I was told my baby is measuring small : Advice?

Hi ladies. So I had an ultrasound today and I am 24wks. The tech said baby has all her feature’s, her heartbeat is good but she is measuring small for her size. I’m due March 28th, 2020. Have any of you ladies experienced this? She said they’ll keep an eye on her throughout the rest of the pregnancy. This is my 4th baby and I’ve never had any problems of this sort before.

Don’t stress it- at my 20 something week sono they told me my baby was measuring BIG. I didn’t have another sono after that until 36 weeks and now the baby is measuring 49% (slightly BELOW average) and I never stopped eating or doing my usual. It’s not always accurate

All my babies were estimated like 2 weeks behind because of how small they were but they came out healthy and I thank God for that. I wouldn’t worry unless the doctor says something about the underweight issue. I’m pregnant now and I’m 20weeks my girl measured out as a 17 week old she’s healthy just small. I’m tiny and I’ve always had small kiddos. Blessings to you and your kiddos I’m pretty sure everything is going to be okay.

Their sizing definitely isn’t right they said my little girl was 7lb 14oz at 38 weeks I had her at 39 induced due to lack of movements and she was a tiny 6lb. Also want to say your due on my birthday… I’ll be think of you both  xx

They said same thing about all 3 mine, all there were lower 6lbs when born and myboldest is 12 she is small for her age my youngest is 7 and gets mistaken for 5 alot… remember not to stress on it and just keep an eye on it

This is my 4th also and I was told she looked like she had a hole In her heart. so 5 weeks later, it closed up on it’s own. then they said she was measuring small. so i was senn every 3 weeks for that. here recently I’ve been seen once a week…I’m due December 28th. she’s measuring just fine but doctor may induce me in a week and a half due to my blood pressure fluctuations. all my babies have been 5 or 6 lbs. 6lbs 4oz, 5lbs 11oz, 6lbs 13oz. So they were all small anyways…

Dont stress!!! They told me my baby had really short legs. She’s 8 months now and his been in the 99th percentile for her height since she was BORN! Lol

I was told I would have a smaller than average baby and my baby ended up being 10lbs. So I wouldn’t worry about it

My son did. He was just small :woman_shrugging:

I was told my first child was small all the up till I had her. Then the day I was induced for medical reasons I was told she would be under 4lbs, she came out at 5lbs and 7oz

Said the same to me, That he was measuring small so I had to go in twice a week to get him monitored. I’m only 5’1 so I’m glad I wasn’t carrying a big baby. Ultrasounds can be off by 2 pounds either over or under… they Wanted him to move a lot during the monitoring when he was a super chill kid. They induced me cause they said it’s better to have him gain weight outside. My “4 pound” baby was 6 pounds and healthy.

I was told i would be lucky if she weighed 5lbs and she was 6 10oz

My 4th was small when born at 5lbs 15oz 38 weeks 4 days. He gained so much better outside the womb and is bigger than his brother(who was born bigger and at 36 weeks) was at every age and milestone after 1 month on. You’d never know now! Sometimes w subsequent pregnancies they get smaller rather than bigger but if they’re developing well they will do just fine once born!

I’m due March 28th too.
Try to keep in mind that their measurements are estimates. Though technology is amazing, it isn’t always accurate.
Baby still has plenty of time to grow and “catch up”.
Both my girls measured big (9-10 lbs) but both came out under 8.

My friend with both her kids measured very small she had her 1st naturally and 2nd induced they were both early but super healthy babies they wereent born super early n as long as there is nothing medically wrong I think u have nothing to worry about. I wish I was more helpful my 1st born was measuring 2 weeks ahead n my 2nd measure 4 weeks ahead. Like I said as long as there are no other issues I’m sure everything will be just fine! Good luck mama!

Throu my whole pregnancy with my daughter the ultrasound techs always questioned me when I was due because she measured small… She was born almost a month early at 4 lbs 8 oz and healthy as could be. Don’t stress it those are not always completely accurate either.

