I use long panty liners. Carefree makes long one that really absorb like a big pad. It’s the big pink pack
These are the THINNEST pads! Can’t even tell Im wearing them! Have NEVER bled through, even on my heaviest periods.
Yes my daughter started this year at 9 years old and I’m starting her on pads… I feel like it’s easier to start with but could be different for others
Personal cloth pads and period underwear. Pads r so big qnd bulky. I use to get sores from them
I believe young girls should use pads. My daughter will into her teens.
Use always or U by Kotex! They have a teenager section specifically catering to teenagers. Hell on my light days I still use pads.
She can’t use a tampon until 14 its says it in the box so I would believe pad are still a thing
I got my period that going as well and actually surprisingly enough American girl makes an amazing book to explain everything to her !
Personally I would do pads for her. At 10 years old I wouldn’t trust my daughter with responsibility of a tampon, TSS is just too dangerous.
Thinx undies and honey pot brand pads would be a great idea!
My daughter started last year at nine and yes she has pads but heavy times i have her use the depends so she won’t mess her clothes especially while at school.
I knew she was going to start early because she’s been showing signs since 4, 5 yrs old. I started at 11. She’s in the 4th grade and is a full C cup and taller than I am! I’m 5’6" I was 11 in the 7th grade and a full C. She’s growing up too fast for me.
Yes if shes very heavy get her the over nights ones the purple pack
I never used tampons… im 33 and prefer pads🤷♀️
Don’t forget to take her out to a mother-daughter dinner where she can open we ask questions and celebrate her growing into a fine young lady
Avoid tampons, pads with wings best option for A young lady x
I started on pads and my mom just put everything, pads tampons panty liners etc, in one cabinet together. There was 3 girls in the house not including her so we just grabbed what we personally wanted to use and that was that
Yes! They also make teen pads
The best pads are body form pink/purple packet and ultrex blue
Yes and you can find a video on you tube that she can watch and explains the process.
You mean pads are nolonger sold in the stores???
My girls use ultrathin ones. 16 and 11 years old
I’ve heard the cups are great go to anymore. No TSS
Heck yeah I never use tampons unless necessary
Or there is period undies which I use and love
Yes the thought of a tampon that can cause toxic shock syndrome scares the heck out of me
Omg thats so young, but yes only pads her body is not ready for tampons
Yes. You lay them in the underwear. It’s very easy
I know plenty of women who still use pads.
Pad first tampons when she is more older
Definitely pads. I was terrified of tampons until I lost my virginity, even when I started with tampons I never slept with them! I’ve had TSS and have only worn pads since! You should never sleep with a tampon.
Period undies postie plus bonds and awwa make them.
Toxic shock is a thing, if she isn’t mature enough to make sure it’s taken out promptly.
Try diva cup
Its the best
Really? Umm…that is all i really use unless go swimming. Lol. Undo strip off back…stick to panties…pull panties up. Ta da. Using a pad.
My daughter used pads up until highschool then she used tampons for dance and softball
Of course women still use pads…
Yes get the teen sized onesb
The bad part is that we still have to talk about this with every girl and every generation while they still feel awkward and embarrassed. All women do it, why isn’t this talked about more? If men did it, they would get 2 days off work a month
Most girls and women I know still wear pads my mom, me & my 16yo included.
Yes. What do you use…
Yeah. If you go down the feminine hygiene aisle there are tons of pads.
Yes ! Start with PADS
Period Undies, Flex Disc(if you and her are comfortable/open to trying different period supplies, or a pad with wings! I’m 28 and I will wear a pad for the first 2 days and then use my flex disc. It minimizes the cramped and pain for me, but everyone is different! I hope y’all find what fits best!
Some hospitals give a class on coming of age… in Shreveport, Louisiana, I took my daughter and her friend’s Mom’s took theirs at the same time… it helped.
Both my girls wear the teenu pads.
I do. Always with wings.
They also make “period panties”… called Thinx. Great for younger girls!
I started with thin pads with wings, I preferred those when I was younger bc the wings keep it in place. Around 14/15 I made the switch to tampons and never went back.
Mine doesn’t get on with the teen pads so just uses Bodyform regular ones. Some like the new Period Panties but we haven’t tried them. They might be good if your period is due.
Please stop saying young girls shouldn’t wear tampons…it’s a personal choice. And personally tampons saved me. I felt so embarrassed wearing a pad it caused anxiety and when I started using tampons I was actually relieved. I was 11 when I started tampons. There is nothing wrong with using tampons at that age. It’s her choice. Give her options and see what she herself is comfortable with. Period. Don’t decide for her. Tampons only hurt if you’re wearing them and your flow isnt heavy and you’re dealing with pulling a slightly dry tampon out. Otherwise they don’t hurt so you’re either wearing the wrong size or not inserting far enough in if it’s uncomfortable.
Yes, they do make maxi pads for younger girls. They also can use tampons. It should be her choice. Celebrate Your Body (and Its Changes, Too!): The Ultimate Puberty Book for Girls. Great book for young girls. Includes info on tampons and other body changes.
I kind of understand. I’ve been using tampons for over 20 years. So when my daughter started her period I had to buy her pads and show her and it was something I didn’t use much but she was fine with them. Don’t worry she will be fine.
TF! Don’t you still get your period? Ofcourse there’s still pads the only thing ill allow my 10 year to use.!
Yeah my daughter is quite heavy and what started as liners and teen pads has quickly progressed to proper pads x
I still use pads Tampons would irritate and give me a flare up it’s not worth it. Let them choose what’s comfortable for them, they may end up feeling like period underwear may be better than tampons and pads. It’s their choice afterall.
