My ten year old started her period, do people still use pads?

Mine use the always pads

Honestly pads are the only way to go for me! I am not comfortable with tampons at all. To each their own!

Iā€™ve always used these since I started my period.

up until menapause i always used pads as my flow was so heavy

Thank you for the question. My now 10 year old was told at her 9yr child well check she could be starting anytime. She still hasnā€™t. Iā€™m a grandma raising a child so Iā€™m out of the loop on how things are done nowadays.

My daughterā€™s favorite was the super long super thin over nighters by Always when she first started. 2 yrs later and she is more comfortable using tampons 13yo . I bought her a few pairs of Victoriaā€™s Secret pink period panties for the extra security for when sheā€™s in school. Make her a little ā€œgirly bag and boxā€ for her with pads of all sizes, flushable wipes, mini body spray, period panties, aromatherapy stuffed animal with a removable heating bean bag, chocolate, and midol/Tylenol or whatever is age appropriate, and maybe a new set of dark colored comfy jammies and some popcorn and watch some YouTube videos together to learn about periods and all kinds of tips and tricks for her to be prepared. Especially for school.

Yes people still use pads

At that age she should only use pads. Unless swimming

I started my 10 year old off on pads. I really love these, and I use them myself as well:

I always use pads. Tampons never felt right to me and they especially felt bad after I had my kids.

Yes the flex foam pads work amazing especially with not feeling like your sitting in a wet diaper lol.

My daughter started at 10. She will only wear pads. Sheā€™s afraid to try tampons yet and sheā€™s 15.

They have u by kotex pads for teens

Yes people still use padsā€¦ and yes sheā€™s going through puberty you start puberty technically about a year before you have your first period

Yes, pads are still a thing. Get her the super thin long pads. The have infinity foam which is great bc itā€™s so much more comfortable.

My daughter is almost 14 we are on yr 3 of periods she still canā€™t use tampons does not like them at all they hurt her all the other girls say she is weird bc they wear tampons

Of course they do. Alot of teens use them because tampons are not really safe at all. Toxic shock syndrome is super scary and at such a young age I donā€™t recommend tampons.

I get maxi pads with out wings for my bladder leakage they are awesome wonā€™t use nothing else

My girl doesnā€™t like tampons (more or less she isnā€™t used to them) we use maxi pads for her

Ummm why would a 10 year old wear tampons? When you go pick up your feminine products you donā€™t see the pads there? Jeez. My 9 year old started last month and I will not be even mentioning tampons to her til she is a grown ass woman.

Period panties were way more comfortable for my girls

Ask her what she wants. There are so many choices now. I used pads at that age and tampons in my teens, and up until I got my iud I used a cup. I prefer the cup. But its her choice, just make sure whatever she decides she is well educated.

My oldest started at 8. I started her with the U by kotex. They come in different lengths and absorbancy. She is 16 now and still uses them when not using tampons or a cup. I let her go at her own pace and use whatever she felt comfortable with. We found that always brand caused allergic reactions to her. She also has some Period panties we got her from Amazon that she prefers to sleep in and wear at home.

Check out period panties, theyā€™re fantastic!! No worries about leaks.

I like thinx period underwear, with pads and tampons as emergencies.

Get the kotex for teens there thinner pads

Yes. My daughter started hers earlier this year and uses pads with wings. She likes the thin long ones with wings. She is 11, not ready for tampons or anything else.

Most pre-teens do use pads. Some continue to use pads and avoid tampons, some use tampons and avoid pads. Iā€™d say until you and her both believe she is responsible enough to use tampons (because of TSS) then pads are the way to go! When she gets to where she feels comfortable to use a tampon, you should let it be her choice as to what she uses.

Wait- you think shes started puberty, or did she actually start her period? Take her to the store and show her the difference between the types of pads and tampons and ask her what she wants to try.

My mom had us use pads for a year then tampons. But we started when we were in 7th grade. But I hated pads cuz they feel like diapers so I started to wear pads my second period. Iā€™d say let her try both and see what she likes or what sheā€™s comfortable with. Id get pads with wings in my opinion and I donā€™t feel like I gotta say this but if you get tampons get plastic applicators not cardboard

Iā€™ve never used a tampon in my life, pads are best especially at 10 years old. If she is heavy I think she will need a thicker pad tho

Yes I always made mine wear pads until age 13 then let them use tampons. Only one of my three daughters likes tampons. The others use pads. I cannot use tampons so I use pads.

I use pads because of my job. I work for a lawn service so leaks are my worst nightmare. I quit using period pads. I use the Always discreet for bladder leaks. Iā€™ve had way less leaks since the switch. They make them from super slim to damn near diaper.

