My ten year old started her period, do people still use pads?

My daughter is 10 yrs old. I think she has started going through puberty. I feel stupid but are girls still using maxi pads? (The thinner ones) is there a video or book we can refer too?

Hey there, it is actually recommended that girls us pads. I know that there are products out there that are made for young girls/teens that are smaller and more discreet for them to us at school. A quick Google search will help you find these products

Such an awkward time for a teenage girl. My niece got her period last year sometime, she’s using pads. It’s the easiest way to introduce to them to all of that stuff lol.

Almost 32, I’ve always used pads. I can’t stand the feeling of tampons.

At such a young age, pads.

I use pads and I’m 36 so :woman_shrugging: I use always ultra thin with wings but I would get something bigger for her probably. Something with wings

I use maxi pads. I could never do tampons personally

I use pads. Only because I just had a baby and couldn’t use tampons for a while but then I got used of pads again :woman_facepalming:t2: but I always buy the always I think? Regular size. Or the teen ones for my daughter r

I use pads as an adult. Thin ones maybe more comfortable on her but you may have to try a few different brands until you find ones she likes.

My daughter started hers at 11 1/2. She uses thin overnights. We buy the Walmart version. They work just as good at the fraction of the price.

Yep pads are still in lol, that’s all I use.

Yes of course nothing wrong with pads , they make thin small ones for younger girls

I still use them at 30. Not able to use tampons :sob: my 14 year old sister uses the sports pads

I hated using pads when I first got my period, i didnt use tampons til I was 18 lol

Washable cloth pads are getting more popular these days, as are silicon menstrual cups.

Yes! I’m in my 30’s and I use pads…look for the teen pads…always has some pretty good ones and so does Kotex

My sister uses pads. So i think u should use that .

I have 3 teenage daughters 14-12-10 and we all just use pads! They are too young for tampons

Pads are all I’ll ever used. Tampons are too dangerous. I only use always brand maxi pads

I use pads, have been for years. I actually use reusable pads. They had a wide variety of choices, sizes, styles and they last forever.

A girl as young as 10 should not start out using tampons. Thin pads should be fine

They have teen pads I mean I know she’s not a teen yet but it’s appropriate for her especially just starting out.

I wouldn’t let a 10 year old wear tampons

Young girls seem to be more comfortable with pads. Ask her which she would prefer and explain the proper use of each. A new trend seems to be the menstrual cup. I know nothing of these. My days of needing supplies is long over.

Pads for beginners and then eventually if she’s comfortable I would suggest tampons. There are also period underwear that you can buy and you don’t need either pad or tampon.

My mom gave me the option of what I wanted. However my step mom wouldn’t let me use tampons when I was visiting my dad in the summers. I appreciate my mom giving me the option. Not everyone is comfortable with the same thing. I tried both and I didn’t like that I felt like when I was at school when I would stand or sit someone could smell it. Mind you I started when I was 8 and a half. But I think it’s to each their own. I’m glad I had the option

Use pads until they’re comfortable using tampons

Teen always are good too.

Always infinity flex foam are the best ones

It’s all my daughter uses! Look into period panties also. We got some on Amazon. They’ve been a lifesaver.

I’ve been using pads since i was 10, I’m now 39.

They have “teen” pads she can try until she’s comfortable with tampons.

Tampons aren’t safe at all. I would use pads for the time being until she is older.

I use them because I have a very light flow

I use them :woman_shrugging:t2:no shame and she should not use tampons yet until she comfortable with them as she gets older. I’m 30 and still only use tampons when my pad isn’t enough for my flow

Yes mama, girls that age definitely should be using pads. I still do at night!

I use pads. I feel more comfortable using pads. I assume girls her age would feel comfortable using pads.

I personally love the always radiant or infinity flex form pads. I hate tampons.

Our local library was a great resource for information

My daughter uses pads and period panties

Yes they don’t make minis anymore but he the regular ultra thin not longs are the best to start off with

I started with pads as a young girl. Give her some options, there’s pads, tampons, period undies, menstrual cups… so many options. Im using a cup now and i love it, for years i hated my period, worrying that i would leak through a pad. Now im using a cup i dont even think about it. They’re amazing

A book? They work the same way they always did……

My daughter is 10 and uses infinity flex foam.

Ask her what she want to do but if she is going to use tampons make sure she at home the first day to make sure she doesn’t have a reaction ( make sure you express changing them frequently to avoid toxic shock !!) or the cups which I prefer a lot of people do way easier you don’t have to change as much as they don’t have any chemicals in them all and all she is ten and that’s little but she needs to have a choice it will effect her at school and her every day even sleeping ps good luck

I do No need to feel like that. I know since girls use tampons. But pads are more safe. Get the period underwear for her. They have them with the pads. So that she don’t feel embarrassed even she has a accident

I only use tampons if I’m going out lol other than that I use a pad. It’s safer and less to worry about in my eyes.

I use pads. Every woman is different when it comes to what they like. I like the long pads and not the ones with wings. I never tried tampons, I was afraid that the string would break. I have two sisters and both tried tampons, one would use them all the time because she didn’t like thick pads or she would use a tampon and a thin pad, just a thin pad. The other sister used unscented pads.

Pads until u can get those new period undies, apparently they r wonderful.

