My daughter has been complaining of stomach pain and I am at a loss: Advice?

Does she suffer from anxiety?

Have you checked her appendix

Where is it exactly she is saying her stomach hurts? She may be processing food quickly and may need to keep food in there if it is truly her stomach, if it’s lower, it could be her gut or that she’s collecting gas in her abdomen and it won’t release… maybe try to give her some mylocon drops in the morning

I had the same issue with my 7 year old. She would cry with her tummy like you went to many doctors for them all to say she was constipated. She would sit on toliet for hours crying. I used probiotics and miralax. It helped a little. Every day just like you the school would call. My daughter was missing more school than what she was allowed. I took her to see my doc. He told me she has serve separation anxiety. I took her out of public schools and now shes homeschooled. 6 weeks not one time has her stomach hurt . she no longer sits on toliet for hours. Shes a happy 7 year old. The doctors said she needed the meds for anixety but i refuse to give to her. There are no issues now she is a happy 7 year old now. My advice would be have her checked for anixety. There are many kinds of anixety. A friend has a daughter that has testing anxiety she would get horrible stomach aches when ever someone would say test. They chose to use the meds. It is helping her. Wish you all the luck in the world with this i know the hell your going threw not knowing what’s wrong. Also try the probiotics for healhly digesting. They are gummy bears. Then have her checked for anxiety. As much as most adults think this is a adult issue it effects many children. Good luck. Will say a prayer

My 12 year old’s stomach/ back pain was relieved with surgery to remove her gall bladder. It DOES happen to children. See a doctor!!!

Alot kids have anxiety n that’s 1 sign of it in kids my daughter was diagnosed with it a year ago we thought she was starting her menstrual cycle but nope have her checked for that

Id take her to the ER next time so they can run tests/imaging etc. If they dont find anything then this will give you peace of mind. But I agree with taking her to a gastroenterologist

Look for A Gastroenterologist A Dr Cliff is mines but A Dr williams always on TV and he says he even do Tommy ace

Take her to a doctor!

mine did the same thing for a while her pediatrician would said the same thing it could be her diet or her anxiety etc but i decided to take her to a gastroenterologist turns out she did have stomach problems wich got better with medication

My little sister was having the same issue and when she went to the doctor they ordered an x-ray and found that her bowel was impacted. She told the doctor that she has a pass every day at least twice, but she was still impacted and they prescribed a stool softener and another another medication for her to drink and she had to change her diet. And now she’s better

Have her bowels checked may have a blockage and thats dangerous. Just went thru this a wk ago with grandson. Do assp so no surgery will be needed

Hay Elayna, didn’t she use to have some digestive issues when she younger and took probiotics and some flora , digestive enzymes I can’t remember the name of it but I can find out !!

Oh ya I remember it is Malbar this and probiotics remember when this happened before when she was a lot younger if you need it call sunshine health foods up her and they will send it there along with probiotics 907-456-5433 remember when grandma sent it to your mom and it worked try this it probably the same thing and her diet!!

Could be stomach migraines. Get a referral to a neurologist who specializes in that field.

Is she fine over the weekend? If the answer is yes there is something at school that is nerving her up. A bully, reading out loud, getting up in front of class, could be causing stress. Ask her what is bothering her .
My daughter had a problem with a student and couldn’t sit next to her or her stomach would hurt. The teacher just kept them apart for the school year

My boy was the same started at the age of 9 they put it down to stomach migraine it turned out to be grumbling appendix hes 13 now and had appendicitis 5wks ago and had them removed.he would get flare ups 2/3 times a year but the last time it was so bad he actually asked me to take him to the hospital so glad I did as they were ready to burst.sorry not trying to scare u his pain would start above his belly button and then travel across to the right side. Hope u get someone to listen

Could be she’s allergic to something. My son would complain about his tummy hurting and we found out he’s allergic to a lot of food. I quit giving him those foods and he hasn’t complain about his stomach.

