We use strawberry syrup for our son. Hes on 5mg of meds so we add strawberry syrup and make it close to 10 mg I think

My son was the same way til recently. Hes almost 6 now. Didn’t matter what i tried to put it in or bribe him with he’d spit it out or puke it up even if i gave no indication of me giving him medicine. He always knew 🤷🤷 eventually it gets better is all i can say

My 2 have tried that. I’ve had to lay them down, hold their nose till they opened their mouth, squirt it into the back of the cheek & blow. If u mix it in food or drink & they don’t finish what u put it in, then u don’t know how much of it they actually got. Maybe I’m just harsh, but I would rather know how much they got then risk them not getting enough to help them get better. They have finally learned it’s easier to just open h swallow. They are 2 & 5

Well fevers are actually beneficial to a certain point. It’s better not to give medicine for it at all unless it’s super high. It’s a misconception that it has to be treated as soon as it starts getting a little high. Sooo my advice is if you absolutely must give it, then mix with some juice or water. Also look into elderberry syrup and homeopathic remedies instead of Tylenol, Motrin, etc. good luck !

Bribes. Or put it in juice or something he likes to drink

My 2 year old is the same way! The only way I can get pain/fever reducer in him is by using a suppository. It’s called Fever All & it works wonders! Also, they make patches you can put on their forehead to help with fevers… they are called cool patch. Both can be bought at walmart!

Use the syringe and pointed to the back of his cheek. Do it a little bit at a time if he’s prone to spitting it out but sometimes it’s easiest to do it fast.

We have tried the mixing it thing and sometimes that ruins favorite foods. I’ve also put it in their drink before. Just don’t fill the cup too much because they need to drink it all to get the full dose of meds.

With some kids, you have to hold them and make them take it otherwise.

I used to explain, and say they could have a popsicle after to get rid of yucky taste

Blow on face, natural reaction is to swallow

I’d have to sit practically on them open there mouth and shoot it down there throats and then pinch there nose I know it sounds barbaric but that’s the only way I could do it, they’d spit it out and then run away

Someone told me to try dipping a dumdum sucker in to the medicine.

My 16 month old loves meds lol but I’d suggest putting It in chocolate milk or juice

I give tiny bits at a time. My daughter will throw it up.

Choclate syrup its the fix all i swear by it put his meds in a spoon put the syrup on top and let him lick it off

Mix it with some juice! That’s how I got my kids to take meds

My kids have the opposite problem, they think it’s like a snack and keep asking for more lol

My son was the same way
One day it just switched and he takes it like a champ. Try different flavors. Like ibuprofen my kids love the berry and bubblegum flavors.

I don’t give fever reducers. But for antibiotics I would mix them with yogurt. My daughter didn’t get flavored yogurts really so she thought it was a huge treat and would eat every bite.

What advice does you GP give?? Is baby allergic to the meds…apart from that, I always found to hide it in ice cream, custard, or mashed banana, or a favourite food, that’s malleable, worked a treat. Don’t let him see you “doctoring” his food, or mention the word medicine. All will be well…

I got that binki to do the medicine with and it goes to the side of their mouths!! It works great for my kiddos

Mix with applesauce or applejuice

Hey kid do you like going yo the Drs? This is how it goes you can be a big kid and take your medicine, and fight about it or spit it out. Oh yes this another option, we can go get a shot in your bottom every time you need your medicine. So suck it up buddy, open up your mouth and get thid over. No if ands and butts. Unless you paddle it when they act up. I took mine no problems because I knew what would happen. I never had a problem with mine you just took it and it was over.

Juice I give mine there’s n juice

Try suppositories. My 2 year old refuses medicine and he would spit it out or choke if I forced it. His doc suggested them, and they work like a charm.

Hide a syringe of medicine behind a freezer, it apparently works

My 2 and 4 year old love the chewables. Their favorite is the bubblegum flavored chewables. As far as syringe goes I bought extra ones and made them dr kits with a syringe and cleaned out medicine bottle filled with water bandaids chapstick etc. And convinced them I’d only be a good patient and take my medicine if they took theirs first. If they took theirs I would fake cough and say I didn’t feel good and ask if there were any doctors could make mama all better  they would go crazy for the chance to use their special dr kits that I only brought out if they took their medicine

Hold a sucker in one hand… hold medicine in the other… say take this and you get the sucker and they taste the medication for like .3 seconds and happy they got the sucker :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Most pharmacies can mix meds with flavoring.

Put it in Apple sauce or pudding

My child had similar issues. Hide the medicine in about 2 ounces of juice. Watch CLOSELY to ensure its finished. I usually use a sippy cup and their favorite juice. Worked every time.

Get a strong flavored yogurt. Even a sweet one is fine when you’re Th is desperate. Get a child’s chewable dose, cut it down in half, quarter etc… whatever doer you need. Crush it up really fine with the back of a spoon. Mix it in the yogurt. Even if you just pull about 3 heaping spoons out of the cup and put it in a bowl. My son wouldn’t always want the whole yogurt so I had to improvise so he’d get the full dose.

My son is 3 and has completely refused liquid medicine since he was about 6 months old. He had the flu and we gave him some ibuprofen for fever. He spit it out and then the downfall happened. They gave him tamiflu and he would scream and spit it out or completely overwork himself crying to avoid it. We talked to the doc and he gave us dosage for chewables. So if he has needed Tylenol or benadryl (which has only been once or twice since he was 6 months old) we give chewables. I would ask you doc if that is an option for your little one.

Put it in his cup with some juice! He will never know it’s there

What I do with my 15 m old is on him down, squeeze his cheeks and use the syringe and inject it in the back of his mouth behind his cheek to where he can’t spit it out

They have sippy cups with hidden medicine dispensers

My two year old will drink anything out of a juice pack straw. I put the straw in the medicine cup and she drank it all up. It’s so easy now. I hope this helps. My other two also hated medicine. I’m glad this one is easier.

I tried all sorts of “magic tricks” with my daughter when it came to medicines in the end up it results to having an almost 2 year old pinned to the floor cheeks squeezed and medicine zapped into the back of her mouth can’t spit it out so she has to swallow  always ends with yummy so I get exited thinking oh if it’s yummy maybe next time won’t be as hard but she lied :rofl::rofl:

My son has always had an oral aversion to liquid meds, puddings, jellos, etc… at 3 he learned how to swallow pills. He hates liquid meds that much. They make him gag.

My daughter is the same way we can never give her medicine she throws it up from crying and knows how to gargle it to where it doesn’t go down. We literally have tried every method possible.

Take a juice box. Cut out hole in back. Put in medicine in the little cup. Put straw through it all

One of my children was a micro preemie and once home required a lot of medication and horrible tasting vitamins. I stared letting him pick a small sugary candy to eat right after to help get the taste of the medication out if his mouth. It worked, he still gagged a bit, but it stayed down.

I agree with kelt Mae smith

I mix medicine into a half can of Sprite and put a straw in it. My girls aren’t allowed to have pop every day and never turn down an opportunity to drink one :joy:

Mix in her favorite liquid, chill well then just give it to her and walk away like its no big deal.