I would have her use the pads made for teens, no tampons.
Because she is only 10, a tampon could be too much for her, hurt and cause discomfort. But most importantly, when using tampons, taking them out within a the right amount of time to avoid Toxic Shock Syndrome requires a lot more maturity than a kid her age has developed yet. To be safe, pads are best.
Not a single person here considered maybe it’s a single dad asking.
The hostility in these comments😬
My 14 year old uses pads only tampons when swimming
I always used tampons, my daughter preferred pads…she said tampons were uncomfortable. Now she uses a diva cup and loves it
I started at 8. The first few years, tampons were painful for me, so I used pads. 22 years later and tampons are back to hurting.
I use pads but only the flex foam ones. Very absorbent and haven’t had leaks
For girls very young i would recommend the period pull ups, they are pretty much disposable diapers that hold up to 5 large pads. They look like panties and come in black to look more discreet. My 9 year old started and she struggled with pads. She was embarrassed at school to take pads. The pull ups make her feel better and it last all day. She comes home showers and uses another one. They are little pricey but so worth it. They were a lifesaver for my daughter. Until shes ready for pads and one day tampons when she is comfortable.
Try always infinity!! They are super thin but hold up to 8 hrs of liquid. They are literally the best pad out there right now.
I got mine at 9 years old have always used pads tampons have never been comfortable for me. I would let her decide though it’s whatever makes me feel comfortable and secure during those days. Makes her a period starter pack with candies, loofas, and different options for her.
Yes, I’d start her out on pads but also let her know that she has the choose of using tampons if the pads don’t work for her
I use them can’t have tampons feel free to message me if you need any help or advice
Umm. I’m an adult and still use pads. I can barely wear a tampon. Tampons usually irritate things down there. There are starter boxes with pads, liners and different sizes of tampons in it still. I’d try that. I don’t know about videos or books though. It’s kind of a learn as you go. I have myself figured out but then my daughter stumped me because she would leak in what I thought was a weird place but I guess it’s a thing. Trial and error. Just do your best.
Bought my daughter this book. I wish I had something like this growing up. It does talk about tampons too but that’s your choice.
Yes pads. WAY too young for tampons. They also have period proof bathing suits
I would use pads. When she’s a bit older I’d discuss tampons. Then maybe closer to 16 I’d see if she’d be interested in a menstrual cup. That’s I plan on doing with my 3 daughters. Although I’m intrigued by these period pull ups. Never heard of them.
I’ve used pads and preferred over years
I think being that young she should start with pads
It depends on the child, my 12 year old still prefers pads and my 10 year old wears tampons to school and pads at home. We only use the always sensitive!
I second the books “the care and keeping of you” I had it growing up and I gave them to my daughter who is 10 and she enjoys having it
I use pads! Can’t do tampons. I actually use those poise pads because they’re just more comfortable, the others break me out.
As an adult, I use pads. Tampons are uncomfortable for me to put in. But that didn’t start until after my second child. I’ve heard the period underwear are great, but that it’s a trial and error to find the ones that work for you. Just as a pad or tampon is.
Yes pads all the way… can’t imagine a 10 year old using a tampon. Would be awful painful especially being a virgin trying to put it in.
I took them shopping and got them all different lengths and thicknesses and different brands so they could see what they liked best
My girls are almost 12 and 10 and loved the books. The older one has started and prefers pads. The others scare her. I think I’ll teach her about the cups BC tampons seem to make my cramps worse.
At 10 she should only be using pads.
I wouldn’t offer tampons until atleast 13.
I started with tampons at 10. Pads always irritated me.
At 28 i switched to a cup and haven’t looked back…they make teen sized cups (look at June brand) if that is a route you’re interested in.
This is such a good question! I would say pads because she is young!
We bought every pad on the planet. In the US, preteen pads are no longer available. Shes on the small side, so we ended up buying her several pairs of period underwear. She changes them 3 times per day. They were expensive, but fit her better and give her much more confidence at school. They do have to be washed per tag instructions to retain their absorbency. We purchased Thinx, but there are many other brands available now.
My daughter uses thinx period panties. They are more comfortable and hold more. No leaks and she prefers to wear these during school. They have been a life saver for her especially during sports and she doesn’t have to worry about bleeding through them.
And they have smaller sizes
Look at lilets. They have a great preteen pack up x
My mother let me choose what to use.
pads until they are responsible enough to remember to change a tampon
lol no they just use a facecloth
Yes and they come in different sizes not just absorbency. I think until the period becomes regular tampons should be avoided
I started with regular pads but switched to tampons quickly after.
I am 26 years old and still cannot stand tampons… So I use pads unless we are somewhere aquatic then I suffer with tampons.
Period panties are a great non invasive alternative they are expensive but can be reused just have to rinse, wash and hang dry they will never work again if dried in a dryer
Of course they still use pads lol
I would ask her how heavy her period is and also take her so she can see the many differences, and try different ones, I remember when I started my period my mom got me really small ones for teens and my period was very heavy and I was staining my clothes and I was very uncomfortable and embarrassed, just let her see them and pick different sizes see what she likes and ask her to stay home while she gets her first periods so she can have her shower and her how comfort in case she gets it very heavy and she strays learning the process !
I only use pads and I’m 44😄 but I started my period at 9 years old and didn’t use a tampon until I was 14
You could look into a cup.
My 10 yr old uses always teen pads they work good
Yeah they are! Go for the thin ones. Also buy tampons in case she wants to use those. It’s ok, you guys can learn together, let her lead by her comfort level. She’ll let you know what works!