Sounds similar to my daughter’s experience. Severe pain off & on as a child- sometimes nausea & vomiting what looked like bile. The Dr diagnosing anxiety, stress or even constipation. Finally when she was entering her freshman year, a trip to the ER & a few tests later, we found she had one kidney that had never developed properly & had to have it removed. Crazy they couldn’t find it earlier but she is fine now!

Tell your doctor you want a 2nd opion

It could be excess stomach acid. Try her with liquid rennie or some form of antacid. My son was always complaining of stomach pain which could last through the day until we started giving him rennie after every meal.

A proper docter wil find the problem.it could be ibs.symptoms are cramp bloating constipation and pain.if you can manage get omeprazole and stomach enzmes to help with digestion and clear bloating and gas.

Needs a ultra sound I had one last nite at er

A GI will be the most appropriate one. Hey if you feel that something is wrong with her keep insisting ; get another pediatrician to give you a second opinion. I went through something similar with my son’s pediatrician when he was one and it ended being a serious condition. His doctor keep telling us that he was regressive because we were overprotective.

Anxiety. I had this problem my whole childhood. I now have fibromyalgia. Maybe working on some comforting techniques and just try and soothe her. Rub her tummy. Talk with her. Cuddle and validate her. I just know I struggled with a lot of pain as a kid and was really stressed out. I hope she feels better soon💖

Appendix? Gallbladder? Bowel obstruction? Take her to the er and get imaging done. Better safe than sorry!

How old is your daughter? The reason I ask is because when I was 14, I complained of stomach aches so painful that I couldn’t walk or get comfortable. It happened often, and my mother and school nurse were sure I was faking something. The pain would bring me to tears. One day my mother stayed home with me. She thought I was constipated and tried to give me an aenema. When she did, she noticed something very odd and called her gynecologist. I was taken to her office for an emergency assessment and discovered I had a very rare congenital defect called an imperforate (sp?) hymen. I had been having my period for who knows how long, and it could not be evacuated due to the condition. I was admitted tot the hospital and had emergency surgery the next morning. It caused me to develop severe endometriosis that resulted in me having a full hysterectomy at 32. I know this may seem like TMI, but it could be a possible issue.

is she sensitive? maybe the stress of being bullied?

Has she been tested for mono??

Ok . could she be having gas. Problems. If you changed her diet .it could be she’s havimg gas. Broccoli ,beans. Certain foods causes and we all have had bad gas pains she maybe having gas trapped.also is she going poop daily. And where is she not offered milk? You might Think about reconsidering her diet

Will her PCP not refer her to a pediatric gastrologist?

Id get a second opinion. Mama usually knows her kids. Maybe even a trip to the er and request they do an ultrasound to make sure everything is okay.

My niece has always complained of a belly ache since a little girl and it came out to be anxiety. She would get herself so worked up that it would physically make her ill.

Stress and anxiety possibly is she being picked on at school?

I have read that anxiety maybe the cause of stomach pain, child doesn’t know what 'anxiety ’ is so relates it to upset stomach. Had this problem with my granddaughter.

Is there something or someone at school upsetting her? I had a lot of stomach aches as a child due to anxiety.

Are they sure it is her stomach? I suffered for years as a child with a ‘stomachache’. Turned out to be an extremely large spleen. I have an autoimmune. No body caught till I had my second child.

Change doctors. Insist on them looking into it . Not every problem is anxiety.

Ask her if she knows what causes her tummy ache. Could be the teacher/kids/bus driver!!!
Or ask her when the pain began.
Then you can narrow it down food/person. But I’d find a second opinion.

Maybe get a recommendation from her doctor for a gastroenterologist. It could just be nerves, my sister suffers with severe stomach pain due to her anxiety but never to the point she couldn’t walk. I would get her checked out maybe by the gastroenterologist to be safe.

I also agree to get a second opinion and see a gastrologist. Also the acid in juice and lemonade might irritate her stomach more. On another note my daughter who is 15 now went through a year of stomach aches when she was 10-11. I knew the school nurse personally. She would call and tell me she was having her lay down until she felt better. Every morning she would have a stomach ache. It ended up being anxiety for her. It was a rough year.

