My daughter has been having chest pain and we have gone to the doctor...advice?

I have a lot of chest pain and I would go to the ER and they said they can’t find anything and I decided to go to heart Dr and he told me the pain is the muscles in your chest

Possibly anxiety? Panic attacks? Take her to another ER for second opinion

Do you have a phone where you can download apps?
There are a few that are free to use too read your heart rate and oxygen levels. A couple of people that used this have actually had it calm them and slow their heart. You can also save the reading, so if it’s not normal, you can show the doctor. You

Could this be a panic attack? They’re very real and terrifying to experience when you’re young. The worst part about them is nobody usually believes you. Can you swing getting her a Fitbit? That would track her heart rate and bodily stress level.

Has she had a scan? Similar issues as a kid and it’s actual an issue with my ribs not a cardiac issue even though the symptoms presented as severed chest pain

That’s anxiety for sure Mamma.

Have you tried Praying WITH HER TO HELP HER RELAX AND trust GOD ???

Sounds like panic attacks

Maybe she is getting panic attacks bless her.

Panic or anxiety attack. Same thing happened to my daughter, 2 trips in 3 days to urgent care. They finally gave her a mild sedative and it stopped the episode. She is now on Zoloft and has rescue meds if needed, which she rarely needs.

Ultimately untreated panic attacks could lead to cardiac arrest or arrhythmia. I would try an anti anxiety medication. Breathing exercises only work if you are with her but until you know ALL of her triggers that won’t be as successful. It’s like telling an angry Mom to relax…?? The pills will re regulate her and then u can work on the breathing.

Have her identify 5 things she can see, 4 things she can hear, 3 things she can feel nd describe it, 2 things she can smell nd then have her explain if she can taste anything. I’m not sure if this is the correct order but when my friend used to have panic attacks id talk her through this lil drill nd it’d help her recognize she was okay. Over all, trust your gut mama. You got this💐

It sounds like she’s having full blown panic attacks. When mine started when I was a kid I didn’t know what they were and it scared me and chest pain and trouble breathing were part of it. Maybe try getting her into a therapist also.

Is it a panic attack? Has she found someone to talk to or a med to help?

Definitely sounds like panic/anxiety attacks. She may need meds or therapy to give her advice and exercises in how to cope with them.

Depending on her age, have you tried to call a cardiologist to do a tilt table test? She may have pots. I deal with those symptoms a lot and was diagnosed with pots syndrome. My chest hurts all the time and I get dizzy and feel faint a lot. A lot of times it’s missed because they just say I’m having a panic attack.

Severe anxiety attack. Watched my daughter go through this. Keep cardiology appointment and hope you find a GP that will take the anxiety seriously. It will help.

Sounds like what I get when I have a panic attack?

Definitely, anxiety. My daughter has the same trouble. Try giving her some water. Talk calmly to her and try to get her to calm down. This is some she’ll have to do for herself though. Figure out what causes this to come on. Sometimes a problem may seem small to you, but it’s big to them. Could even be stress related. Maybe talk more to her about what’s going on daily. Communication is a big key to keep anxiety or stress at bay. Good luck.

Update: my daughter did all the test need for heart problems too. Had episode at doctor office and sent to have ekg done. She also has hypoglycemia which doesn’t show up on test. That is a blood sugar level dropping at any time along with very high metabolism. It’s scary when you see them grab their chest and can’t breathe from anxiety. Like others said make sure not anything else though.

I don’t think it a anxiety or panic attack I have them. I also was doing the same thing she is doing and it was a hiatal hernia. For some reason they don’t think to look for that. I went to ER thinking I was having a heart attack because the pain was so bad and I couldn’t hardly breathe and they told me they couldn’t find anything wrong. The only way mine was found is because I went back to doctor for check up from having my gallbladder removed and while I was waiting in the waiting room it hit me and they thought I was having a heart attack and had the doctor to come and check on me and he knew exactly what was wrong but he said he wanted to go down with a scope and look to make sure and he was right. So take her to er and bring up the hiatal hernia and they have a drink that they can give that knocks the pain out. Good luck to her.

