My 5-year-old has been wetting her bed at night: Advice?

I dunno about where you are but in Australia dr’s say it’s not a concern until they are over the age of 8. My daughter is 6 and she is only just stopping but it’s not due to her waking up. No caffeine as it’s an irritant. I have to get her up around 9 (her bedtime is 7) and I get her up when I wake up to my 6 month old
Sometimes she sleeps through the night but I’ve been lucky. Minimum fluids before bed. You can try bed wetting alarms but that didn’t work for my daughter either she is a heavy sleeper and can take months before it shows inprovement

This also happened to my daughter. After numerous methods etc. I was fed up with washing bedding. Then I noticed a redness… discovered she had a yeast infection due to not wiping thoroughly during the day. After treatment bed wetting at night dissapeared. Sometimes it’s just a bladder infection that causes this. Found that with other children it’s just a fase.

This is still normal, up until 12 actually, you should not be limiting her fluids or waking her up in the night. She needs her sleep and she needs her fluids and you have already seen that doing these things doesn’t stop her from wetting the bed. Some kids bladders take longer than others to mature and send a signal strong enough to their brain to wake them up. One of my kids needed a pull up until she was 7 or 8. She was just a deep sleeper. I have 9 kids and she’s the only one who took that long.

Seems silly but if she snores go to ENT she might have sleep apnea which could be causing bed wetting. Tonsils out and it fixes both!
Good luck momma!

I had a kid I cared for that wet the bed till 10yrs old. No matter what we did. Turned out he had problems with his tonsils that caused it. Once his tonsils came out he never wet the bed again!

Have you tried chiropractic? That’s an easy, effective, natural option. Kids love being adjusted!

Some kids are just bed wetters. You can go to her doctor to make sure it’s nothing serious but she is only 5 and accidents happen. I’d get her some night time pull ups and keep working on it until they’re no longer needed

Was the child showing sings of readiness to be out of diapers? If not, then it’s not uncommon to regress even at this age. Before anyone jumps on me about daycare, pre school, or what have you, I’m not saying anything negative about doing it because sometimes circumstances force our hands rather pointing out something that has been shown to happen.

Daughter did this until 6 yrs old and they kept saying they weren’t worried about it cause shes young. Finally she started seeing a pediatric urologist and i demanded she be tested for type 1 diabetes twice and It was negative. 6 months later she got extremely sick, and ended up in the ER in diabetic Ketoacidosis and almost died. She recovered after 8 days in the ICU, and now a is diagnosed with T1D for the last year. But bed wetting is a major symptom of her high blood sugars. Type 1 diabetes is life long and not reversible like type 2 is. It is Autoimmune and they are born with this, its nothing anyone could of changed with diet. Please be aware and inquire about this with her pediatrician just to be safe. So many kids are diagnosed every day. I dont want you to worry to much, but i just like to raise awareness since many parents dont know this is a symptom of T1D.

My son wet to bed no matter what we did even had him checked. checkout by the Dr.and the Dr. Said he slept so sound he didn’t wake up to use the bathroom in his sleep he felt he was in the bathroom using it to this day he walks in his sleep and it’s hard telling where he goes pee .Once he came in our room and almost peed on his dad I thought it was funny but his dad didn’t.

If it’s a new issue go to the pediatrician. Yeast infection and being constipated will cause bed wetting

Actually yall bed wetting is not anytging you can really do other than telling them to use the potty before bed and not giving the drink right before bed. Its a developmental thing. Just like potty training, she has to develop that part of her brain pretty much. I wet the bed till i was 7. There was nothing wrong and this is what the doctor said. Don’t stress just keep night time pull ups and dont ask facebook these kinds of questions these moms are nit always the smartest

5 is still young. My daughter peed the bed til ten with no medical issues. Her dad peed the bed till 8. Shes a hard sleeper. Give it time

My stepson did this. I told him every night at bed time that as he is going to sleep he needs to tell himself that “I will wake up to go potty.” Over and over again until he sleeps. Within a couple weeks he stopped wetting the bed. I also made him help wash and dry his clothes and bedding and remake his bed.
He was such a hard sleeper and he needed to “train”, I guess is the right word, his subconscious to wake him up when he had to pee.

Get corn husk tea from Body to the Tea it helps with bed wetting !!!

My daughter i the same age with the same problem. Took her to the urologist and he said to teach her kegel exercises.

Both my kids went through this. I got the large kids night bed wetting underwear for them and it worked really well. You can find it in Walmart box of them in the same section as the pull-ups. Don’t make it harder on yourself waking your child up to go to the bathroom. If they still are wetting the bed past age 8 then you will have to worry and her pediatrician will order blood tests and an ultrasound to check everything and give her bed wetting pills. Five is nothing. A few more years from now then you would need to worry. The kid underwear that are made for bed wetters worked wonders.
