Is it gross to let a dog lick out of a bowl before its washed?

Idk what race has to do with a dog licking the food dish lmao

I’d never eat out of that bowl again

I am a white woman and that’s NASTY! I don’t think it’s a color issue. It isn’t just nasty, it’s also a bad habit! What do you think they’re doing when you aren’t around! Gross

:nauseated_face::nauseated_face::nauseated_face:, what are doggie bowl’s for

I put my plate on the floor for my doggo to its getting washed anyway

It’s a bit gross. Your animals should have their own bowls where left overs are transferred when done eating. I don’t see anything with sharing your food, but eating utensils no! And that’s why I won’t eat at just anyones homes. People do some pretty gross things!

First off, I love dogs more than people.
With that being said, mine have their own dishes & I personally don’t like them licking ours. Yes they get thoroughly washed but I still prefer to keep them separate.

She is the one different lol. I do it all the time!

Dishes will get sanitized. No problem.

I don’t think being black or white matters to this question . To me it would not a big deal your dog licked out of a bowl that is going to be washed lol

We let our dog do this but then we wash it both by hand and in the dishwasher which has a sanitizing cycle so to me I don’t see an issue.

We always let our dogs eat off the plates when we were finished, then they went in Dishwasher which is very sterile !! never bothered me, and still doesn’t when I see it done.

I’m anti germs and ocd about a lot of shit but if I let my dog eat people food (she cant, she’ll have the sh*ts) I think I’d let her lick the bowl…then just rinse it real good and soak it in hot water before washing with soap🤷‍♀️

That grosses me out ! I’m with you.

Girl, I let my dog have a lick of my lollipop if I’m eating one. But o also grew up in the sticks, killing food to eat and drank well water :woman_shrugging:t2::woman_shrugging:t2:

I mean you could just say “hey I don’t like that can you use a other bowl for the dog” and see if that resolves the situation

I think it’s disgusting even if it’s going to be washed

It’s not gross… when they can lick our face, why can’t they lick our bowl… the only concern I will have, is it safe for my dog to eat that food…

It’s gonna get washed lmao it’s all good

Umm they lick your face, as long as you wash it with soap and water then put in the dishwasher it will be sterilized.

That is kinda gross, why allow dogs to lick bowls that you eat off of? Who cares if it’s gna get washed, the point is dogs are dogs and humans don’t eat food off the ground like dogs do

Yuck, no. I wouldn’t let my dog do this.

Seriously? It’s going to be washed. Calm down. You got raw meat, raw fish, eggs etc touching the inside of bowls that you wash and then use again… dirty hands be all up inside them bowls and you wash and reuse them too… you’re being dramatic.

What’s the big deal? As long as it’s being washed. Don’t you eat out at restaurants on dishes and use silverware strangers have used??

Different cultural acceptances. I understand. It wouldn’t fly in my family’s home, but it doesn’t bother me. I wash my dishes with bleach and put most things in a hot dishwasher.
Two different perspectives. Not a matter to break up your home over though.

You can sanitize the bowl.
Bleach it
Now if the dog ate it, then you got some after. Now that is nasty.

A dog’s mouth is cleaner than ours usually. Don’t tell me you haven’t licked something gross.

I’m not going to lie, I’ve let my dogs do it before on occasion. But afterwards I will bleach and wash whatever bowl/plate they have licked off of. Better/cleaner to put the food in the dog bowl honestly.

Eww dogs have germs that can be very harmful to humans, it’s a no from me

Not a big deal lmao. Don’t you still eat off the same plate that falls on the floor, could have gross old food molded on there, been sitting in dirty sink water and you wash it? Then use it? Trust me, you’re fine. Let the dog have some food.

Nasty!! I’m with ya! I’m white and think its disgusting. My aunt is Mexican and she married my white uncle and she lets the dogs eat out of her bowls. I almost wanted to throw up because I eat over there all the time. Idk I get dogs lick our faces but I just feel some type of way with animals licking/ eating out my bowls.

