my son has to have his wisdom teeth removed. he 19 but had really bad anxiety. he see all these videos on social media of these kids acting all weird afterward from the anesthesia. is this a common thing? has this happened to anyone and how bad was the pain afterwards. just trying to get him some real people stories.
I got mine out with just freezing and a little Ativan… no anesthesia required. Is he being put under for sure? Pain wasn’t too bad after the 3 were out, T3s were almost excessive lol. Lots of salt water rinses to keep dry socket from occurring, no straws, etc.
The whole “acting loopy” thing I feel is just a show for social media. Although some people can react differently than others, I think a lot of the videos are just exaggerated for views. My son got his taken out when he was around 12-13, and he was a little goofy for an hour or so afterward, but nowhere near to the extreme those social media videos try to make it out to be. There may be some discomfort and swelling afterward, but it really shouldn’t be too bad at all. Nothing Tylenol & Motrin can’t help.
Pain isn’t bad. Just keep up with ibuprofen and Tylenol. Might want to get some clove oil just in case he gets “dry socket”. You can probably get it from the pharmacy, you just have to ask them for it. You put a little on a q-tip and dab it on the hole. Tastes horrible, but extremely helpful if it occurs! Dry socket is the worst…
I’ve had two of them taken out and they only freeze it I have bad anxiety where I’ll have to take my medication for this because I hate the dentist
Had mine done at 14 I didn’t act a fool went back to sleep in the car. They give you pain meds so stay on that and he will be fine. I felt better by day 5. Make him plenty of shakes and soup. I did lose a few pounds nc you will eat like that for about two weeks
He won’t remember waking up. I had one removed without anesthesia and thought it did not hurt it felt like my jaw was being pulled around so much it would break . I didn’t need anything for pain but again it was only one
I had mine surgically removed when I was 17/18. They were so close to the nerves that surgery was my only option.
Everyone acts a little weird after anesthesia. It’s normal. And nothing too bad you’re just a little loopy/groggy so your brain is kinda slow.
I had carpal tunnel surgery in September…and I knew they’d done a nerve block but in my groggy state I forgot and thought I’d lost my arm like a person loses their keys. When I stood up it fell to my side and I guess I said “there it is” like you would when you find said keys.
The pain from having wisdom teeth removed was uncomfortable the first few days. Third day was the worst…but it didn’t help that I tend to clench my jaw and grind my teeth in my sleep.
They gave me this thing to tie around my head that you fill with ice it was wonderful.
I didn’t do the anesthesia bit and the pain wasn’t really all that bad. Had mine out at 19 as well.
I’ve had all 4 out and drove home after each, no big deal
My 17 year old just had his out last week. He didn’t act loopy at all. His pain was manageable with Ibuprofen. All better now.
Had my wisdom teeth out at 15 and didn’t act any way except it hurts bad I’ve been put under 9 more times after that and have only had one loopy reaction but also wasn’t given my 45 mins of recovery either it all depends and how long after the surgery you are woken up in my opinion
I got a second opinion and am now in my forties with four wisdom teeth. I’ve had dental surgery though and I was just under sedation with a local. No reaction afterwards at all except being a bit sleepy.
I am 29 and just got 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth removed in September. My wisdom teeth are impacted. And the reason it took me forever to go was because of my anxiety about it.
Unfortunately I did not have a good experience. I woke up in the middle of my procedure, I ripped out my IV and was giving the doctors a hard time. They were only able to do 2 of my 4. And told me the next time I come in I would have to be fully sedated. I was bed bound for 3 days. (Luckily my son’s father had him) But a week after my wisdom teeth removed I got Bells parsley because of an infection I got. I still have to go to get my other 2 removed. And I hope the next experience isn’t as bad. That’s just my story and
each person is different.
I had conscious sedation at the same age and I just felt super tired
Had my bottom ones out first decades ago. Got 2 doses of anesthesia because my teeth were impacted & had crumbled, so it took forever to pick out all the pieces. Tired afterwards & slept for 24 hours straight. Not painful at all, but had to get the holes packed because they had to go in from the side of the gums. I’m guessing his teeth are intact.
Just got top teeth taken out plus ones next to them as the wisdom teeth were growing into them sideways and impacted, but were whole, so MUCH easier. So 4 top teeth, not just two, taken out under general anesthetic. Went quickly, no pain until after & had pain pills for that. Was alert enough going home this time, but had someone drive me. Soft foods for a while & ice packs for cheeks helped a lot. Good excuse to drink milkshakes without a straw, eat popsicles and ice cream.
