How to treat constipation in kids?

My son is constantly constipated! He has had trouble going poo since he was born. Doctor recommended switching to formula shortly after he was born since he wasn’t going only drinking my breastmilk, that helped for a short while but we’re back to him screaming in pain when he goes! It’s miserable for both of us, any suggestions to help him go?? He’s 5 months I’m also debating on starting him on baby food early such as pears, prunes, and pumpkin. Thanks!!

I mixed prune juice in with my kids formula. It helped tremendously

Veggies should be first if you are going to give baby food purees

Dufolac, syrup for babies. My son was on it from about a week for months. It is totally natural

We had that problem, my sons dr said to put a tablespoon of the dark Karo syrup mixed in with his formula. It absolutely worked wonders!

Go get Gerber Apple Prune juice (on baby isle with the other gerber juices…comes in a 4 pack of small 4oz bottles) and give him like 2 oz …that worked for mine when he was 4 months old and also u can try Karo syrup…just a tablespoon in his bottle will work too

Tsp of dark karo syrup. It really works

Greens help with bowel movements i would start with green beans and peas first

Try a little prune juice.
They also make baby suppositories you can get at a pharmacy. I had to use this when my daughter was around 3 months.

Mommy’s bliss constipation ease. And the good ole thermometer trick lol

My pediatrician actually said it was okay to start solids at 4 months I started with vegetables my son was also always extremely constipated we found the Gerber gentle formula help it and also probiotics Gerber Soothe

My daughter has had this issues since she was 6 months old. The Dr kept saying “give her more prunes and apples and apple juice.” Did it for months and nothing helped. Took her to a better dr and they sent her to GI. Now they have her on a medicine and she takes mineral oil once a day. (Dr prescribed) I used a ton of prime juice a had to use suppositories when she was young. Good luck mama! Its so hard seeing them struggle to poop! My daughter would scream and bleed! Now she poops with no problem thank god!

My son was also always constipated. I used to give him childrens liquid glycerin suppositories and then lay him on his back and move his legs like he was riding a bike. Also warm prune juice can help. Warm is the trick.

Dark karo syrup, works great!

Pear juice worked best for mine

GI dr and better pediatrician

My son had that issue and the doctor asked us to start him on juice in a bottle and later about 5 months wanted him on a soppy cup. Juice is the only thing that has kept him regular with even cows milk

Try prunes and water with juice they also make an infants probiotic and Frida baby makes a thing called windi just dont want to use them all the time but to relieve sometimes they whistle and let out excess gas and poop!

I started giving my son a few drops of probiotics at night and rubbing his belly a little bit. And he started waking up and having a really good poop

I used corn syrup in my little ones warm milk . Would work very quickly . My dr , health nurse and mom all suggested it .

When you change his diaper massage his anus or the rectal thermometer trick.

My daughter (she’ll be 2 in August) is like this too. Her doctor had me start giving her benefiber once a day. It’s helped a little, but she still has a hard time sometimes. I’m not sure if a 5mo can take it though

Take an orange put it in boiling water let sit for a few minutes. Take out squeeze the juice out of it. Give to your baby in a bottle just a few good sips should get things moving. Worked for 2 of my kids.

I used to babysit a kid with this problem. Doc prescribed miralax, she was a bit older than your babe but ask your pediatrician if it’s safe.

Early solids will make it worse. You need a second opinion and a gi specialist.

My son has always had this problem and his doctor recommended milk of magnesia and it worked every time. And my son has taken the milk of magnesia since he was 3 months old he is now 3 years old

A little prune or apple juice in the bottle, baking soda bath, let him drink plain water.

Here’s some good, science and evidence-based info on baking soda bath. Helped my daughter. The Use of Baking Soda for Constipation Relief

I started giving my son a few drops of probiotics at night and rubbing his belly a little bit. And he started waking up and having a really good poop

While nursing, I drank prune juice and it solved baby’s constipation.

Unfortunately, this is an early sign of autism. Most children with autism have GI issues. My son only has a bm once a week.

Mommys Bliss Constipation Ease and Mommys Bliss Gripe Water. May also need to ask pediatrician about a possible change formula. Regular formula stopped my daughter up, soy based made her projectile vomit, had to go to Similac Alimentum.

Give him more water and rooibos tea with 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar

Give him 1/4 teaspoon of miralax for 3 days to clear him out then if he has diarrhea after that then try giving him half of that daily…worked wonders for my daughter when she was around that age and now she will be 2 in August and doesn’t and hasn’t needed it since she turned a year and has no issues going

Your breastmilk won’t cause constipation. It’s normal for babies that are breastfed to go 10 days without pooping.

A tiny bit of caro syrup in the bottle (like 1/4 teaspoon) and massage his lil belly

its normal for a breastfed baby to not go a lot. like up to 10-14 days. your doctor was misinforming you to push formula.
starting solids is only going to make it worse on his GI, especially when hes older.
try a probiotic.

Wait. The doc told you to put him on formula because he wasn’t pooping enough? Exclusively breastfed newborns can go 5-7 days, possibly longer, without pooping because, unlike formula, there is far less waste with breastmilk so less to poop out.

My son has always had stomach issues. He has to use probiotic drops. They retaul for 40 to 60 depending on the kind you need. They do work wonders tho

We have to do a tablespoon of dark karo syrup in my daughters bottles if she has issues.

My daughter was 5 weeks early and she was like this since she was born. When she turned 5 months old, The dr told us to use pear juice. Start at 3-4 oz. Then gradually go up. It may take a few hrs to a day before it breaks through. The juice is more powerful than the baby food our dr said. Good luck. Now she is 4 and still has some issues but not as bad. She gets pear juice still or she loves to eat the fruit. Oh and my daughter is not autistic either.

My son had that issue and the doctor asked us to start him on juice in a bottle and later about 5 months wanted him on a soppy cup. Juice is the only thing that has kept him regular with even cows milk

If he is TRULY constipated, try this stuff. It’s great and works so well, and all natural ingredients. I only used a half dose though. Keep in mind though that parents commonly misdiagnose constipation. Babies can go up to a couple of weeks without pooping, but as long as the poop is not hard they are good. Especially if you’re formula feeding don’t panic if there isn’t poop every day

happened to my daughter and i gave her a small container of gurber apple prune baby food and thats the only thing that helped started doing one small one a day then after a little worked fine every other day

Wait your Dr is misinformed. It is completely normal for a breastfeeding child to go 5-10 days without pooping! Babies bodies use almost every drop of breast milk and have little waist. Plus formula will constipate baby more in my opinion. More waist in formula.

Baby pear juice always worked for my kiddos.

Karo syrup always worked when I was raising my kids.put in a bottle with milk.

Have you tried mixing pear juice in his formula or giving him and half ounce pear half ounce water? Pear juice helps a lot! But be prepared for blowouts

The dr recommended for us white grape juice

Karo syrup mixed in the bottle. Used it with my first child and it worked great. I also had to start him on baby food at 4 months cause he was getting enough satisfaction with just formula. Feeding thoses baby foods will definitely increase the chance of helping. But always remember too much of sither of those things can give them a tummy ache

Breastfed babies don’t poop as often as formula fed babies. Your dr was very misinformed. U need to get a 2nd opinion asap

I always gave my lil one some honey n boling water when we just start our day n that helps if not honey then some brown sugar always dose the trick for me

Prune juice! And momma bliss has a probiotic for new born+ it helps with constipation also but it’s pricey for a small bottle. But prune juice worked wonders for my two. My son at that age was drinking an ounce. But both of my babes were both on solids at 5 months. Oh and also clear karo syrup will do the trick