Sounds like anxiety mama ! My son who is 9 now did the same things, made a apt with cardio reassuring him everything was fine , the chest pains would scare by son so bad . Turns out it was celiac disease and as soon as we changed his diet his anxiety went away mostly .

Sounds like anxiety/panic attack. But still a good idea to take her to a cardiologist. Also maybe an EEG for the dizzy spells to check for silent seizures.

Panic attacks and anxiety attacks fit this description well. I have had them all of my life. She has to figure out her triggers but also there sometimes aren’t triggers.
I quit all caffeine two years ago and haven’t had one since. That means chocolate as well. I don’t wish this on anyone. I don’t take meds because I have had so many adverse reactions to them. Teach her meditation and learn some exercises and things she can do when an attack comes on. Look up tapping exercises. It’s where it takes her mind off of the attack and distracts her so to speak. She is now probably anticipating the next attack which can bring on another attack. If it is school in the way of high expectations for herself and fear of failure can be a trigger. If it’s a bully situation that can become quite triggering. My daughter started having seizures and that is the way her body reacts to stress.
Maybe consider a homeschooling program on line like Penn foster. It relieved a lot of stress on my daughter after her dad died.
Another tip when an attack comes on which helped me greatly, take a cold wet rag and put it on her chest when the attack comes on. Make sure it’s pretty cold. It kinda shocks her body and distracts her as well. Don’t leave on constantly. Just for a few minutes at a time. This really helped me. It gave my mind something else to focus on. Much luck to you both as you figure it out. But definitely get rid of caffeine.

Vaxxed and boosted. This will become the “norm” for all the compliers.

I have a medial condition called pots. My blood pressure and heart rate change with positions. I get a lot of chest pain and dizziness. Has there been a full work up done?

I wouldn’t wait until October, but my daughter has a congenital heart defect so I’m extremely cautious with all of my children.

Personally, I would take her to an er next time, during the episode if possible. Preferably one that has a pediatric cardiologist on staff.

I would also be keeping a journal of date, time, duration, symptoms of each event.

Further, I would not give her certain medications such a those that contain a decongestant.

Could it be anxiety? Yes, could it be reflux? Yes could it be something else? Yes BUT they only way to really know is to have her evaluated by a medical professional. Because what if it’s not any of those “innocent” things??

To me it sounds like panic/anxiety attacks.

Ask for cardio referral and get her on a monitor for like 30days so they can track everything

I’d certainly follow up with the cardiologist but sounds a lot like the panic/anxiety attacks that I get

Could very well be anxiety, but has she had a CT scan to look at her chest?

She might be having asthma attacks or anxiety attacks.

Could she be having panic attacks?

Sounds like a severe panic Attack
Anxiety .It can make you feel like you are dying very scary

Sounds like an anxiety attack.

Try a weighted blanket it might help

It sounds like she’s having panic attacks. Maybe get her into see a therapist. Try to pin point what’s bothering her and triggering these and help her learn to manage it.

Sounds like a panic attack

Panic/Anxiety attacks…my nephew got help at 11 yrs old with therapy and prozac.

Sounds like panic or anxiety attacks had them bad you literally feel like you are dying and has real physical symptoms except they aren’t harmful

Anxiety… definitely get her checked by cardiologist. How old is she?

Does she suffer from anxiety? This sounds like panic attacks. This is how I feel every time I’m in large crowds with my kids. I always swear I’ll die before it’s over. But I don’t. Anxiety can be debilitating. Perhaps talk to the pcp about getting her to a counselor?

Talk to cardiologist about possible “POTS” Postural tachycardia Syndrome. My friend’s daughter dealt with this for sometime before they were able to identify the issue. I hope she has a good day today. The drs always told her was anxiety attacks.

Sounds like it could be costochondritis which is inflammation of the cartilage that attaches your ribs to your sternum. It is very painful but can be treated.

