Is it gross to let a dog lick out of a bowl before its washed?

does not bother me one way or another i feed my dogs some of what i am eating and many people do not like that but you know i really do not care if the dog eats out of a plate bowl what ever it gets washed in hot soapy water so it is cleaned every time

I let my dog lick my bowl or plate I wash it after.

That is gross, that’s what dog dishes are for! And no it’s not a white thing, at least not for me!

You are over reacting.

Do you have a dog? Some people treat their pets as if they were their kids and let them do a lot of things that non pet people or others might not do. Different people different perceptions. Washed and run thru the dishwasher should make it clean and sanitized.

We let my dogs do that (licked the bowl/plate/etc) washed after and that’s how we grew up. I don’t think it’s a bad thing either way

def over reacting…gonna be washed anyway w/ soap. it’s not like the dog is french kissin’ u

You are over reacting. Washing the bowl in hot soapy water will kill any germs.

I can see both sides but personally I would say overreacting it needs washed anyway

I thought after the dog licked the bowl you didn’t have to wash it.

Nah Dude … that’s just nasty. If it licks it’s butt it ain’t eating out my dishes

It’s called the pre-wash!

Dog mouths are cleaner then humans do you share silverware and dishes with other people? That would carry more germs than the dog.

Yeah that’s :face_vomiting: and no a dogs mouth isn’t cleaner than a human.

It’s honestly really a personal deep core opinion. A lot of therapy along the way made me actually realize this. I use to think this was disgusting and I’d toss out the bowl too BUT then it’s something that didn’t really bother me any more. So again it’s a personal opinion. It can change down the road or not at all. I’ve been on both sides of this fence

It’s gross to me but I don’t like pets

It’s really not that serious. She’s about to wash the bowl after. What other kinds of germs do u think get washed out of bowls every day ?

I don’t have a problem with it. I let my dogs lick the plate then wash it.

Yuck, but that’s just me.

Makes me wonder what else in your kitchen has been licked clean

I let my dogs lick them. Might as well let them have a little treat instead of it going in the trash. :slightly_smiling_face: but as someone else mentioned dogs are cleaner than people.

Gross. I would never!

Meh. I’m unbothered.

Doesn’t bother me at all.

I just let the dogs lick all of our dirty dishes. They are so damn good at it they don’t even need to go in the dishwasher after. Straight to the cupboard. Saves money on dishwashing detergent, electricity and time spent having to load and unload them all every day.

The problem I see with letting your dog lick clean a human plate or bowl is that you are conditioning them to do just that. So when they are not supposed to eat something that has been served, don’t get mad at your dog because you only have yourself to blame.

a little of both, I would most likely vote with her. I see what you are saying but the dog lives full time with you both right, most likely sits on the chairs or bed lays on your rugs, maybe even licks you now and then. What are you going to do when you have children and they poop their pants are you going to throw them in g-pail is it in kitchen or bathroom? either way that is kind of disgusting too more so then the dog licking the bowl, and if you have a dishwasher it kills germs anyway. Please pick your battles better.

Nothing to freak out about…just go with it

If asked in the dishwasher after the dog licks it then I don’t see the issue .

Lol this is ridiculous… it gets washed either way. How it is any different from letting something sit in the bowl and get crusty? People do that all the time and never bat an eye. :woman_facepalming:t2:

in my opinion yes we no it can be washed but it still is nasty dogs dont have that cleanest mouth and soap yah cleans it but not 100 percent like the antibacterial stuff 99 percent never 100 percent I would have said something to but if it was 1st time you seen her do that I Maybe would calmly talk to her let her no you don’t like that and if she can not do it no more all depends on how you came at her about it makes huge difference in alot of cases

My dogs try and lick the dishes as I put them in the dishwasher. I shew them away but it’s not the end of the world. I’ve fed my dogs food off my fork before (when I’m finished. I do not eat off the fork again after they lick it lol).

