloth and put down under a blanket a d let him lay out with no clothes or diaper, the plastic keeps floors clean a d at most you have a few extra blankets to wash. It will help the yi to dry up. Edit to add. Check with dr about colloidal silver drops on his diaper area

Maizena ( corn flour) trust me it works wonders

Put a little baking soda in his bath water, it helps soothe the skin. Then I try to let my little one air out. When I place a new diaper I use a lot of aquaphor and cornstarch baby powder. You can also use monistat, I did with my oldest son. Just mix in a little monistat with the aquaphor just before placing it on baby. Rinse your wipes in warm water and leave them pretty wet. If it’s super bad I will just take my baby to the bathroom and use the shower head instead of wipes. I hope this helps and that your little one feels better soon.

Wash with dial soap rinse well pat dry and then use cornstarch repeat with every change and will clear it up did it with my kids, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews

Have you tried the oatmeal soak bath?

My son was like this Dr’s didnt recomend desitne and said said air him out and everything none of what they recommended worked I used tje purple desitine and it cleared up right away

Put baking soda in his bath water. It is an alkaline so it’ll help ease the pain. Went through that with my daughter and it really helped

Lotrimans cream works great and fast

Do a couple baths a day. Like after EVERY diaper.