Both my babies measured small. My first was a week overdue and only 5lbs, 10oz. My 2nd one was 5 weeks early and only 4lbs 3oz. We just have small babies because we aren’t huge people ourselves.
Don’t stress about it until baby is here. Remember they are comparing to the average size of baby at that many weeks. As long as you are eating, taking your prenatal vitamins, and taking care of yourself there’s not much to worry about. Good luck.

Yep. My first was like this and I had to be induced. Came out healthy as a whistle, just not fat. 4lb 8oz. Everything was fine and went home two days later. She’s thriving now. Son is measuring small now too but I’m honestly not worried. Some people just have small babies and some people have gargantuan babies. Shit happens

I was told I was having a larger baby at least 8 lbs at 38 weeks …two days later I gave birth to a HEALTHY 4lb 1 oz baby girl. Wayyyyyy off!

Nothing to worry about. My boy measured small my entire pregnancy… he kept measuring 2-3 weeks smaller… he came out as 6lbs 5oz a week before due date.

My daughter did and was small, actually at 20 she’s only 5ft 2in.

Measured 2 weeks behind my whole entire pregnancy and came on my due date
6 pounds 9 ounces
But I gained like maybe 15-20 my whole pregnancy and I’m not very big to begin with

I wouldn’t worry. Both of my ultrasounds showed my son was small and was calculating due dates that were 2 and 3 weeks passed my original due date. He ended up being over 8 lbs at birth.

My first was early 3 pounds 17 inches long my 2nd was a week early 4 pounds 18 inches long my son 14 days early was 5 pounds 20 inches long my son is now 12 and stands 5 foot 6 my other to r 4 foot 9 and 5 foot 1

Relax. Three days before my first child was born I was told he might weigh 5 pounds. He weighed a tad over 8 pounds at birth. You’re doing a good job mama! Don’t worry

Both my babies did, they had to do none stress tests once a week the last month, and so extra ultrasounds. I was induced with both. They were small but it wasn’t anything to stress over my son was 5lbs 6oz and my daughter was 5lbs 1oz. They are both happy healthy kiddos.

Both of mine measured small. I actually had to have weekly scans for my daughter because she measured 2 weeks behind. I just make small babies. But sometimes measurements and weight can be off so I really wouldn’t be to concerned until the baby is born and they see babys exact size.

Measured small with my first. If she wouldve came full term she wouldve been around 7lbs. She was almost 6 weeks early and was 4lbs 8oz.
My youngest measured big but came out 7lbs 1oz.

They told me by 8 months I was carrying a large 9-10 pound baby. My little came out at only 6 pounds.

I was told with my third all her measurements where off and they thought my plecenta would fail I was induced at 38 weeks she was born 33 minutes later, screaming on the way out all her measurements where perfect and my plecenta was very healthy.

Is was told I would have a 6-7 pound baby and about 19"…he came out 8 pounds 12 ounces and just shy of 23"

My son was right thru , he was4lb 12 onces and born 4 weeks early , but he a a healthy 5 yr old now

Ultrasounds can be off! I was measuring behind and had another ultrasound at 37 weeks and my daughter was huge at that ultrasound, 7.2 lbs. thankful I gave birth at 39 wks 3 days :grimacing:

I had this with my son. Every time I’d go to one of my ultrasounds they’d say his percentile dropped more. By the time I had him, he was in the 11th percentile n was born 6obs 5oz 19 inches

I was told my son was measuring ahead. Then at 20weeks. He was measuring two weeks behind.
38 weeks I went into early labour but they wouldn’t do anything because they wanted him to get bigger. Measuring at 5-6pounds.
I gave birth 40+2 weeks and he was 7lbs 3.5oz.

Mine was measuring way small. Came 2 weeks early 5lbs 14 oz perfectly healthy ready to eat lol

my 1st was small all throughout my pregnancy, he came out at 2.8kg.
he’s now 3.5 and is only 12kg but perfectly healthy.

