I need advice from any moms who are nurses!! I’m unsure if I should go for my ASN or BSN
I’ve always heard that BSN was a dollar more and most places do not care about nurses having a BSN
I started with my ASN and finished with my BSN. Long story short, I went to school in Colorado Springs and was accepted into the ASN program at a local state college. That local state college had a dual enrollment program with the University of Colorado. If you completed your first semester of the ASN program at the state college with a GPA > 3.5 then you could dually enroll into the BSN program at UC. The state college I went to did not have summer nursing courses so I started my BSN course in the summer while also completing my ASN program. When I completed my ASN program, I had already completed 5 of the 11 courses needed to obtain my BSN. Highly recommend finding a ASN-BSN dual enrollment program. I saved a lot of money! When I completed my ASN program/passed my boards I was able to start working immediately. The money I made as a nurse allowed me to pay for the rest of my BSN classes so I never needed to take out any student loans. If you have any questions, I’m more than willing to help! Best of luck to you!
I graduate with my ADN in November, I found I was pregnant with my 3rd baby a week before my teas exam. (She was an oops) but non the less meant to be. Anyhoo I attend a 16 month hybrid program for RN where we doing class/clinicals 2 times a month (Friday-Sunday). And have made it with this, once I graduate I will be able to do 2 more semesters and get my BSN. I really like the “stepping stone” path my college has because it makes it attainable with having a 11,8, and 18 month old.
More importantly, choose your school wisely. Some programs do not have affiliation (not near geographically) with a large hospital. Smaller hospitals usually don’t offer enough clinical time/experience. I got my BSN many years ago. You may have more opportunities for advancement & jobs w BSN.