My daughter started at 10 and I just bought her pads until she was 13 and she decided she wanted tampons and now she’s 16 and it’s pads again. But I wouldn’t let her use tampons at 10 years old.

My 14 yr old still uses pads she started her period when she was 11 and has always used pads. I felt like even though I’m a woman when I was standing there looking for pads for my 11 yr old who started at school I had no frickin idea which kind to get I literally stood there looking for 30 minutes lmao  you got this momma find some teen slim pads something that won’t be super uncomfortable for her.

My daughter has a heavy flow and doesnt like small pads. She uses the heavy flow overnights. Their pretty big so they cover alot. Id recommend them for bedtime for sure.

Mine got hers at 9…11 now and we’ve always used pads with wings…she doesn’t like the idea of period undies and I feel way she’s way too young for tampons

All 3 of my daughters use pads. My oldest is 17. Me personally have had issues with toxic shock syndrome from tampons and much more. So, I don’t want my daughters to experience that. It’s also healthier for the blood flow to wear pads. I still wear pads.

Show her the many options and let her decide what she wants to use.

Always pads are great .

Pads are good and if she’s comfortable with using a cup, definitely look into those… it takes a second to get the hang of it, but reduces cramps a zillion times instead of wearing tampons

Five below has a very good education one and it’s only 5 dollars

I’m 18 and I’ll never wear a tampon pads all the way

My daughter also started at 10, she used pads until she was 12 and asked to use tampons.

Use mini pads to young for tampons !!

I just pray she didn’t do what I did. I thought the biggest tampons would be okay. I put it in and the pain was indescribable. Took me almost and hour to get it out, throwing up from the pain cause I was like 11 and didn’t know it would hurt and was super, guess you could say, dry. I didn’t use them again until years later.

Definitely the tween/teen pads by Kotex. They have regular heavy and overnight as well . I would def recommend ultra thin pads over actually maxi pads. It’s less bulk and way more comfortable

Yep! I can’t use tampons due to a tilted uterus and they make me super uncomfortable so I just do pads.

I have 4 girls. They all started with pads. They all like different kinds as their flows are all different.

I’m 41 and use pads. Actually a combo of disposable and cloth. Tampons make me cramp worse. Don’t forget the midol !

They have a pack of teen pads

Pads are good to start with until they’re comfortable to move on to tampons. I would get with wings and without to see what they find more comfortable. I always used tampons until I had my first kid. I’ve had the same box of tampons for ever lol

The thin long overnight ones with wings are what I like to use, cause we all know it don’t stay in one spot:woman_facepalming:t2::joy: lol but honestly maybe buy a variety of pads & let her try them all to see which one she prefers more, that’s probably a better way to do it, Goodluck to you guys!

YES. My oldest is 12 and wears pads.

They are more expensive but buy the always brand that is in the box they are sooo much more comfortable and not as plastic feeling as the regular ones

I’m 45 only worn pads, not one tampon.

Pads, period underwear and slim tampons for my 11 year old.

I think pads are the best first step, especially at that age. My daughter only used tampons so early because she’s on the swim team.

The newer pads are WAY different then what we had.

My just turned 10yr old started about 6mths ago & was actually given a little bag by her school that was full of different “U by kotex” products, which are what I use as well.
But honestly trial & error mama!! I prefer the ultra thin pads myself but we’ve bought a couple of different brands for my daughter & so far out of them all she prefers the Libra Super pads which are way chunkier but she finds them perfect for her. Just keep trying different stuff & she’ll figure out what she’s most comfy with :sparkling_heart:

Give her an option …my mom didn’t give me and option and like dumb …there is so many options for this

Yes. I wouldn’t teach her tampons yet. I never could. They always made me hemorrhage. You need to know her routine first. I’m sure you can Google what you need. I would call her Dr and have her explain it if you feel lost. Or maybe a FNP. Functional Nurse Practitioner.

My 10 yr old just started…I bought her a variety of pads and let her try each to figure what she felt comfortable using. We discussed tampons, but agreed she wasn’t comfortable with that right now and we will revisit in the future.

I still do at 45. Its icky but I hate the feel of tampons and always bleed through them anyway

Pads with wings, so her pad doesn’t shift and leave her embarrassed :flushed:

I’m 28 and I’ll use both. Just depends how I’m feeling and what I’m doing.

Buy her some period panties ! They are a life saver !

My daughter started with pads but quickly moved to tampons because of sports. She still uses pads as a backup.

Yes! The always with flex foam is life! Doesn’t get all bunched up and feel like a diaper.

My almost 14 y.o. does until she (if she does) decides she wants to use tampons

I’m 31 and I’ve been using only pads since I started. Us heavy flow girls gotta have em. Also a tampon seems like it’d bug me

Start her with pads. She can choose to switch to tampons, a menstrual cup, period underwear or whatever when she’s older.

Honestly I HATED pads absolutely hated them from my very first period on. It also depends how heavy hers is, I bled through the first time my mom sent me with one of those smaller ones. Give her options, buy a variety of products and explain how each one is used and give her the option. It’s her body, whatever makes her most comfortable

My 11 year old daughter uses the period undies on her heavier days that are washable and then thin pads with wings on lighter days. She hasn’t had it each month yet either, she has had 3 periods in 5 months.

Yes start her with a pad I would get an organic brand. Even when my girls got older they use them to sleep .
