Should I be concerned with how little my 2-year-old is talking?

My 2 year old was the same. Start him/her in speech. Its usually free through the public schools through their early development program. Once they are 3, it turns into IEP program through the schools. My son is now almost 6 and still in speech. Also, definately get hearing checked!

Make sure you’re taking with her pediatrician, they know what milestones babe should be hitting and if you feel like there’s something wrong, talk to them about a specialist referral, possibly a speech therapist

I didn’t talk until I was 3, just made grunts and noises

My two-and-a-half-year-old communicates what he wants follows commands recognizes things when asked what they are but is not using any words either. early intervention and I’m meeting with them next week and speech-language therapy he’s been on the waitlist for a few months now. All you can do is your best to encourage them and to try taking them to programs, early on is good, with other kids stuff like that. My other son, who is 10 now, I couldn’t understand till he was just over 3.

My grand daughter who is 2 talks up a storm but my grandson who is also 2 doesn’t communicate very well only says a few words. They all learn at their own pace.

I’d say go to your paediatrician instead of asking complete strangers … ?

All kids progress at different rates, doesn’t mean anything is wrong… reading to ur child is extremely important & so is talking to them like you would an adult. ‘How are you today, my love?’. ‘gibberish gibberish’ ’ That’s good, mom’s a little hungry/sleepy etc too. Do u wanna eat/nap/play?’ … soon, Baby will be talking non-stop & you’ll wish you never taught them lol … (jk, you’ll enjoy that sound for the rest of ur life)

My son is a year and a half old. Doesn’t have as big a vocabulary as my first 2 did. Many years between, so he is kind of an only child. He is starting to repeat words for us, but would rather use asl signs we look up to tell us. I was concerned to begin with but he is smart as a whip so I decided to wait and see. Dr said he is fine. Already had an eval done by EES and the only thing he really has “delay” in is his speech.

All kids move at a different pace. My daughter started talking sooner but started walking later. She will get there then you will be begging her to be quiet lol. I would read more books and when you give her different things say what it is you give to her. And dont give into the screaming and pointing when she wants something. My daughter did this. I made her say what it was before i would give it to her.

My son was the same. He didn’t start talking until he was about 3, just keep talking with her, have conversations, you can do exercises with her like take a block and a little table or box and ask her to put the toy on top of the box, under the box, next to the box, inside the box etc. When she gets frustrated try to explain her feelings like “are you angry because I said you couldn’t have a cookie?” Etc. When speaking with her don’t refer to yourself in the 3rd person.

Lots of reading to her, she’ll get there.

My family tells me that my cousin didnt really talk until 3. And when he did start talking he would say decent size words like indentation marks in his leg and other words like that.

My sons 2.5 years old and barely talks but understands most of what I ask him to do… kids are all different and will speak when they are ready… using smaller sentences will help out in the process… we are in speech therapy for him (due to him being tongue tied) to make sure that ain’t the issue. But he’s made progress so far

My soon to be 3, just started talking a lot out of nowhere he understood everything just didn’t want to talk. Now he won’t stop talking

If you talk to your 2 year old like go get your toy or pick a snack you want to eat and they do that then they can hear you and follow easy commands. I had a son who understood all that was said to him but had a hard time telling me what he wanted he did have a severe speech problem I took him to DuPont children’s hospital where specialist assessed him he had a problem with his tongue movement and they sent me in the right direction for therpy ! Took 6 years to get him straight but now can’t shut him up!

My Son didn’t start sentences until almost 3 I wouldn’t worry

First step have her hearing checked
Do not take no for an answer from the pediatrician
Once that outcome is established you will know what direction to take