You were not over reacting! Dogs have the own bowls and stuff no reason for them to be eating out of yours :face_vomiting:…
Throw that bowl out

My animals have their on bowls but who cares ill let them lick my plate clean if I wish. Anyway her dog was licking a bowl that was fixing to be washed so she didn’t have to rinse. It doesn’t matter about your skin color. I saw a tribe in national geographic of a woman non white laying in a hammock her baby at one bresst nursing & a puppy on her other breast nursing. Is that gross to you? Weird to me & I wouldn’t do it. But it’s w/e floats your boat

It’s going to be washed calm down.

Oh my , some of these comments ! If you have a dog or a cat chances are you have faeces in your home , I’m not meaning crap
On the floor I’m talking animals walking in it , cats scratching in litter and then it’s okay for your cat to have crap on it’s paws and then walk the table
Or walk the couch and so on … Licking out of a bowl is nothing … Worry when it’s not being cleaned :joy:

It’s fine it’s going to be washed?

I mean. … it’s going to be washed anyways with hot soapy water. It sounds disgusting but if you think about all the other things that have been on dishes.

If my fur baby who was my best friend for 14yrs ate out of anything,I always washed with bleach or vinegar…

Yes, you’re overreacting. As long as the dog isn’t the dishwasher lol it’ll be sanitized, calm down :joy:

I’d never let animals eat out of my plates or bowls. Ewwww. My dog licks his balls all day long.

That’s just nasty! You aren’t overreacting at all

Kinda yukky. My big thing is dogs should eat out of their bowl and learn people plates/bowls are a no go area. Boundaries

If the dog licks it long enough then you don’t have to wash it.

Well I wash my dishes and I definitely wash them correctly so it wouldn’t phase me any. But I mean you’re entitled to feel how you feel.

for those asking why skin color might affect a reaction about dogs. Generational Trauma can pass fear of dogs down, and perception of dogs as companion as pets. I still feel it was an over reaction. but something to consider why, not saying this is why op didn’t like it…it is why some people might have certain thoughts about dogs. Why do so many Black Americans Have a Fear of Dogs?

You are dramatic af!!! I bet that dogs mouth is 10x cleaner then yours! I would of told your ass to get out if you don’t like it :woman_shrugging:t3: my pets are family so yeah I’m going to be defensive about it. It’s being washed anyways. Grow up

Uh…we give our dogs the bowls to lick out of before going in the dishwasher…

Wash a bowl out after the dog has licked it clean. Total slime coating left behind. the dishwasher removes it tho… up to you…

Our dogs lick ours :person_shrugging: then they get washed

It’s fine , you’re over reacting

I mean; a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans. And if you’re going to wash it anyways, I don’t see the issue?

The background or color dont matter it depend of your perspective . Some people don’t mind other do.

You’re overreacting lol

It’s unhealthy for the dog; dogs are lactose intolerant. But otherwise not a problem.

My grandma always let her dogs lick her ice cream bowl. It’s gonna get washed :woman_shrugging:t2:

Still cleaner than ANYTHING you eat off of or drink out of in a restaurant :woman_shrugging:

Eh. It’s an :sparkles:environmentally friendly pre-wash:sparkles:

It doesn’t matter whether one grew up in a black household or white household. It’s who grew up with dogs and who grew up with no dogs. As long as the dish is thoroughly washed, no harm done.
We go to restaurants without knowing how our dishes were washed before we ate off of them.

I personally feel its gross but I know people that will share food with their animals, let them lick them on the lips ect … If I know you have a pet I don’t eat at your house until I know your not them people… when I was younger I have a dog and I loved her and wouldn’t think anything of her lucking my hand or cheek so I’m not against loving your pets but we always had a separate knife for cutting up the dogs food and she had her own bowl , same for not having cats on the kitchen counter is a no for me

I do the same with my dog.

I do the same!! They go in the dishwasher right after being rinsed and they’re done licking!!