I’ve had 5…two measured way big, two measured small, one measured small but only in the legs. All has normal brain and heart measurements. All the organs were in place just find. Ultrasound measurements are notorious for being innaccurate regarding limb length and weight. Don’t worry. :kissing_heart:

My 2nd measured small. My kids are 15 montha apart and they kept telling me I was due May 28th. My calculations were that I was due May 16 (keep in mind I had a 5 month old pretty sure I could pin point the day). They scheduled my c section 2 weeks early on May 16th. I went into labour at 4am on May 16th. She measured in at 19.5 inches weighing 6lbs 8ozs. My son was born at 36 weeks weighing the same and measuring 19 inches. I would not worry at all. Just sit back and baby will grow :slightly_smiling_face:

I wouldn’t worry. My first was apparently measuring big, she was 6lbs10oz.
My second was apparently measuring small and I had extra appointments but she turned out 6lbs11oz :joy:

Sometimes they are just wrong. They just shouldn’t say things that are going to make a Mama worry.

Happened to me. I had to be induced because of it but all worked out and no complications! Hang in there momma I know its scary but sometimes baby just does better out than in, at least thats what the dr said. My baby girl is happy and healthy now

My babies measured big but none of them was over 7 pounds when I had them. It’s really just an estimate.

My first was a tiny baby and came out weighing 6lbs 5.3oz, 19". She went down to 5lb 12oz before rebounding. Full term but fit into premie clothes for the first couple of weeks because even newborn clothes were too big on her. My second measured 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule and came out 8lb 3.5oz and 21". She barely fit newborn clothes and pretty much went right into 0-3m clothing. I wouldn’t worry about anything unless your doctor tells you there is something definitive to worry about. Every baby grows at its own pace.

My 4th baby was small as well. 6 lbs at full delivery date. I had never held a baby so small. But he grew normal and is meeting every milestone. Don’t stress momma.

All three of mine measured small. I also had all three early. 8 weeks 6&5 weeks.

I had my first two weeks ago. Mine measured small. She was just a small baby but very health :slightly_smiling_face:

I wouldn’t worry. This didn’t happen to me, but it happened to my mom when she was pregnant with me back in the 80s. They just did more frequent ultrasounds to monitor my growth. Then during the last month of pregnancy I started growing and was born healthy and past my due date at 6 lbs 4 oz. Some kids just like to grow on their own terms.

My son was supposedly measuring bigger, alot more amniotic fluid, the works. He was born 7 lb 10.4oz and 19.5 in. My oldest was bigger.

When I had my first son I was constantly told he was measuring small. I lost 30lbs the entire pregnancy, I just could not gain weight. They had me so stresses by telling me that he would be 4lbs and really short if I couldn’t start gaining weight. They also changed my due date 3 times and landed on a date 4 weeks after my 1st due date because of his size. I did not agree with the due date change. It didnt feel right.

He was born April 23 at 9lbs 9oz and 21 inches. The cord was wrapped around his neck and he was blue. The doctor came in the next day and appoligized, saying that I was right…we should have stuck with his due date that was 34 days ago and that another week in the womb and he wouldn’t be here. Doctor’s and their instruments are not 100% correct. I take everything that they say with a grain of salt and if it seems wrong, I seek a 2nd opinion!

Yes for my first. She was perfectly healthy but was small…now you wouldnt know it as she is 13 and 5’2 120lbs. But my due date was originally 3/28 and they adjusted it to 3/23 amd she came 3/16 at 6 lbs

My last two pregnancies, my boys are like 5 days less then a year apart. One was born April 4th other born march 30th. Threw out both pregnancies I was measuring small. Some times 2-3 weeks behind. Both pregnancies I was told they were going to be small babies maybe about 5lbs. Both pregnancies I was induced 5-8 days early becuse they figured they’d get them out and they be able to gain more weight. Once they were out one was 6.7 lbs and other was 7.4lbs they were both about average weight and healthy.

IUGR. My 5th baby was diagnosed with it and the placenta was monitored weekly. Thankfully she was healthy and the placenta was healthy. I was induced at 39w because they worried about the placenta. She weighed just over 5lbs. About the size of a 36weeker. It’s a good thing everything sounds like they are developing fine. They will just need to keep an eye on the placenta and umbilical cord to be sure baby is getting all the proper nutrients. My IUGR baby is 3 yrs now. A little small 26lbs last I knew. But perfect for her. Good luck.

