Is it normal for a 5 week old to be fussy?

So my baby boy is 5 weeks old and I’m not sure if his fussiness is normal or not. He is my second baby but my first spend time in hospital due to an infection and so I cant compare the two. From the moment he wakes to the moment he naps he doesnt relax. He will wake to feed, then become fussy even when I’m holding him. I’ve tried everything from rocking him, warm bathing him, skin to skin, colic hold, swings, swaddling… nothing seems to settle him. My next step is to swap his formula as hes currently on Gerber Gentle, I’m thinking of switching him to Gerber soothe. He has a check up next week which I will mention all this but has anyone had success switching from gentle to soothe and found it made a diffirence. Suggestions also welcome. Thank you.

I’m not a dr, but I went from regular enfamil to enfamil gentlelase. Same concept. Could be gas/ that’s was it was for mine. She wasn’t as irritable but Try the drops. They work amazing. And def try a more gentle formula. Hopefully that helps! Just a thought!

Mylicon… but I’m not sure if he’s too young, I think I gave it to my lo young but not sure if it was that young, so def ask! Saved our butts until we figured out the formula thing!

I’ve been dealing with this since i brought my twins home almost 12 weeks ago. They’re what you would call high needs. It just basically means that they’re super sensitive to EVERYTHING. Sounds to touch to whatever they’re looking at. Constantly tense. On top of that one of them had colic. It could be a food problem or it could just be that your baby isn’t as easy going as others. :two_hearts: as your little gets older it’ll get easier.

. My son was like that, and he did the best on gerber soothe compared to six other formulas, but eventually we had to switch him to hypoallergenic formula. It’s worth a try.

I don’t know the difference in those formula…but maybe try switching to a dairy free formula? Maybe he has an allergy and it’s hurting his tum tum?

Have LOTS of gas drops & gripe water on hand! My daughter & grandson (12 weeks old) live with me, & without these 2 products, our poor baby would be miserable!
Neither have “meds” in them, so no harm in giving it to them & the relief we all get is amazing!

Chiropractor worked wonders on my daughter when she was an infant. Pushed her out too fast, a quick gentle painless adjustment fixed everything. No more fuss.

My granddaughter is on a special prescription formula because her reflux is really bad. She is constantly fussy. But is starting to get over it at just over 6 months old.

Not saying it’s the same but my son did that. U finally got fed up with the doctors telling me pretty much I was crazy so I took a poop filled diaper to the doctors office and made them test it, turned out that Brest milk and formula and even soy milk was causing him to have tiny amounts if blood in his poop. It was cutting his insides we had to out him on nutramigen.

My son had a problem with breastmilk. He was a very colicky baby. Our ped told us to switch to the similac sensitive. He was a totally different baby after we switched.

Hey guys. It’s my post  So I think I’m going to try him on the soothe tomorrow and see how that goes for a week. His big sister who’s now two had a CMPA and was switched over to Similac Alimentum at 9 weeks but hers was clear as day it was the milk. After a feed she would pull her legs up and scream to high heaven. She also broke out in a rash. My boy hasn’t done any of that which is why I’ve left it so long. I originally thought hes just a fussy baby but now at 5 weeks I’m thinking theres a little more too it. He doesnt relax at all until he goes to sleep. Even being close to me he cries. I’ve also tried both the mommy’s bliss Gripe waters and the Mycylon (sp?). Nothing seems to settle him at all. I dont mind having a high needs baby if that is genuinely what it is but as I said, I’m thinking it’s something more as hes not even happy when hes being held, upright, at an incline, laying down. He has recently started to spontaneously cry, but it’s not a normal cry, it’s a high pitched scream type cry. His arms fly out to his sides, eyes go wide and he screams and whimpers for about five minutes until I can get him to settle, and then the crying starts again.

Be careful with gripe water certain brands contain alcohol that can make baby addicted. Its not recommended under 6 months & it has a very high sugar content that can damage their new erupting teeth. Try a chiropractor or homeopathic doctor

He could have acid reflux or it could definitely be the formula I have 5 plus one on the way and I never liked gerber formula it was always something with my first baby as that brand was popular back then I started using Similac and no problems from there good luck you could try the crib wedge if it’s reflux

u could also try some gripe water its the only thing that helped with my daughters colic. besides switching her to similac sensitive which is similar to the gerber soothe

Definitely ask his dr about it and see what they say. Could be reflux. Also you could look into getting him adjusted by a chiropractor, that may help a little.

My daughter was on Similac advanced sensitive( the orange one). Never had any tummy issues, plus you can switch to the parents choice of that kind and it’s way less expensive.
