My ten year old started her period, do people still use pads?

My daughter is freaked out by tampons, which is fine because they are weird for young girls. She uses pads and disposable underwear for bedtime

My daughter started at 8 and she uses the thick pads. Never let her use tampons because it give toxic shock syndrome. Look this up.

My daughter does, but sheā€™s a swimmer so she also uses tampons when she needs

Absolutely. I love the Always brand. Really donā€™t like the wings because they donā€™t stay in place lol.

My daughter started when she was 10 shell b 13 in December and thatā€™s what she usesā€¦ she refuses to use anything else because theyā€™re uncomfortable or as she says they feel weird

I would suggest period panties from Victoria Secret and always brand flex foam pads . I would buy smaller packs until she finds a size she is comfortable with

Yes itā€™s good to start her out with pads ā€¦ my daughter used them until she turned 14 and decided to start stealing my tiny lil kotex clicks

Yes, my niece started her period sheā€™s 12, she wears a pad. Too young for a tampon. This is my personal opinion.

My daughter is 10 bout to be 11 in 3 weeks Iā€™m app nervous its getting close to that!

My daughter is the same age. Iā€™ve ordered a starter pack from Amazon which is sat in her drawer for when the time comes. It came in a little bag with tampons, pads and a booklet. We have already sat and read it together. It was only a couple of pounds. Iā€™ve heard amazing things about period knickers too. Wish they were around when I was a teen.

My daughter got hers when she was 12 and she used pads.

You can actually sign her up for a period party! I know it sounds crazy but my co-worker did this with her daughter and it sounded awesome. I never knew about it when my daughter started. But you sign her up, and a professional talks to the group and they talk about the female anatomy and what happens when you have your period and how to use the products, etc. My daughter wore pads right at first, but it didnā€™t take long for her to want to use tampons.

Iā€™m 33 and I still use pads because I donā€™t like tampons anymore. I feel pads are safer. Young girls always start off with pads.

Yes people still use pads. I personally donā€™t like them but they are still used but many people I know

Why not try her with period undies. More discreet and more comfortable. If not then yes pads are the way to go

Yes they have teen Kotex now, I wouldnā€™t allow my daughter to wear tampons until high school

The fit and comfort is trial and error.
If you need a video, call your daughters doctor or search utube.

My twins were 11 they use pads .

I use the ultra thin ones by stayfree.

Always makes a teen pad that I get for my 10 year old

Always infinity! The absolute best. Donā€™t even know theyā€™re there and they last quite awhile.

They have teen ones I use for my daughter

Dont they make period underwear now where they look like normal underwear lol

Start with pads, they donā€™t need tampons yet.

Iā€™m 29 and still perfer pads over tampons or diva cups ā€¦ tampon is uncomfortable! Maybe because I had 3 childrenā€¦?

Yes they make some now that are for teens!

Yes, they do and itā€™s your daughterā€™s preference between a pad or tampon.

I recommended to a neighbor that at night her daughter use Depends or pose as the come in small. Will help her sleep better. I donā€™t know what they use now.

Please check with your Dr , 10 is far too young to get her periods .

My 11 year old granddaughter wears thin pads.

My daughter uses pads and we just got her some period panties from Victoria Secret!

American girl has a book called, the care and taking care of you book 1&2. That goes over this

Welcome to life with a teenage girl going through puberty.

Stay with pads. Toxic syndrome is a serious problem and can be hereditary. I had a problem with it. So when my daughter started hers her doctor said it would be best for her to use pads. And we had a local girl here pass away from it a few years ago

Yes Kotex makes them with cute little designs on the wrapper

I use pads. I cant use tampons. They always make me sick.

Yes, I recommend pads till they are older.

Teen pads from walmart

Pad! Best choice. Heavy menstrual, donā€™t hesitate to recommend depends. Save her from embarrassment

I use pads all the time. I hate tampons tbey hurt and make my crampa worse. They make cute cotex ones (pads) that are colorful lol. Shes still little so she wont bleed to much.

