My OBGYN said they saw no heartbeat, but then saw flutters: Advice?

I went to the ob-gyn today. They did an ultrasound Wednesday and said there was no heartbeat. Well, today I went back, and on the screen, the ultrasound tech said they saw 2 flutters of the heart, but that was is, so she marked it down as no heartbeat.

If you are indeed having a mis carriage, you need to go
For blood work daily to make sure your HGC levels are going down.
Sorry for your loss.

I don’t understand what your question could be?

So there is still a baby in your womb? I would keep going back. It could still be too early for a heartbeat, but one forming.

I would request blood work. Your HCG levels could help deterning what’s going on

How far along are you? My OBGYN refused any ultrasounds before 10 weeks because it can be more difficult to hear the heartbeat and can scare mom.

Agree with other post. They should check your blood levels every few days

Get a second opinion, go take another ultrasound goodluck!:black_heart:

Bloodwork, second opinion

Req blood work…and repeat scans…we could see squat with my son until nearly 8.5 weeks.

At 8 weeks my obgyn said they dont listsn for a heartbeat with the ultrasound but I forget the reasoning. They look for heartbeat with the doppler at 11 weeks.

I would get a second opinion asap. Go to ER and have them do another ultrasound. Maybe even get a baby heartbeat monitor to check at home as well.

How far along are you? I wouldn’t worry about it if you are less than 10-11 weeks because it can be very hard to pick up a heartbeat early on using the ultrasound & even longer using the Doppler

Maybe too early?? I had to do a repeat because they couldn’t find a heart beat either

Not sure where you guys are all from… but here in Canada they use a wand and they have detected all my babies heartbeats at only 6 weeks…

How far a long are you? I went in at 7 weeks and all it was, was flutters. Go get a second opinion if you are around that age

Are you very early???

I think she is wondering if there is Hope because of the flutters. I just don’t know why an OB would tell you that & not give you more info/tell you what the next steps are. Definitely second opinion

I can’t believe your OBGYN didn’t give you more advice or direction. That’s horrible.

My obgyn didn’t check for a heartbeat till 12 weeks she said it was because baby is so small that before that uts hard to tell. She just goes by hcg levels before that mark

I know someone who was told no heartbeat and their child is 27

Get a second opinion. Get some bloodwork done to check ur levels, and go to a different doctor. If your less the 12 weeks, maybe wait…take it easy, and re do the ultrasound.
I’m.sending prayers.

I’d request HCG bloodwork and a repeat blood draw in 48 hours to see if it goes up

My thoughts are with you. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I have no advice as every pregnancy is different and body.
Go to the E.R, maybe they can give you your answer. :slightly_frowning_face:

I would go to a new doctor and request blood work. My first doctor said i was having twins after not being able to find my 6 month old. Then told me my HCG levels were not where they should be but they were. Smh i switched doctors not all of them are good or smart.

No heartbeat or positive test until 9 weeks… She’s now 5.5.

Get a second opinion. My drs (3 different ones 3 pregnancies) said they cant see a heartbeat on ultrasound until 12 weeks

Irregular is still alive

Do they have you on weekly HCG bloodwork draws? The due date might not be accurate and you are earlier in pregnancy than you think. I would go to a new OBGYN personally.

Flutters are all you see at first I would get a second opinion. Seems like you’re progressing in the right direction since there were flutters today that means babe is growing! I would 110% get a second opinion

They should always do a hcg blood draw!! That’s nuts! If they couldn’t find a heart beat they should check the HCG levels and the next time you come in see where they are! You for sure need a different doctor!

I’m from Canada. I have 3 babies my last one I was 38 and at 6 weeks there was no heart beat. I didn’t even know I was pregnant as I was still bleeding. I was so heart broken, They did another at 8 weeks and there was a strong heart beat. My other two where boys and they had heart beats at 6 weeks.

Go for another opinion. Unless you are bleeding or cramping there is no reason to believe its a miscarriage. I had 11 week miscarriage. I had spotting went in no heartbeat, next day visit to confirm, then day 3 I passed the baby.

Get bloodwork and a 2nd opinion before you schedule a D&C

I’d advise trying to getting a second opinion and suggesting another ultrasound at 8-9 weeks! At 6 weeks they counted me as well with my baby not having a heartbeat but she clearly was fluttering on the ultrasound. They scheduled me another ultrasound at 9-10 weeks to see if my body had miscarried or not, I firmly believed that my daughter was alive regardless of what they had told me. Go with your gut and blessed be with good luck

Wait till 8-9 weeks. Do not make any decisions right now. And get a new doctor ASAP. A second opinion will not hurt you!

If it happens to be that there is no heartbeat I am so very sorry. I have gone through two missed miscarriages where the heart stopped. My heart goes out to you.

Definitely need a second opinion  best vibes to you

You maybe too early to detect a heartbeat for my first ultrasound my o.b told me not to worry if we didn’t see a heartbeat cuz I found out super early I was pregnant give it a few days to about 2 weeks and you’ll know for sure

I most def would hang tight a couple weeks and go from there but :woman_shrugging:

Get tests from another radiologist who knows what they are doing

second opinon only because a co.worker was told no heartbeat and she felt in her heart and symptoms it was wrong. sure enough they were wrong he is a healthy boy

Get a second opinion! My moms dr said there was no heartbeat and she went in for the miscarriage procedure they checked the heartbeat for shits & giggles and there was one! She ended up carrying out the pregnancy and having a healthy baby :two_hearts:

How far along you are right now matters.

You need to have your hcg levels drawn every other day for a week to see if they’re doubling like they’re supposed to. You also need a new ultrasound, preferably a vaginal one if you’re still early in your pregnancy. That will get them a better picture and make it easier to note cardiac activity. The heart doesn’t stop then suddenly flutter. Something doesn’t make sense here.