Could very well be panic/anxiety attacks, im 31 with three kids and I would say once every couple months I am at the ER with severe chest pains, and I get myself so worked up I literally believe I am dying and I literally believe the doctors and tests are missing something. I also suffer from extreme gerd, I’ve been told it’s that, it’s inflammation of the cartilage in between my breast bone and rib cage, and I’ve been told since I am a smoker It’s due to needing a breathing treatment, both the gerd and inflammation I’ve been on meds for and it always worked. But anxiety/panic/stress cause chest pain as well. And if You have health anxiety it can cause major meltdowns when you believe something is seriously wrong. I would start with someone who can give you more info on the anxiety and panic first if it continues after that then I would go see the cardiologist, they can do more for her than just going to the ER.

Sounds like what my son was explaining/feeling and we found out he has asthma. Ask her Dr to refer you to a pediatric pulmonary specialist. If she has chest pain and trouble breathing it could cause her to panic and cause anxiety. I hope you can get it figured out soon, sending my love 🩷🩷

My son went through this for years several er visits, drs, they had him labeled as a hypochondriac! It was finally diagnosed it’s called Pots disease look it up!

Your daughter is having anxiety attacks. It makes your chest hurt. You need to find out what is upsetting her . School , friends being bullied. Any number of things.

Sounds like a panic attack

People need to realize that ER and urgent care are to stabilize you until you get to your primary care. Primary should refer to a cardiologist. Keep pushing until you get answers.

Panic attack. They’re awful. Have her try sticking her face in ice water. It might help

My son went through this at 12. Took him to the doctor he had high blood pressure and it ended up being aortic stenosis. He had to have heart surgery. my son apparently had this his whole life and the doctors never found it till then. Get your child’s blood pressure checked.

Age? Symptoms? Panic attacks, something she ate or drank or took, overweight, high cholesterol?? Really needs to see good Dr. And have test ran…

It sounds like she’s having panic attacks, but I would suggest that if you have a children’s hospital nearby to go to the ER there. It’s better to be safe than sorry

Sounds like an anxiety attack

Have her check for functioning neurotic disorder my granddaughter has some situations and that’s what she was diagnosed with just just throwing that out there

How old is said daughter? That can have a lot to do with the treatment they will use.

As a kid I had acid reflux. But when it flared up, I would have a panic attack because it felt like there was something stuck in my throat. Took a LONG time to get the correct diagnosis. Try OTC acid pills for kids, or look up the list of acid triggering foods/drinks and try to cut them out.

Did she have the covid shot .Research what it does

Hope things get better im dealing w my older special needs daughter a7ma cough two main doc trips n two urget care doc still trying give her meds she alleric to u can try tri cites heart doc

Sounds like anxiety but could also be a myocardial bridge…I have this and all those symptoms but it is triggered by anxiety

Purchased a pulse oximeter. you can buy one on Amazon. It will tell you what her oxygen level is as well as her HR. If you want to go a step further get a wrist blood pressure machine. Write down the dates and times of the episodes and at the very least you as a parent have her vital signs. Of course if she’s having a hard time her blood pressure and heart rate can increase but it shouldn’t be an exaggerated number. Good luck momma.

Having personally experienced multiple panic and anxiety attacks due to stress AND having gone to ER multiple time for said attacks with all of these symptoms I would recommend that you follow thru with Pediatric Cardio but also recommend researching and seeking assistance for these symptoms as well.
I was an adult in my mid 30’s when I began having these and I was never a high stress person.

Ask her if her heart feels like it’s racing or check her pulse when this happens

It’s sounds like panic attacks… does she suffer from anxiety?

Sounds like she has anxiety attacks

Vocal Cord Dysfunction? Does it happen when she’s playing or working out? It’s what my daughter was diagnosed with after being diagnosed wrong. I took her to a specialist. She kept having chest pains almost to the point of passing out.

Sounds like panic attacks. Is she stressed out about something? Keep track of what is going on when this happens.

Sounds like anxiety/panic attacks? Did she have a covid vacation? Some Children/teens are having side effects. Myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle can be serious. I would definitely see the cardiologist. Good luck!

