Hi guys can you please share how yous get your toddler that HATES the toothbrush to brush their teeth? My 20 month old use to love brushing, then the dentist recommended we switch to adult toothpaste ( higher fluoride ) she instantly became disinterested from the taste, i tried different brands and different brushes etc and she lost interest completely i tried switching back to kids toothpaste and she wasnt having it, fast forward 3 months she now screams and has tantrums when it’s brush time i can barely get the toothbrush near her mouth nevermind the brushing part! Ugh
My 22-month-old likes feeling like he’s in control of things. So I’ll ask him, “Do you want to read a book first, or brush your teeth first?” Another method I found is having two different tooth brushes for him, and I’ll ask, “Which toothbrush would you like to use today?” He tends to be more willing when he thinks it was his decision and not ours.
It’s more important that she brushes her teeth than she uses toothpaste. Honestly you can use coconut oil it just doesn’t taste like mint.
Fluoride is not healthy for anyone except The dentists pocketbook
I said what I said .
Put some children’s toothpaste on a toothbrush and let her chew or “brush” her own teeth something is better than nothing until she’s a bit older and is understanding. Also if you have a tablet or even your smart phone you can put on a fun animated video about brushing while she uses her toothbrush herself my boys loved the aquafresh app for kids.
Get your tooth brush also give the toddler the brush show her your enjoying the brushing show the toddler that the tooth paste has a very good scent allow the toddler to even put for himself tooth paste look like you want his assistance tell him to put for you as well then use words like let’s go and brush, let’s see who does it well ,Number one is a winner and let him win he will always be looking forward to brushing ,entice her stop thinking the toddler will go by your pace and the time you need things done all the best
Toothbrush song by song to wear pants to. Toothbrush song by blippi. I let the kids pick out there toothbrushes. When switching to a new toothpaste I use hardly any at all for a day or 2. I also have water I let them rinse when they want too. It’s a literal Toothbrush party. Also give her something new or interesting to do while brushing. It’ll help take her mind off of it. My one stubborn 2 yr old I tell him I’m gonna brush your teeth whether you allow me to or not. We can have fun or I can fight with you and mama doesn’t want to fight with you. 80 percent of the time that convo works. It takes him a second but he knows he doesn’t want to fight it and I don’t want to look like I’m fighting an alligator.
What a bad call that dentist made. Young kids aren’t even typically seen until around 4 or so. I used a kid’s spin brush, kid’s toothpaste, and kid’s fluoride rinse with mine. U can buy a light up toothbrush or 1 that plays music.
Personally, I’d go back to the toothpaste that they originally were using and see how it goes. Revisit the adult toothpaste again in a couple of months. There’s enough fluoride in tap water that it’s not gonna hurt. If it’s a big concern for the doctor, they can RX some extra fluoride.
Our dentist said it’s the brushing that’s important not the toothpaste
We had a song and made it fun. Or add it in the routine like, mom can’t start bedtime story you haven’t brushed your teeth yet or like people completing her teeth/fresh breath like potty training cheer em’ on, make a chart. Whatever works for ya’ll;)
Because she probably thinks it’s the new kind still. Maybe get her a 360 brush and make it fun
Try using something like this
Go back to the toothpaste you were using before. Brushing with children’s toothpaste is certainly better than not brushing at all. My 10 year old was just given children’s toothpaste last month at the dentist. In fact, the hygienist was the one to reccomend going back to children’s toothpaste, because my son was refusing to brush his teeth because the mint flavor was too strong for him.
I use the toms organic for my kiddos they love it, with the dinosaur floss sticks and bubble gum mouth wash
My kids were the same we got them the kids sonicare and they love it
U shaped tooth brush
Mix a little bit of kids and adults toothpaste my kids don’t like taste and mixed that is what the kid dentist we said if they didn’t brush with adult because of taste
My kids hated to brush their teeth. Then I bought u shaped tooth brushs. Now they brush 2x a day.
There are kids shaped handles ones, also look at what age range it is. 1st round I let them pick out which one they wanted. You cab also buy just the head replacement peice.
She doesn’t need the fluoride. Give her the toothpaste she likes back.