Too early . Just wait mama  go back at 10 weeks. Unless in pain and bleeding then go in .

Go to the emergency room. They should do some testing

Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. I have read and heard sooo many stories where women were told no heartbeat for numerous appointments! Even all throughout a pregnancy not hearing it once and baby born healthy. Do not do a DNC. Sometimes the placenta is attached in a way it makes it impossible or unlikely to hear heartbeat at each sono. Sometimes it’s the uterus. Sometimes we don’t know why. Do NOT just do a DNC. Just pray and wait. Give it lotssss of time. I have a friend who they didn’t hear it at 2 appts and then would. I had same exact issue at 8 weeks no heartbeat. He said we can wait and see if we find it next time and then DNC (scrape everything out) or you let your body miscarriage naturally when it’s ready. I read for a week soooo many stories of women being told no heartbeat and then having a perfectly healthy baby!!! So I knew I have to just pray and wait and I knew I wouldn’t do a DNC I would wait and let it happen naturally if it would. I naturally miscarried at 12 weeks. At home. I didn’t see fetus come out thankfully I think it stopped forming early or kind of absorbed back into things. I did deliver placenta and amniotic sac entact and lots of clots. I went to dr. the following month or that month and requested a sonogram just to make sure everything was cleared out before getting pregnant again. My advice is pray and wait and just give it time. If you google this you will see SO many stories of ppl being told that even throughout their entire pregnancy only to have a healthy baby. Do not let heartbeat alone tell you whether to dnc etc. I so hope you are one of the many women who they just miss it at certain appts or it’s almost impossible to find and your baby is perfectly healthy. Give him or her every chance, have faith. :yellow_heart::yellow_heart::yellow_heart: I had a miscarriage between my 1st and 2nd daughter. But reading allllll those stories of women where the drs were wrong just let me to decide not to do anything let it occur naturally if it would.

I was 7 weeks. We couldn’t see a baby. Just a sac. And few flutters on the screen at 7 weeks. My sons 7 months old today. I have also had 4 other miscarriages before having him.

I’d get a 2 opinion on it sorry but it can be wrong

Theres not enough info on this post…how far along are you and what did the dr advise?? Are you having cramping or bleeding ??

I feel like any doctor that would allow you to leave after two visits with out clearly letting you know if you have miscarried needs to immediately be fired. Go to a different practitioner and get a second opinion

How far along are you?

My daughters couldn’t be heard or picked up until about 13-14 weeks due to she was push back more than average pregnancy due to the way my cervix and sac was etc. the placenta was in front I guess. We got flutters around 6 weeks and up until 14 weeks it was always off and on. I would hold off and get second opinion or wait a few weeks. If there’s no bleeding yet etc I would wait to assume the worse.

What they had me do was go weekly to take blood to check my levels to make sure they were rising until they finally could get heartbeat and at that the whole 9 months it was always in and out depending her position

Please wait a few more weeks and get a second opinion!

Don’t give up! A friend of mine went in for a check up ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. At her follow up appointment same, and they scheduled her DNC. When she went to that appointment she begged for one more ultrasound and miracle…her baby’s heartbeat was strong and fast!

I agree with everyone else. Get second opinion.

Need another ultrasound. Could be too early. Happened with me

Wait a few more weeks. I went to the ER in the beginning of my pregnancy and was told the Yolk sac wasn’t as big as it should be so don’t get my hopes up. My daughter just turned one. Have faith, good luck.:heart:

My ob doesnt even check for heartbeat until 12 weeks. I would wait for sure

I was told two different times there was no baby and no heart beat but this baby 5 for me and I had been thru a miscarriage and it didn’t feel like one so I ignored the Dr. My numbers were increasing and everything else seemed fine. I’m glad I did because some seeing a specialist he saw a perfectly healthy baby and a nice strong heartbeat. I now have a very active 19 month old little boy. Follow your instinct and get a follow up ultrasound with a specialist

At 6 weeks my ob didn’t see a heartbeat or flutters. Went in the next week and there was a heartbeat. It sounded like a house running. Perfect heartbeat. He’s now a healthy 3 yr old. Get another ultrasound done. I was only 17 and was told it could be a miscarriage and my heart broken but he’s still here and he’s a crazy silly little boy

Would have been helpful to include how far along you are. I would follow the advice of your doctors which hopefully were specific to your situation.

Early pregnancy I was carrying my daughter so low they couldn’t pick up a heart beat or anything and thought it was ectopic. I was really early though.

Just wait if god needs your bundle of joy for an angel he will take it for his choir. It not it will thrive. Pray. And eat healthy.

Go get a second opinion… That is one of the best ways to find out…

I was told there was no heartbeat with my daughter…They told me I was having a miscarriage. They told me to go home and let nature take its course… to come back in 2 weeks so they could do an Ultrasound to verify everything went like it should… when i went back they found a heartbeat… my daughter will be 10 tomorrow…

Definitely get a second opinion on it even third if you need to. I am so sorry for what you’re going through. I went through this with my first son. He was my rainbow baby but even with him they saw no heartbeat so I got sent home basically to miscarry because there was nothing they can do. I kept getting further into the pregnancy and then i went and seeked different opinion and my son was in there perfectly healthy. Now im not trying to scare you by my story nor promise everything is fine but I would seek another opinion personally. How far along are you though? Do you have any signs of cramping badly, any blood or cloths? I know I’m a stranger and you don’t know me but If you want to talk or vent my PM is always opened for a chat im like basically the sleepless person. I hope everything is okay and that you and the baby are doing well.
