Should I be worred that I am already losing my mucus plug?

I have a question, and it may be kinda gross, but I want to see what everyone thinks before I freak out and call a doctor. I’m 19 weeks and two days pregnant, and I went to the bathroom today, and when I wiped, I had a decent-sized ball of mucus on my toilet paper. I know mucusy discharge is normal during pregnancy, but this was the largest amount I have seen so far at one time. It was mostly white/clear (no blood at all). I know the mucus pug shouldn’t come out until you’re full-term and almost ready for labor. Should I be worried?

It can “grow back”. No big deal. Just mention it at your next appointment

I would call your doctor if you are worried

I’d definitely call dr but it’s not uncommon to lose some or all and it develop again

Your mucus plug can actually regenerate, so it’s probably fine :slightly_smiling_face: when in doubt, always call your midwife to be safe. Better safe than sorry

It actually can happen through out and as long your not leaking and it wasn’t bloody you should be fine. Def mention it to your doc but they probably gonna tell you everything is fine

Following… I’ve had the same problem since I was in my 1st trimester. I’m currently 23 weeks and 3 days. I told my doctor about it earlier on and he told me as long as there was no blood I would be perfectly fine. But it has definitely gotten worse. Now I’m concerned :slightly_frowning_face:

The mucus plug regenerates itself and you lose pieces of it throughout your entire pregnancy

I’ve heard it sometimes regenerates and grows a new one. Call your doc tho and let them know! They will tell you what you need to hear.

I aaked my OB and she said you can lose it and it’ll regrow. I lost mine when my water broke with my son but I lost it 4x with my daughter. She was in no way interested in coming out. Lol
If you’re nervous, ask for an appt and get checked
:purple_heart:

I lost mine early on too. Everything was fine and I went into labor naturally closer to my due date

The mucus plug is bloody.

It builds back up. Unless you start bleeding alot, no reason to worry.

I lost a good bit of mine at around 23 weeks with my second. It does grow back. I went full term with her and she was/ is perfectly healthy!

You can lose your mucus plug early and it will grow back but definitely mention it to your doctor

What you describe sounds much more like normal vaginal discharge. With pregnancy, there is much more blood flow to the vaginal area which activates the glands that make normal discharge to go into a overdrive!!The “mucus plug” is a confusing name because it doesn’t actually plug anything!! It’s just a LOT of thick mucus, the exact consistency as grape jelly. If you have pain, cramping, any spotting, or vaginal pressure (something new, not the everyday normal pregnancy pressure) get checked out in your Drs office or your local hospital triage!!

Go the the hospital and at least get it checked out to make sure everything is okay.

I lost mine at about 30 weeks, still had to be induced at 41 weeks. Mucus plug “grows” back. Still wouldn’t hurt to let your doctor know though, just so they are aware.

My last pregnancy I lost my plug at 20 weeks all was fine & babe stayed put until I had to be induced. If you’re worried it doesn’t hurt to call your OB’s office & speak with a nurse.

With my first child, I lost mine when I was 6 months but he stayed and was born a week before his due date. I do have three kids. They are adults now. My other two kids, I didn’t lose my plug the same way. You should probably talk to your obgyn and see what they say.

Im 40 weeks today and have been losing pieces since 30 weeks. Its normal to lose small pieces and it regrow. If youre concerned call your dr. My dr said its normal

Make sure you are not losing water with the mucus plug.

I heard it comes back? I would make sure your not leaking. I would call your doctor just to find out more.

Mucus plugs grow back. They can be lost several times throughout pregnancy

Never assume anything is normal during pregnancy. Call your dr, let him/her know and see what they think you should do.

Loosing it isn’t an indication of labor. It can grow back.

My mucus plug was huge and bloody and disgusting I lost it after my water broke and I was in active labor

The mucus plug is not an indicator of labor. I was told around 20w we can see a bit more discharge because of increase of hormones and you can lose pieces of it as it grows back. If there is fresh blood in it, it’s called a bloody show. And as long as it didn’t happen after intercourse may be an indicator of labor.

Get checked out as i did at 22 weeks and then my water went, had to in to hospital and stop labour and have magnesium and be taken to a hospital that as a unit for baby’s that are born really early xxx

It regenerates and I’ve had friends tell me theirs did something similar. Mine didn’t come out until the night before I had her though so doesn’t hurt to mention it to your doctor.

