Needing advice about taxes

I have a question about taxes. So my husband and I got married in June. We have a daughter together. We have always filed separately and I claim my daughter. The reason is, he’s self employed so he pays taxes and never gets anything back. Now that we are married, do we have to file together? It would be so much easier for me to continue filing separate. Not to mention cheaper because I can do my own, but he has to pay someone to do his. Is this legal since we’re married? I’m in Pennsylvania if that matters. (Yes I’m aware of the shut down blah blah blah so no need to even mention it)

You can file separately…but to get the EIC credit…you must file jointly