Always flex foam are what I push any teen to useā€¦ the blood is pulled away from skin thats sensitive.
Super thin so sjes not embarrassed the heavy flow are super thin and feel like underwear.

Use the flex pads for her thatā€™s what I got my 11yr old they are more comfortable and cant see then threw the pants

Stay away from tampons as they make cramps 100x worse and send back chemicals in the body

Way to young for tampons. Take her with you to pick out what she wants. Trial and error until shes happy .

Period panties are the best to start with.

I use pads only and Iā€™m 29

iā€™m 19 and i only use pads lol. i use the ā€˜L. Chlorine Free Ultra Thinā€™ which have no chemicals so no risk of having a reaction and i have a heavy flow and they do really well for me. but if your daughter decides she wants tampons instead then L. has organic cotton tampons which are better for you then the popular brand ones which have chemicals.

10 yr olds should not wear tampons. Imo anyway. There are all kinds of pads out there for teens. I would go with those. At least until she is well into her teens.

Look for ultra thin.

I was 35 and still using them till I had my hysterectomy. I highly suggest always ultra thin they have different flows in them I always got the overnight cause Iā€™m a heavier set girl and would bleed through the front or back if I didnā€™t wear long ones but theyā€™re thin though it doesnā€™t make you uncomfortable or noticeable youā€™re wearing one but built very well so you donā€™t have to change every 30 mins.

Yes people use pads I deff woulsnt use no tampon at that age Iā€™d wait before introducing any tampon and even then still say pad because you can get that to it syndrome from tampons even when u be careful and do it right there r kind that r wings on them and very light weight and r more like a foam and honestly it dont feel like have anything on and it deff keeps u feeling dry and it dont leak for nothing and if active person as in up doing sports or anything its stays in place is good and they come in different sizes and stuff some for heavier flow n or reg or light but even ones for heavy flow r still very light and they also now have out period underwear that r washable but I deff would not do tampons

Give her all the options. Pads, liners, tampons, cups, disposable underwear, period underwear, etc. Inform her on how to properly use them all and let her decide which she prefers. She can try and figure out whatā€™s best for her. I would offer some small comfort items (heating pad, chocolates, a cute little discreet bag, and maybe a new cup for promoting hydration). I started at age 11 and was given regular tampons and pads. I chose to do tampons during the day and pads at night time. But some days tampons make my cramps worse, so I do pads. I havenā€™t really spent the money to try out all of the newer options. But what I said is what Iā€™d offer my daughter when the time comes.

Have you looked into period underwear ā€¦ they r way more comfortable then pads of any kind so I have heard ā€¦ I also used tampons when I was her age too. But always felt weird with them I am happily on the depo shot and donā€™t have a period any more ā€¦ I just bought my cousin a pair of period underwear and she canā€™t wait to try them!

They have teen size now available and organic ones. I wouldnā€™t recommend tampons at that age.

I do not have a girl. But if That was the case I wouldnā€™t want my 10 year old girl using tampons. Maybe later on when she is grown. Anyways tampons have chemicals unless you buy them organic and for some reasons those donā€™t slide in so good at least to me. Buy thin pads extra long and wings for her so that way she doesnā€™t have problems getting her clothes blooded :upside_down_face:

Toxic shock is from leaving tampons in too long. 10 year olds use pads.

Always infinity pads. They come in all different sizes! My 15 year old loves them.

I use ultra thin pads with wings. Thereā€™s a whole bunch of different options though it would depend on how comfortable she is with using them. Thereā€™s tampons and period underwear, pads and menstrual cups too. Pads come in all different sizes and types, including organic, teens and pads with wings

Thereā€™s period underwear now. She may be more comfortable in that for the first couple of months.

Tampons at that age sounds like a nightmare for a plethora of reasons. Go with pads and period panties. WAY safer and more comfortable, especially for teens and tweens.

Yea. I prefer pads. Iā€™ve used my whole life. There are probably websites that go over w options and stuff but not sure about good books.

At 10 years old she should only be using pads. Iā€™m 25 and have only ever used pads. I feel like this wasnā€™t written by a woman though because how could you not know if women still use pads?

Yes. Wait for tampon use. Maturity wise itā€™d be better. Kids tend to forget things and you definitely donā€™t want them to get toxic shock.

When my daughters started at 10 I bought them lillet teens

My 16 year old hates tamponsā€¦ she prefers to use the always teen padā€™s. Iā€™d go with one made for teens because theyā€™re made for smaller bodies and not near as bulky. IMO 10 years old is wayyy too young to be inserting anything into her body like a tampon, douche, etcā€¦

I got ā€œredā€ pads for young girls for my 10 year old. They fit their bodies unlike the womenā€™s pads.

Yes 100%
I use pads, cups, or period underwear. Tampons are awful.