Mine came out in pieces when I was 33 weeks and had my baby at 39 weeks.

I wouldn’t worry, it will grow back if your Braxton Hicks get real strong then go get seen is what I would do but never hurts to call

Mine was bloody but my doctor told me I had 3-4 more weeks to go…nope, she came 6 days later at 36 weeks. I was also having contractions all 6 days though. You’re going to get all kinds of different answers on here…best advice is call your doctor. Or even go to an ER…I went all the time during my pregnancy to the ER (not just any ER though) I always went to the one at the hospital I was going to have her at to get things checked that I was worried about and didn’t care what anybody thought!! Sometimes they have more ways to check on you and the baby than the doctors office. Go if you feel like you need to go!!

As someone who has lost a baby please get checked. Don’t ever put it off. If you are worried it’s best to get checked. I’d rather be told I’ve got nothing to be concerned about by a medical professional who knows my history than a bunch of women on a forum. I can’t stress this enough. Please get checked!!

You should get checked out just in case but it could just be mucous discharge. But if it is your mucous plug, that is something that needs addressed for only 19 weeks.

It amazes me how many people have similar experiences with different outcomes and those who it turned out alright for can make a mockery of such a situation.

She has every right to be concerned; this is the life of her baby!

Just because your circumstances turned out alright doesn’t mean everyone’s does!

Yes, she should absolutely get checked by HER doctor. Someone familiar with her medical history, family medical history and such. Something that might clue them in further to something the urgent care would miss and thus, according to some, laugh her out of the building.

Just because some of you haven’t had horrible experiences doesn’t mean you should give advice on the matter. And just because everything turned out OK for you doesn’t make this a laughing matter for everyone.

Some of you should be ashamed for your comments, especially if this turns out being something serious; perhaps try speaking as though karma is going to return to you!

O.P. urgent care/e.r. can and may miss something. Try to get into your o.b. right away. If you haven’t chosen one yet then try to get into your primary care physician.

Consult your doctor. I had a similar thing happen it ended up not being a problem but definitely ask a doctor.

If you are concerned and positive that is what it is, never hurts to get get checked for a piece of mind.

The mucus plug will regenerate itself most times when your body is not ready to give birth and if it is not bloody etc you should be okay.

But don’t be afraid to get checked for a piece of mind! Better safe than sorry! Also be sure to make you doctor aware of what happens just so they have something to watch for! Don’t let the ignorant comments get to you…

Good luck and I hope everything turns out alright for you and the little one! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Out of all of these comments are any of them OBGYN’S i doubt it… so please sweetie call your drs. Office it may be Nothing but could be something. And only a dr can tell you. If you don’t have an dr yet try an urgent care or er. I personally would not trust my health or my babies health to a fb group. Sorry not sorry. Hugs

It’s common to get a yeast infection at that time… but definitely check with your doctor

Walking into a urgent care or er…

How can i help you?

Im losing my mucas plug

Hundred and something dollars later you leave getting laughed at and told it grows back.

:joy::rofl:

Tell your doctor so they’re aware but it’s nothing to worry about. I lost mine and still needed to be induced. If you’re having steady contractions, go in.

I wouldn’t be concerned. As long as there’s no blood, you’re good. They regenerate - losing pieces of them is quite common.

Still get checked out, but that could be totally normal. I got a terrible sinus infection that needed antibiotics when I was maybe 12 weeks pregnant and all the stress my body was under I ended up losing a good portion of it but, but from what my doctors told me, that was pretty common. I still had a healthy baby at 35 weeks (I had other issues so the earliness wasn’t because of the plug)

Personally I’d go get checked out just to be in the safe side I’ve heard you can loose it multiple times, but it’s better to be on the safe side.

Get checked out but it does regenerate so I don’t think its a huge factor ATM.

I lost mine at 26 weeks. I went and got checked. Just for piece of mind. My doc said it can grow back. But to not take baths anymore only showers bc I could get an infection. Mine never grew back and I’m 37 weeks today. I’ve been 3.5 cm dilated and 80% effaced for a month now. Everyone’s body is different. But I would def call the doctor and let them know so they can give you more accurate advise

I had the same thing happen to me so I DID call my OB. I was told that mucus plugs can grow back until you are ready for labor. I was also told the mucus plug can be lost weeks before full term. But if you are truly worried about it then I would call your OB.

i’m 36 weeks and i still get a laugh in the face when i mention mucus plugs to my midwives. they pretty much don’t care or seem to believe in them even if they are bloody. they say they regenerate and don’t matter unless it is accompanied with contractions

Over time you lose it (from what I was told by my doctor) but it does grow back

I wouldn’t worry unless I developed a second symptom.