Kinda sounds like anxiety attacks

I used to go to the ER a lot with chest pains and shortness of breath and they kept saying there’s nothing wrong
two years ago now I got sent to a cardiologists, and he diagnosed me intermittent sinus tachycardia the right side of my chamber decides to stop working cause is my heart rate to beat really fast It last may be a minute and goes away as quickly as it starts.
It’s extremely hard to diagnose because they have to diagnose it when it’s actually happening. Unfortunately, it can happen in a minute and go away just as quick.

Could be gullblader or SVT

Did she get the COVID vax? If so get a referal/ appt with cardiologist. Chest pain can be not enough oxygen to heart, heart inflammation ( vax is know for this as a side effect), blood clot. Can be deadly. If she is saying this believe her.

My adult daughter was having that problem we had 1 ER tell her she needed a message.
We took her to a different ER and they said they couldn’t find anything wrong. I informed them she has a bone marrow disease and that she just had some teeth pulled. The ER Dr. Said " Well that changes everything. He ran a blood test and found she had endocarditis!!! A infection surrounding her heart.
She was then admitted to the Hospital on antibiotics through a picc line to her heart. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks. And had to go back every day for 30 days and get antibiotic infusions through a picc line.

Sorry to hear that your daughter is having a hard time, sounds like panic attacks to me , but i’m not a doctor.Good luck.

Sounds like she is having panic attacks

My oldest had this when she was 6-7. We waited to see the Cardiologist, I would call and ask them to put you on a wait list Incase of any cancellations. If the other doctors do not see anything alarming, I would wait and see. My daughter started having panic attacks when the pain started. Since I suffer from anxiety, I taught her some tricks to calm down and assured her I believed her 100%. Come to find out my daughter’s chest wall was going through a growth spurt, and the cardiologist assured me that some children do experience the pain. Which can scare them. He told me to give her ibuprofen and told her to rest when she feels the pain. After a couple months it went away :slightly_smiling_face:, I know it’s easier said than done. Try to relax and wait for the cardiologist, unless you see new symptoms and definitely call and get on the wait list for a cancellation.

Sounds like mold toxicity. . Does it only happen in one place? Check around where she usually likes to stay for mold

Panic attacks. I have them. They’re Hell!!!

Is she old enough to be on birth control? If she is on it. It can cause issues too.
Mine was triggered by it.

Sounds a lot like Costochondritis. Costochondritis - Symptoms & causes - Mayo Clinic

Try breathing into a small brown paper bag. U could be hyperventilating.

This sounds like a full blown panic attack/anxiety attack. Don’t be dismissive of what she’s telling you just because doctors are. Set up a therapy appointment and an appointment with a psychiatrist. I know when I get my full blown attacks I’m dizzy/lightheaded and I feel like I’m having a heart attack and I’ll look I’m functioning fine while walking etc BECAUSE what we’re going thru is on the inside not the outside. Seriously tho try therapy and a psychiatrist

This is a classic panic attack. Skip the cardiologist and contact a psychiatrist.

It could be psycho somatic .a psychiatrist maybe ???

I was diagnosed with anxiety at 21 years old even though I had it since grade school. What finally led my diagnosis was me having episodes were I was just sitting around doing nothing and suddenly I couldn’t breathe. I thought it was my asthma until they sat me down and explained how anxiety works. That was 7 years ago so it wasn’t as talked about as it is now. I started on medication and became a whole different person. I eventually stopped having the “episodes” randomly although I still struggle occasionally. The attacks can come on from thoughts but also can come on randomly even during happy moments. Personally therapy didn’t help me but I know some people try to stay away from meds. I’m pro meds personally because I know how I feel without them. Some people can learn ways to overcome the need for meds but some people are wired that way and that’s ok. I can see in the comments that many people are willing to attest that she is not alone. Good luck momma your baby will be okay

My son got/ sometimes still gets terrible stomach aches that he said physically hurt him. We had him sent for allergy tests and all different things. He has anxiety. It sucks that kids so small have stuff to get anxious about. I also get anxiety but I bite the skin on my fingers xx