My daughter is 10 and uses pads. I would not have her use tampons at such a young age but thats a personal preference. I feel like most 10 yr olds wouldnā€™t want to anyways. I still donā€™t unless i am going swimming lol.
We get the pads for teens

My daughter was also 10. We started her out with these.

I use pads the only thing I will use

Id leave it up to her. What ever sheā€™s comfortable with. If you do get her tampons get organic ones cause I can definitely see a 10 year old forgetting and getting toxic shock

Thats a dumb as question

All i use is pads lol i used to wear tampons in highschool but since having children I prefer pads :woman_shrugging:t2:

Do NOT use tampons there are pads for teens.Look for TWEENS my middle girl used them at 10 sheā€™s and still prefers them

Take her to the store and let her pick out the things sheā€™s like to try. Bleeders use a lot of different hygiene method.

Iā€™d go with pads at that age.

One of my friends is 23 and only uses pads. There are pads made for teens though just remind her to change it every time she goes to the bathroom

Iā€™m 24 and I have a toddler and still use and always will use pads! Lol

A lot of people get the period underwear now

Pads and the period undies is what my daughter and I use The risk of toxic shock isnā€™t worth it. Iā€™ve known more than one person and a girl at work had one stuck the other day and someone I knew had to get one medically removed. Nothing wrong with pads. They have wings and are quite thin and breathable. In primary I used to wear bike shorts as an added precaution of keeping my undies not visible under a dress at those
Timesā€¦

I dont know how you or your daughter would feel about using a moon cup?? They are totally natural and money saving and no chance of getting TSS if she forget to take it out ??
Maybe just stick with pads for now though as sheā€™s still very young

Pads are so much healthier then tampons. Possibly look into a period cup as well!

Iā€™ve heard a mixture of moms buying pads but also period underwear (yes itā€™s a thing). I donā€™t have a girl, but from my friends who have girls, they prefer them to use thin (natural) pads.

Bonds,Woolies,Big W K Mart all sell Period Pants as well they are awesome

They still wear pads as well but it is safer

Iā€™m 40 and still use pads, never used anything else because it doesnā€™t feel comfortable, just get her what she feels comfortable with, not what everyone else is doing, good luck x

I would get a few different options for her to try and see what feels comfortable. I started with pads as a kid, but quickly switched to tampons when I realized how much more comfortable it is.

I use reusable pads. I donā€™t like anything from the store too many chemicals in it. I get them on Amazon.

My daughter was 11 when she had herā€™s. Went to walmart and bought almost all sizes of pads and the thinnest tampons. Went home got Ć  pair of underwear we went to the bathroom and i gave her Ć  course on how and when to use each one. Proper hygeine and Proper disposal. We also looked at tampons for when she had gym or wanted to go swimming but i also explained that it stops when you are in the water but hustle to the bathroom when you get out if you arenā€™t using Ć  tampon. She decided not to use tampons ( which i was really happy about) also spoke to her about the dangers of toxic shock syndrome from wearing tampons too long. The importance of removing the first tampon before inserting Ć  New one and also the easiest position to use to put one in if she wanted to try them. She is now 22 and usĆ©s tampons sometimes but is more comfortable with pads. Also teach to change pads up lets say every time she goes to the bathroom to avoid getting rashes and other undesirables. Good luck moma you got this :muscle::muscle:

I use Always Ultra Thin long or short. I have ALWAYS used this. Iā€™ve tried other products but this is my preference

I bought this for my daughter off of Amazon last year, when she was 10. I read it first to make sure I was ok with the content and to be able to answer any questions she has. It is amazing and age appropriate for teaching her about the changes to her body without getting into detail about sex. She loved it so much that she asked if she could let her best friend borrow it. After talking to her mom, who agreed, my daughter lent her the book. She and her mom also enjoyed it!

My daughter uses the teen ones i get them from walmart there smaller made for there smaller frames

Definitely still using pads, u by kotex has a great line made for teens they are mad smaller to better fit there body.

I have never used anything else but pads i was using carefree and for years it was the only brand id get. Now after having children ive been using maxi pads for 4 years and i dont think ill be going back to anything else.

My daughter is 9 and i order all of her supplies from red drop ! The pads are made smaller and more comfortable for young girls . They also sell period underwear among other period necessities

I would start her on pads but personally I prefer the diva cup the have a smaller one for younger girls.

Look on Amazon for some books. My mom bought me both to try. I used pads for awhile and when I was 16 switch to tampons and now I use a diva cup. Just depends on what she will be comfortable with. I would say most ppl start with pads.

Definitely start her off with pads!!! And it depends on if she is a female with a heavy period or a light period! Buy her thin pads (for the daytime) and heavy pads (for night time)