Could be anxiety or ibs 🤷

Second opinion for sure. That is what I had to do for my child who was having the same issues. It took blood and stool samples. Ended up it being a bowel infection. I was determined to find the cause.

Have her tested for celiacs

I’d get a referral to a specialist if it’s that concerning and been going on for this long. Some children will also say their stomach hurts when they are anxious, worried or uncomfortable. Some kids aren’t social butterflies and get anxiety like adults but they don’t know how to express it and will sometimes just say their stomach hurts. I’m not saying it’s anxiety for her but for some it is. Definitely get another opinion if you feel uneasy about what you’re getting now.

I’d get a second opinion. My son went through this at 2. I refused to leave until they figured out what was wrong with my baby. They did an X ray and he had a giant mass of poop stuck in his intestines. He had still been pooping though so we didnt know he was constipated. They put him on mirilax and when everything kicked loose it was the most god awful smelling explosion ever. It took both my husband and I to clean him up because we were both almost puking. Then after that they told us at the first sign of any possible constipation to mix in mirilax in his cup so that never happens again. They also gave us a list of foods that cause it if they eat to much. Hes almost 4 now and poops at least 3 times a day and hasnt had constipation issues since

How often does she have a bowel movement? Could constipation be the cause?

Get you a second opinion from a gastroenterologist hey have pediatrics for children. Bless her heart hopefully she’ll be better soon.

Make sure it’s not anxiety. My son was always sick and didn’t want to go to school. Turns out he was being bullied.

Maybe constipation? My 8 yr old daughter suffers from it and she was so backed up recently. We would’ve never guessed either because she was going daily and wasn’t complaining it was too hard or anything that’d you’d guess she’d have from being constipated.

We got xrays done in the ER because she was complying of her belly hurting and we had just recently been in an accidents. Turns out it was just constipation :woman_shrugging:t2:

ETA- shes also on an anti acid twice daily because her anxiety causes her to be nauseous. Doctor said basically her anxiety causes her stomach acid levels to increase causing nausea. Maybe it could be that?

Does she consume a lot of dairy?? I’m lactose intolerant and get severe stomach pain from dairy products

Needs pediatric gastroenterologist.

Try milk bodies already a I ascetic lemonade juices and stuff is acidic milk and bottled water 9.5 pH may help if it does you know more about figuring it out get definitely try another doctor second opinion

Maybe inquire about her appendix with your Dr.?

Definitely get a second opinion. I don’t know why they haven’t referred her to a peds GI to at least clear your mind. Yes it could be minor anxiety but if Motrin is all that helps it could be an actual issue and shouldn’t just be written off without a second opinion.

Two things: allergies or cyclic vomiting syndrome. This is related to migranes. My son had this condition since he was about 2. It took years before I had a doctor listen. We were sent to a specialist. My husband took our son since it was 4 hours away and he could take the time off. I am glad he did since he knew of migranes in his family and I have no one on my side. It was broughtnon by excitement or excited anticipation for something happy happenkng in the near future. It was like a migrane of the stomach. I have allergies and now I know those stomach problems I had as a kid were mostly from allergens. Good luck.

It could be anxiety. That is a big reason kids complain about their tummy, because they don’t know how to explain how they really feel

I also second getting another opinion by a specialist. I would definitely look into taking dairy completely out of her diet for one to three months. Then seeing if that improves it.
Then I would switch and try gluten completely out of her diet for 1 to 3 months and see if that helps.

Go to a different pediatrician, when my daughter complained of stomach issues my pediatrician ordered tests, bloodwork, xrays, etc. If your pediatrician hasn’t done at least that, you need to find one who is willing to check for issues besides just saying diet and attention. A good pediatrician will refer you to a specialist if it persists and they are unable to figure it out through tests.

Have the doctor check her for ketones/sugar in her urine. My son would get excruciating belly pain and after 6 months of back n forth with the dr, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes

My daughter had major constipation issues, even though she had a BM every day. Switched her over to lactose free milk and instantly changed.

Second opinion always trust your child

I thought my son was complaining of chronic stomach pain to get out of school or avoid chores at home. It always seemed to happen at the same time. It turned out he had gastritis, they treated it with pepcid for 10 days and he was much better.