Its fine. Lol relax.

Nope, not gross. Just wash it and it’s no biggie. You can tell in this thread who didn’t grow up with dogs. Didn’t we just learn for the past two years that hot soapy water kills germs? Plates, hands, same thing.

My dogs only use our bowls :woman_shrugging:t3:

it doesn’t take much to put the leftovers in a dog dish or bowl. and its a wives tale, a dogs mouth is not cleaner then a humans. I’m sure its fine once it’s clean and sanitized, more of a personal preference then anything

It’s literally going to get washed :woman_shrugging:t3:

Sorry but not sorry. That is absolutely gross who wants to eat out of a dish that a dog has slobbered on and licked clean. That’s like eating out of your dog bowl  … after you wash it of course  I have 3 dogs and I can assure you they eat only out of their dishes.

Nope, not acceptable, cant share dishes with dogs.

I don’t think it’s a big deal. It is going to get washed

My parents always let the cats and dogs lick the dishes (as long as it was something that was ok for the animals to eat). The dishes always got washed before they were used again.

My dogs are the pre wash before I load the dishwasher. No shame :woman_shrugging:t3: they sleep in my bed too, AND get to be on the couch! Don’t get me started on what my cats get to do

We let our pooch lick plates and bowls clean sometimes. And then we wash it. It’s really personal preference. If it bothers you, talk to your girlfriend about it and come up with a solution. Good luck!

I agree it is gross but it is to each it’s own.

Raw food, meat etc gets into and onto the utensils, plates bowls whatever and theyre ok to use after washing. A dogs saliva is no worse than a raw peice of chicken… You wash it correctly its clean.

Our dog has her bowls to eat out of. But what’s the difference in your dog licking out of a bowl that’s going to be washed and letting your dog lick you in the mouth? I’d rather Sadie lick a bowl than lick me in the mouth!

My dog and cat do NOT eat off of our dishes. I think it’s disgusting, sorry.

Well, y’all would hate it at my house then!

As long as they are washed what’s the big deal? No different than a guy or a kid dropping food on the floor and picking it up and eating it…10 second rule

Our dog does meander over to the dishwasher while we load it. She gets a few licks in  I absolutely wouldn’t if I was hand washing because it doesn’t get sterilized but in a dishwasher? Yup, everything dies!

My late beagle Paradise would lick my plate clean. I washed it. Dogs lick your face all the time. You don’t throw your head away…ok, most of us don’t. Now coming up…I am pretty sure my parents would have licked my tail with a belt for that.

So ya dog can’t eat out the bowl bc he licks his butt :woman_shrugging:t3: but you prolly lick ur gf butt and eat off the plate… what the difference?

I’m sure your animal has kissed you right after he licked his butt a time or 10. Wash it. You’ll survive.

What is it you think will happen? Is this a real fear or a made up one?

Everyone has different opinions i do agree with you in my personal opinion it just isnt in me to have a dog that licks ass and pee shit ect ect licking my pots and plates it is disgusting and i dont think a wash would sit right in my head but others just find a lil soap and water for their solution to each their own but definitely not wrong if you were raised that way best of luck

Dogs have always licked our dishes before washing. Dogs also lick our faces. All these modern day germaphobes are always the sickest. :woman_facepalming:t2:

As long as that bowl is cleaned afterwards it shouldn’t matter if a dog licked it.
You’re definitely OVERREACTING!

I don’t let my dogs. I’m just not starting that habit.

It’s going to be cleaned? Don’t be so judgmental. Is it going to kill you?

Every one has there own way of doing things i my self think that is why they have doggie bowls .to each its own when your in some one else house its there rules ,

Why is it gross? So long as it’s not licked then put away or given to someone, it’s fine. The dogs germs are no different to ours, so washing it would eliminate anything.

Besides, it’s worse having a bowl get moldy from left overs or something than it would be for a dog to clean it out.

It’s getting washed.
