Should 2 14 year olds babysit?

i’ve been babysitting since i was 9-10 and now i do it as a part time job. as long as you and the parent(s) are comfortable and you are mature enough i think a 14 year old is perfectly fine to babysit! especially with 2 14year olds they should be fine

My sister way 12yo when they watched my son when he came home from the NICU she also watch him when my mom took me to Vegas she and her friend were 16yo and my son was 4yo. We were gone Thursday to Tuesdsy and were from Montana so we were pretty far. They did amazing!

My 12 year old is more responsible than my almost 18 year old. My 12 year old has watched my 10 7 and 4 year olds for a little while. For longer if the 17 year old is around. I haven’t left him to watch the baby who is 8 months as he is always with me or Dad

11 hours? I would say personally that’s a no. A few hours? Yeah sure, if they’re responsible 14 year olds who know what to do, I don’t see a big issue. 11 hours just seems too long to me. Maybe have a neighbour check in on them if it can’t be avoided? But still I’m extremely sceptical. Doesn’t feel responsible.

Personally I would nor leave a 14 year old in charge of a 10 month old baby. Not a chance. Nor a 2 year old.

Children babysitting children :eyes:

Depends on the 14yr old. My daughter was very responsible at 14 but not all of them are. But I would say it’s pretty usual

I was 8yrs old staying after school by myself. How are single mothers supposed to get by if they’re getting arrested for things like this. There must have been other reasons.

I was babysitting for friends n family and neighbors ect from like 11 12 yrs old up into my teens…so a 14 year old in my opinion is definitely old enough to babysit

My sister (14 last summer) kept my youngest baby while I worked. I think it all depends on the teen and if they’re responsible enough to care for them.

Jesus ! The times have changed ! I was 10 having to cook dinner and look after my two younger brothers ( aged 3 and 4 at the time ) while my parents ran a milk run from 4pm til midnight . No one battered an eyelid

I was 8 when I started babysitting Mt neighbors 1and 2year olds

I would look into state regulations. I know my cousin is in Ohio she said as long as a kid can feed itself it can stay home alone. I don’t personally know but I’d just do research each state is different I’d assume
.

That question honestly depends on your state laws. Some states have minimum age requirements for when a child can babysit, the age group they can babysit at different ages, and max amount of hours they can babysit. Violate those guidelines and get snitched on by a neighbor and find yourself in a storm of trouble with CPS and the police.

My daughter babysat at 13 for a few hours at a time. However NJ law said an adult had to be in the home if she babysat someone’s 1-3 yr old toddler and no infants at that age. So she watched people’s kids in my home with me around but I tried not to hover so she could feel grown. She took a babysitter certification course at the local hospital for toddlers and young kids, and got CPR certified first.