Yes my daughter does, sheā€™s 11

They make peroid panties that may work. Wish i had them when my daughter was younger

My daughter started with the teen maxi pads

I would get her period panties!!

Yes my daughter is 17 and uses pads

Look it up on the internet

Yes started out with pads and she wants to wait as long as possible to quit using themā€¦best book Iā€™ve referred to other moms

Yes my daughter is 10 and just started her period. I but her teen pads, by ā€œAlwaysā€ and ā€œUā€ by kotex she prefers the always teen pads, better fit/shape for her she has said. I donā€™t want to start her on tampons this young :woman_shrugging:t3:

I didnt use tampons until I was in highschool. And now as an adult I prefer pads. Tampons hurt. Wings are also a big thumbs down

My daughter found these amazing panties for this time. They keep them from having leakage or accidents.

I was talking to a friend, he was asking advice on their 13 yr old daughter. I suggested the flex discā€™s. I actually prefer them to pads or tampons

I was 17 years old when I first got my period. Started with tampons, never wore pads.

Amazon has wonderful books. A-Z. They can comprehend.

Pads only at her age!!!

One of my friends bought these for her daughter. I have no personal experience with them, but wanted to share the information for anyone who may be interested.

Yes! And period undies.

You write or call them

For a 10 year old?! Nothing but pads. Do not let any child use a tampon til about 16. Or when you know that they have become sexually active. Even then, toxic shock syndrome is real. The younger they are when using tampons, the more likely they are to get it.

Pads are great to learn with but if sheā€™d be more comfortable with something else, they make menstrual cups for teens!! I use a cup myself, theyā€™re reusable, you can wear for up to 12 hours a day without risk of TSS, and theyā€™re easy to use.

www.putacupinit.com helped me choose the best one for me :purple_heart:

Yes, certainly they do

I prefer them honestly

My daughter is 11, she started her period a month ago so she uses pads. Pads are the best choice! I donā€™t think any child should use tampons unless she is old enough and especially that young or a Virgin. My opinion on this topic.

Always makes thin and regular pads based on their underwear size for the best fit
Best brand in my opinion.

I always wear the Always infinity pads. Holds heavy periods, but still are thin. :slightly_smiling_face:

I use the brand ā€œcoraā€ for pads. Theyā€™re awesome and absorbent and have different sizes for different flows. They also give pads to women in 3rd world countries.

Always- 100% cotton. Theyā€™re super thin, not too long unless you get overnight, and they work amazing and are incredibly comfortable! I canā€™t wear tampons, theyā€™re painful for me. So, pads it is

Personally Iā€™d use organic, cloth pads or period underwear. Just my opinion and what my obgyn/doctor discussed with me to bring up to my daughter when she starts. Sheā€™s 8 and I hope she holds off a few more years

Ummm yes. Thatā€™s what I started my daughter on- sheā€™s 15 and still prefers pads

She should not use tampons until she is sexually active. Also teach her about changing them as they say like up to 8 hour hold. Your cycle holds alot of bacteria and can cause yeast and itching if hygiene isnā€™t kept up during it.

I donā€™t have a daughter, but if I did, I would go over the different products with her and ask her what she is most comfortable using. If you can afford to, maybe even purchase a few different options so she can touch them and read the directions.
Things that go inside her body should only do so if she is responsible enough to take it back out in a timely manner.
I started using tampons after my first few periods. Please donā€™t let people link internal menstrual products and virginity. There is absolutely no reason that a virgin canā€™t use a tampon, cup or disc if they are comfortable.

American girls has a great book for this. We read them both and then talked about any questions she had and she was ready.

I started my period at 11, I used pads in the beginning and tampons only to swim. By the time I was 12-13, I was using tampons all the time (except at night, then I use overnight pads) bc pads are honestly disgusting and youā€™re just sitting in a diaper full of your own blood. My opinion, start her off on pads while you go over the important parts of having your period. Then together, you can look into different options and learn about the pros and cons of each, if youā€™re uncomfortable or donā€™t know where to startā€¦ bring her to a doctor, preferably one she can continue to see occasionally and build a relationship with so when itā€™s time to start OB appointments she can be a little more comfortable bc sheā€™s built a relationship and trust with someone.