Our dog used to lick the bowl and then carry it to the sink.

If you’re washing the dishes by hand I’d say no way. If they’re going into the dishwasher they’re going to be sterilized. It would kind of give me the creeps Though. Lol

If it’s a big deal ask her to dump it into the dogs food bowl :woman_shrugging: I don’t see an issue with it we do it all the time, rinse and throw it in the dishwasher to sanitize.

My precious has his own bowl. I don’t eat out of his, and doesn’t eat out of mine.

Don’t think it’s a big deal at all. Washing your hands with soap and water has been proven to be best management for spread of germs. One could gather that soap and scalding water that can remove food from plates would sterilize plates

We call our little dogs pre-wash😆

It wasn’t her home, not her decision to make.

You’re over reacting…diva comes to mind lol

This is a fine line. As a pet lover I allow this but I know many don’t. The dishwasher disinfects your dishes so that’s why I don’t see a problem

You are overreacting. My dogs would eat off of my icecream cone. I’m 78 and still alive.

Overreacting! It’s not your house!

Definitely overreacting, as long as it is washed with hot soapy water there shouldn’t be a problem.

Nah. Doesn’t bother me. Nothing hot water and soap can’t clean up

I grew up with my parents doing that.

I look back and now think it’s gross and also don’t have indoor pets, kids are gross enough🤷‍♀️

I do the same with my dog. Then I wash it. It’s all good

Really don’t think the difference in opinion is because of a racial background

Yes, it’s gross and disgusting. But we do it anyways. Unless it’s something that’ll hurt them to eat, we always let our dogs “clean” the bowl or plate. However I can see how others are grossed out by it, that’s why we’d never let guests see us do it :woman_shrugging:t4:. But I also wash my chicken before cooking, because I know how to properly clean a kitchen. I’m just a rebel like that. For the record I’m a 49 year old mixed woman married to a 53 year old mixed man. (Both of us black/white).

I let my dog do that, I mean its getting washed anyway🤷‍♀️

Definitely over reacting.

I love my dogs, love them to death, but no they aren’t eating or licking out of anything that us humans eat out of. Getting washed or not.

What does it matter if it is going to be washed? I mean honestly a lot of peoples hands are probably dirtier than that bowl was after the dog got done licking it! Just sayin’! (Well, assuming the dog is well taken care of, of course. )

You’re overreacting. It’s dish that can be washed.

It’s only gross if you’re not washing your dishes properly

Just don’t put it back in the cabinet.

It’s normal lol
ALMOST all white families, and I’m sure other non-white families too, let their dogs lick the bowl before putting it in the dish washer (or handwash in the sink)- which has extremely hot water and sanitizing the dishes.

Plus, the dog gets to have a treat by licking the bowl.

I would never let a dog or cat lick out of the dishes we serve or eat food on, they should have a dish for them!!!

Definitely overreacting if it’s gonna be washed.

No they lick their private parts. I don’t like them licking me at all. No no no. But that’s just me.

If you are black you know that anything the dog eats from or licks is never going to be used by another human being. But dogs are literally children to white people. They leave them inheritances. A dog and my child aren’t getting along, what should I do? Ans: Sorry, the child has to go. Should I mortgage my house to get money for an expensive surgery for my dog. Ans: That goes without saying, you have to mortgage the house and save that poor dog. You can Iive on the streets but you have to save that poor dog.

The dog’s mouth was probably cleaner than yours. So maybe you should use the dog dishes instead… you’re totally overreacting.

She should have put some on a plate that could be thrown out

Dog have less bacteria in their mouths than humans…do you ever see a dog with cold sores…ppl think cause dogs lick their asses that their mouths are full of germs and that is not true. If the dish is washed in hot soapy water preferably a dishwasher there is nothing wrong with it…my dogs prewash my dishes all the time lol.

I let my mini pig like the bowls clean all the time. But… pigs can’t lick their ass so… lmao