My baby is 22 now. But I was measuring really small. Doctor said start eating icecream. Still measured small right until birth. Guess what, delivered a almost 10 pound baby. She was just really curled up.

I’m due in March as well and I was told she was in the 10th percentile of weight and by the next month she gained a pound and now considered normal range!!! I wouldn’t worry too much. Eat a lot of protein and whole grains, eggs, I read that could help fetal weight gain! Good luck momma

My son measured small my entire pregnancy, turned out he has a Rare Disease. This isn’t common, and I would imagine plenty of babies meeasure small, but sometimes there is more to it.

Remember that measurements in the womb are an estimate. All 4 of mine measured normal, but were all born under 6 lbs. All were healthy and caught up in weight by their first bday. My friend’s kid measured small, but was born 10.5 lbs. I wouldn’t worry too much, especially if everything else looks good.

They are not 100% right. My second daughter they said was measuring at 9lbs and when she was delivered at 39 weeks she was barely 6 lbs. Dont get too worried.

Try not to stress over it too much. There’s still plenty of time for your baby to catch up. My son was measuring small and underweight at 37 weeks But was 9 lbs 1oz and 22 inches long at birth. Shocked everyone how much he grew in there in such a short time.

Both my girls were small🤷‍♀️ They did extra ultrasounds and “watched” them both. My oldest was 4’8" and my baby was 4’5" but healthy and perfectly developed. You gain a lot of weight at the end of your pregnancy. You’re still pretty early along with a while to go so don’t stress yourself over something especially when it’s something there’s not much you can do about. If you’re truly that worried just eat better and make sure you take your vitamins everyday. That’s about all you can do to control it anyways. Everything will be fine though!

They kept telling my daughter that I said because I have ur due date 16 days earlier… she said I told them thst and they said ur wrong n bam shd had the baby on the due date I predicted

I had similar pregnancy last yr my daughter was due mar 14 but I was induced Feb 23rd . she measured a little small most of the pregnancy but around 34 weeks stopped growing which was noticed when i went to have an ultrasound at 37 weeks . i had an emergency c-section and she was 4lb 13 oz other than being a little small her blood sugar was a little low and she was having problems regulating her temp and feeding . she’s 9 months now and 21lbs

I’m the opposite, I’m 30 wks and I’m measuring 34weeks… I find out next week if there is an issue with her growth

The measurements are not that accurate… I wouldn’t worry.

I was told the same thing with my now 12 year old son and he came out 10 lbs 2 oz. I know everyone is different though.

Don’t stress it ,GOD is with you and your being given a wonderful blessing a baby is the most precious blessing you ca n get :pray::pray:

Some people have small babies.
All 4 of mine were under 6lbs 5oz and under 19 inches.

The baby is fine unless incredibly small as for how many weeks you are.

Had the same problem and my little one came out 6 pounds, so tiny but normal and came at 38 weeks 5 days! They did weekly non stress tests to monitor his heart and reaction to my movement and he came out perfect! Wishing luck momma

You can always ask about the placenta or cord to make sure baby is getting enough. Check your pre-natal vitamin quality and try to get more water, fruits and vegetables. The dates may be off well. Check with the doctor and be sure to ask about those results.

Just not very accurate especially farther along. I wouldn’t worry too much. Mine was the opposite, they were saying he measured ahead and I had him a day early. He was only 5lbs 7oz

My baby measured small. I went into labor at 37 weeks and she was 18in 5lb 0.8 oz

You’ll b fine. Not every baby is the same, they take they’re own time to grow. They said the way my baby was growing he was going to be 10+ lbs. He was barley 6 lbs when he came out tho.

Every baby is different! Don’t stress.

I was told my daughter (4th child) was estimated to weigh barely 5 pounds. She was 7 pounds and 3 ounces.
Their estimates are not accurate at all. Idk why they even say anything.