Thereā€™s all sorts of options now- pads, tampons, absorbent underwear, menstrual cups. You just have to push past the awkwardness, be ready for uncomfortable questions and let her have some say while you guide her through this.

I have only rarely used tampons. I was a heavy bleeder though and my mother was very light so for a long time I was in the school office at least three times a week because it had never occurred to her that our periods could be so different and left me with mini pads. I know today there are so many more options open to younger women. My only daughter is 11 and hasnā€™t started, but weā€™ve talked about it and we have a starter pack ready for her with various sized pads. Weā€™ve talked a lot about the mood swings, cravings for sweets, pain (back and cramps) as well why all of it happens. My mom made it a celebration and took me out for a nice meal and I plan on doing the same for my daughter. I really, and I do mean really, wish they had period panties when I was a kid though. It would have saved a ton of embarrassment.

Yes I use always ultra thins works amazing an has wings to help hold I cannot use tampons an find these the least bulky an uncomfortable ones an if she has sensitive skin shy away from the scented ones tapoons Iā€™d suggest maybe when sheā€™s a bit older but always have her keep up with removalsan let her know the dangerous of tss if thatā€™s the correct abrivation for it

I started on pads because I just never found tampons to be comfortable. So yes I would start with pads and discussing the different types options she has and how each one works. Also you may want to let her teachers know in an email as she may be embrassed to ask a teacher to you a restroom when she starts each month. My mom always told me that if im cramping and at school I can go to the nurse talk to them and she would bring me some medicine or check me out.

When i was younger my mom got me this book and it helped ALOT !! Gives instructions on how to use pads and tampons and just stuff a a girl would go through in puberty

We sure do still use them. Iā€™d buy a few of each or sign up for some samples. Maybe she might prefer one over the other. Personally I go for the organic cotton type. Itā€™s more comfortable and doesnā€™t irritate.

Iā€™d keep an extra pair of panties, leggings and pads/tampons in a small bag in her backpack for school just in case of emergencies

My daughter is 16 and still only uses pads because tampons hurt to much. Definitely start with pads and let her use them as long as possible.

I always use pads. My 15 year old started with pads and I told her when her period was more regular we would try tampons. She has only used tampons a few times over the last few years.

Nope, no one uses them anymore. The stores just keep the shelves nice and stocked for decoration.

Just a suggestionā€¦my daughter started young tooā€¦
I made sure she had a little zip up bag with wipesā€¦her padsā€¦and a pair of underwear in it for her to have at schoolā£
My daughter had to learn how to use tampons earlier than most because of sports that didnā€™t allow for wearing a pad (swim team)ā€¦we found that the Playtex Sport ones (in pink box) were the easiest and most comfortable for her to use when she neededā£

My daughter started at the same age and stay free was the best option because they were cotton. Always and most others are dry weave and they have a pulling effect that suck and can make you hurt at least they do the woman in my family. My daughter is now almost 16 and she just started a year ago using tampons because she is a athlete and when she goes swimming.

They do still make them, please remember itā€™s her body and to let her know the options. Iā€™ve always hated pads (started periods in 5th grade)
When I found out about tampons I switched to them (a few months later) and have been with them since.
Thereā€™s pads, period underwear, cups, and tampons

I used to wear tampons but then after having a baby I started only using pads when my time of the month came. I think with her being young you should start her out on pads.

Yes there are all kinds of sizes and brands. In my opinion shes too young for tampons.

These would be great for her

Yes, people still use pads. Also let her be aware of Toxic Shock.
I wore pads until I was about 16. Once I started being sexually active, I tried tampons. Now, I prefer tampons. But everyone is different.

The Care and Keeping of You: Body Book for Young Girls. My mom got me this book when I started my period and it was super helpful!

My daughter uses pads and tampons. There are some for teens, I think theyā€™re Always Radiant, that we get for her. She started at 12 and is 14 now.