I would still get checked the same thing happened to me and apparently my cervix was starting to shorten and I ended up having to get a cerclage at 20 weeks

You do realise that when you do lose your mucus plug, it does grow back.

I’d definitely ask your doctor about it. I’ve had people tell me they lost it really early and it didn’t do anything. I lost it for my second pregnancy 39 weeks and hard labor started within hours. I’d definitely call your doctor see what he or she says.

Definitely get checked to make sure everything is good. But just a question have you had sex recently? Because I do know that it could be from that if you have.

Mucus plug will actually regenerate itself!

Any worry or concern you have in your pregnancy please go get checked! I only had braxton hicks and went to the hospital as it didn’t feel right (luckily it was normal) xxx

Can’t remember how far I was - Maybe only 14/15 weeks and I lost a fair amount of mine also. I am now 32 weeks and everything to do with my little one is perfect

I say consult with a obgyn just to be safe never play around with health

It’s common to even have more than one mucous plug. If you feel concerned, call your doctor

Tell your doctor but it isn’t usually an issue to lose pieces of your mucus plug. If you aren’t having contractions, don’t stress about it but make sure your OB is aware so they can keep an eye on things if they are worried about it.

My first pregnancy I lost my plug in bird and pieces over the course of the 2ns trimester all the way till the end. It remakes itself to keep your baby safe up untill you fully lose the entire plug. Nothing to worry about unless it contains some blood

Call your Dr, but I lost mine like 9 times :sleepy: sometimes they just don’t wanna stay. I lost one at 16 weeks and everything was fine. Maybe you have an irritated cervix

It’s about to get even more gross…if you have concerns go to your doctor but that is not your mucus plug.

My advice, talk to your doctor in the morning unless you start having pain or anything out of the normal, then hospital asap.

Unless it’s a shockingly large amount of thick mucus with blood then you are ok.

I lost mine 3 weeks before i gave birth but ended up with a infection get it checked out

I would get checked out. Some times mucus plugs will grow back especially if it was only a small piece that fell out

You can lose your mucus plug more than once . It regenerates

I lost my mucus plug 6 times before I actually went into labor. It’s normal. I went into the doc the first two times out of paranoia but it can be normal. Especially if you’ve had sex recently. The first time I lost it was at 12 weeks

If its is pink or a peachy color or just looks like blood or is brown then be worried if it has none of those colors you are good I have 6 girls been through this 6 different times, but if you are worried it’s better to get it checked out by your dr to be safe

I lost mine at 20 weeks. With my current pregnancy my 4th baby

They regrow on their own there are plenty of layers to keep your baby safe from infection until I grows back.

I wouldn’t worry unless it was bloody

Mention it to your dr but I think that the mucous plug can actually “regrow” as well

Mucus plug grows back so don’t be alarmed everything should be fine

Mucus plug grows back I lost mine twice with my 3rd pregnancy

Please get checked out. I lost mine and had early labour 3 days later xxx

Go to the doctor, i lost mine in the morning and i had my baby at night.

I would consult your dr just so they know what’s going on but your mucus plug regrows

That’s quite common. You’ll have that a lit during pregnancy.

Get checked do NOT listen to what the next person did because just remember EVERY pregnancy is different from the next!

Deffo get checked but some women lose it early on but your body can build it up again

Always get checked if your worried, but sounds like a normal pregnancy side effect.

Why are you asking people here? GO TO THE DOCTOR!

Nope. You can shed and regrow one over and over

Mucus plug can come out anytime it actually rebuilds

It should regenerate unless you start to see blood you should be fine. Mention to dr in next visit

It’s normal to loose your mucus plug and it will grow back.

Definitely call doctor to make sure baby it’s the trying to drop early

Should definitely go get it checked, but should be alright hopefully

I lost mine very early an was told they can grow back :flushed: get yourself checked tho best thing to do x

Definitely call your OB; if you truly lost your plug, it can become an entry for infection.