Do you have a pulse oximeter? A lot of the time when my daughter feels like this she is having tachycardia which is an increased heart rate and that can make her feel like she cannot breathe and gives her a lot of anxiety. She does have a confirmed case of neuropathic POTS so I do think you should keep the cardiologist appt but make sure the cardiologist is one that is familiar with dysautonomia and other types of heart issues. Some of them just want to deal with regular heart care and don’t think EDS or pots are even credible diagnoses. We had a full tilt table study done to confirm and ruled out a whole bunch of autoimmune issues before hand. Definitely start monitoring heart rate during these episodes along with oxygen saturation with a pulse ox so you can at least see if her heartbeat is elevated which will also make her feel dizzy and nauseous.

Is it possible that she has anxiety/panic attacks? These symptoms seem similar to mine when I have anxiety or a panic attack

Sounds like it’s related to anxiety and possibly panic attacks at times. I would suggest talking to her in an understanding way to see if she wants to talk about anything. Consider if she has anything going on in her home life or at school as well. I would mention it to her doctor too. Maybe the school counselor could be one of the first steps in helping her. If that don’t help, maybe therapy with an actual therapist or depending on her age possible medication to help.

I had same thing but with burning pain, almost like a heart attack, also hard to breathe laying down made it worse…they took my gallbladder out, then figured out I have real bad acid reflux an anything can trigger it, they gave me meds to take every morning for it an watch what I eat, have to not stress out my muscles around my chest, getting to hot with set it off… so many factors to watch for

This sounds like a very bad anxiety attack, I’ve had them and her symptoms mimic mine to a T! I was rushed by ambulance thinking I was having a heart attack! I had every test you can name, my heart was and is fine, anxiety can do a number on us, they absolutely make you have shortness of breath, chest pains, tingling arms/ hands, tightening of the throat " airways" by no means am I diagnosing your daughter, I’m just describing what my anxiety was like which is exactly like hers

Sounds like panic attacks.

I have Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It took 7 years for a diagnosis. No one believed anything was wrong with me, even several cardiologists, until it was almost too late. I have several of the symptoms you listed. I’m not trying to scare you, just giving an idea of something to look up if you don’t think this is a panic attack. Love & prayers!

Sounds just like a panic attack…there are different techniques that can be used to help relieve the symptoms.

Pls believe her…im having the same issue and it was all of a sudden now i have episodes all the rime and they have tried to say its all in my head…believe me its not xx

My oldest son started having episodes just like this after a tough break up. He was constantly saying there was something wrong with his heart, but taking him to the doctors proved not. He was having bad anxiety after the break up. Really hard, but after a few months he got over it. It’s been over 2 1/2 years and no issues.

Sounds like maybe anxiety

It sounds like the anxiety I’ve been dealing with for over 20 years. I would suggest finding some breathing and grounding techniques. Talking to someone about what’s going on in her head may help too. I would still keep the cardiologist appointment because they are confident my anxiety is what caused my hypertension arrhythmia. Maybe they could help to keep it from causing further damage

Does she have anxiety? Sounds like it. Try Epsom salt baths & or magnesium gummies or spray it helped my daughter with sleep & anxiety so much! Change of scenery too when the episodes are happening take her on a calming walk just you two if possible you don’t want to keep her in the place she’s having it but you don’t want her around a bunch of people either if it is anxiety

See cardiologist as soon as possible to rule out heart problem. Could be something she has eaten that causes heartburn or possibly pluracy but would not delay in being checked by cardiologist.

She has long Covid Dysautonomia
More than likely. Have her do breathing exercises (like a guided meditation that has you focus on breath). Many adults report that their body seems to “forget” to breath and they have to focus on taking breaths and that this comes and goes and they feel like they are under water.
I have tachycardia (rapid beat) and high blood pressure from my last infection six months ago. But not all chest pain shows up in an easy way to assess. The virus can attack the protective sac around the heart or the vessels can become inflamed. It’s so complex. We figured out mine is is a connection with stomach acid & heart function so I’m on fomodadine to help with the stomach acid.