Get her gallbladder checked out. That is exactly what happened to my sister, and four years of that before she had it removed and completely recovered. I too had similar issues, and once it was removed I was fine.

Second opinion. Always trust your gut because a Mom knows their child better than any doctor.

Does she have a uti?

Depending on where her stomach pain is, you might want to consider getting her screened/tested for celiac disease. Excruciating stomach pain was one of my symptoms among a few other things, and the pain occurred every day after eating lunch on the left hand side under my rib bones in the intestine area. I couldn’t even walk standing up after eating a meal. I agree with seeking an assessment from a pediatric Gastroenterologist. .

My son did the same thing starting around 7 years old at times doubled over in pain missed lots of school and was finally diagnosed with IBS and put on a daily medication for that he’s almost 11 now and we dont do the medication any longer but have to be very careful with dairy products as it causes it to act up alot

This was me as a child it’s called stomach migraines

Does she complain of the pain the same days each week? If so it could very well be anxiety which is a hard thing to cope with when we are grown up but when it’s our kids it’s even harder. X

My daughter complained about stomach pain for over a year. I started paying attention to when she told me about it and i realized it was all nerves or “anxiety” i started trying to talk to her more about things, and preparing her for things that are coming and it has helped ALOT

My friend just had this happen to her son and found out he had appendicitis.

I would say a gastrointestinal specialist.

Anxiety caused mine as a kid. Had no clue until I was a teen

Anxiety, lactose or constipation?

Have her pediatrician refer her to a gastroenterologist.

Is it always after she has ate? If so maybe try gluten free stuff I have seen it help

That description fit me as a child. I had a hard time being perfect and let everything bother me. As an adult, I have been told I have systemic immune disorders and bad reactions to stress. My mother took me all over, when drs ideas didn’t pan out, she went to licorice, cola syrup, sassafras. Did not really get well till I tried CBD for chronic pain. Would NOT give to a young child unless her doctor agrees. Hope she feels weller soon so she can get to enjoy her childhood!

Could be anxiety/ stress related

I would put her on the BRAT Diet. Plus some Florastor to replace her good bacteria

My daughter had this when she was 3 . Saw many doctors. It was scary ruling out different things. Turns-out she is lactose intolerance. She is 31 today and still must watch what she eats.

Try going to see a gastrointestinal doctor. I’m sure if they can’t figure it out, they would point you in the right direction of who to talk to next. I had stomach pains as a kid all the way till now, no doctor could figure it out. I have to take Advil and lie down if it gets bad. I hope you find out what’s wrong! Good luck!!

There is probably something going on at school. I used to make myself throw up just so I wouldn’t have to go.

Is she pooping ok? She could be backed up really bad.

Is she being bullied?? And wanting to get out of school? I used to do this as a child! Good luck xx

My child had pain episodes with nausea and vomiting for years doctor said just diet constipation. Long story short when she turned 8 we did an ultrasound and she had upj obstruction and she needed surgery. I don’t know what your daughter has but try to keep notes of type of pain and how long it takes and stuff like that. Also request an ultrasound wouldn’t hurt. Good luck

Anxiety. My 6 year old has bad anxiety. Since early on and we did every single stomach test possible put him through everything only to find out its anxiety.

Anxiety can cause this. Also constipation.

Go to urgent care when she is in physical pain and see if they’ll do an ultrasound.
A referral to a gastroenterologist and/ or a dietitian wouldn’t hurt.
Write down when it happens. What she ate. See if there is a pattern. If its food or anxiety it might show you a lot.
Ask her how she feels about school, teachers, friends etc. In case she is being bullied or something.

Take her to a doctor

I believe you should ask for a referral to a pediatric GI doc. Meanwhile

you need to start a food diary of everything your daughter eats & a log of day, time, activity & where she is when your daughter’s pain occurs. Does it only happen at school? Is it always on the same day(s)? These are all things your doctor should ask & a record you can refer to it even just hand him at your appointment will help him with a diagnosis. Hope you get answers & a plan of action soon.
