Should I report my nieces car seats?

I recently went to my dad’s and he had my nieces. They are 1&2 years old. Their car seats were both there and they didn’t have any of the padding that comes on the seats. They were both just plain plastic and one had the Styrofoam broken in two spots. The other carseat had the label rubbed off so I couldn’t see if it was expired or not. These are their main carseats that the parents use for them. Is it even legal? Do I report this to someone? I can’t find anything online saying whether or not it’s safe or legal. I don’t see how it can be.

Help a mama out and respond anonymously on our forum. Should I report my nieces car seats? - Mamas Uncut

I’m sure you could Google local agencies where you live that give free car seats! I personally wouldn’t report them! :woman_shrugging:t4:

Not safe. But why wouldn’t you just say something to the parents or your dad? They’re family and getting CPS or authorities involved is serious, if you can solve this with a convenient then you should.

Why wouldn’t you just talk to your sister about it?

Why not just talk with them?

Is there any way that you can help get them new ones instead of reporting them?

The cosco scerna seat should fit most 1& 2 year olds and they are only about 55$ a seat

Is it possible to maybe help them out & raise some money to replace them for the sake of the children instead introduce legal troubles ??

How about help your niece out !! If you know she can’t afford them buy them for her ! Seems like you are jealous or a miserable person . Family first right ! God help the niece and auntie you are horrible

Depends on what state you live in. In ca the highway patrol can check your seats and help you get free ones, if needed

or maybe jst discuss it with their parents & help them get newer ones 🫤

Not safe at all but why report them if you’re not gonna say anything directly to them? They’re family, family should be able to tell each other things like this, especially when it comes to our babies

Maybe instead of reporting and starting issues, check different resources. Alot of places u can get free car seats. I got 2 free for my kids from the fire department. Then When they out grew them and needed the bigger car seats I just had to trade them in for new ones.

Instead of reporting them how about talk to them. Maybe they can’t afford new seats.

If you can afford to get them some please do. Or look up a place that gives them out. Maybe they can’t afford new ones

Why don’t you talk to their parents first before you go off and tattle? Then if they don’t listen report it. Maybe they don’t have money and need help?

help them out & buy new ones

Maybe offer to buy new ones first?

Why not try to help them instead? They may be having some difficulties and could use a hand. If otherwise the children are loved and taken care of, don’t open a can of worms.

If it bothers you and think it’s unsafe for the kids, talk to their parents see why, could be financial issues or you could offer to buy them new, those are your nieces, they’re family…why report if there’s no evidence of abuse or neglect?? You sound like a petty auntie

Why don’t you help them instead of report them?

How about buy them one!

I would definitely say that’s very unsafe especially with how little they are. They need padding to protect their heads in case of any accidents and just to make sure they aren’t just bouncing around on the plastic seat with no cover. That has to be hard on their little bodies. I’d definitely be talking to the parents and letting them know that’s not safe and I’d make it a point that they need to either put the coverings on or buy new ones.

In CA, I believe, if you cannot afford safe car seats, the Highway Patrol or one of the child welfare places will donate. I know that when a child is born and there is no car seat to take them home one is provided. Check your local area for resources.

Maybe help them buy new ones. Jesus

Instead of creating more drama why don’t u ask her why the carseats are the way they are?? Maybe offer to buy new ones?? Or tell her about the free wic program just saying life is hard on alot of us these days

If you can’t buy then make your concerns known to your Dad & let him make the call as to whether to bring it up or not.

Just get them new ones and stop acting like you’re better than them. 🤷

Unless your niece is a junkie or beating/neglecting the kids. Why would you even think to report her??!

honestly, they could be having money issues and a cheap one was all they could afford. it’s better than no car seat. ALTHOUGH, i think if you’re concerned, maybe try to help them with getting a better one? or help raise money for one?

reporting it isn’t always the answer. i’ve seen that a good bit in this group, if not another one where people wanna report parents for things that can be helped by others and it’s honestly weird especially if the parents are taking care of the child and are doing the best that they can with what they have.

Talk to parents, educate them, if a money issue - maybe help them. Depending on your area there could be places that help provide them for free. They are family - why report?!?!

Instead of possibly ruining your family’s life and those babies if your that concerned why don’t you buy them or at least pitch in. Carseats are expensive and I agree I would never let my kids ride in such conditions but you do t know anything try having a convo with parents.

If my nieces needed car seats I’d buy them or ask friends and family to all go in on them. That’s what family is for.

Send them to the nearest fire department and once they tell them they have financial hardships they will give them car seats and help them strap them in the car. No need to report them, just give them a helping hand

It appears they are
Out of date and unsafe . Why don’t you speak to your sibling . Most likely they can’t afford new ones . Maybe you and the rest of your family could buy new ones!

Be an adult and have a civil conversation about your concern. Maybe even provide education materials validating your concerns.

Maybe speak to them first instead of straight to should I report, no you should freaking not. We’re grown adults so act like one.

How about buy them new ones instead of making life harder for someone else.

Buy them some if it’s “bothering” you so much. Reporting them is gonna do what?? Ridiculous!

it’s just kind of shocking to me seeing the questions that are sometimes asked in this group not gonna lie.

the answer is obvious.

It is not legal. Tell your neice there are places to get safe cars seats. If she doesn’t fix it call cps

How about if you see if they need help…instead of trying to give them more problems???

Or you can just buy new ones for your nieces instead of posting a stupid question in here …

like so many people anymore think “oh no this child has a missing part from their toy, are they taking care of their child? should i report it?” like??? what the actual hell.

anyone thought maybe there is a reason why the OP hasn’t approached the parents. gosh, could be any number of reasons hence asking the question here. also, the OP might not have the funds to just go out and buy 2 new seats. I mean, money isn’t falling from the sky for anyone at the moment.

Me personally. they are not safe. once the padding is compromised, then there is no protection in a collision. If you can’t speak with the parents or your dad and make them aware of it, then if you have some spare money, just replace them. if not, then try to contact your local break down assistance companies and see if they have a swap system that might allow you to trade up.

Not sure of all that’s going on, but that’s family you help family, you don’t cut them down or try to cause problems for them YOU HELP THEM!! Just as easy to ask for help on this page as to try and get justification for the BS of wanting to report them…

Why don’t you buy them new car seats… Aunt of the decade!

Not legal and not safe. Cut the straps. Shell be forced to buy them new ones. And if she cant afford both new seats id offer to help

There are resources to help people with obtaining new car seats.

Could you talk to your niece and ask her first. If it were my Niece I’d talk to her and if it were a financial issue I would offer to buy her new car seats.

They obviously need help. Having children that close in age is hard.
So, instead of calling them in, and reporting them, figure out a productive way to help instead of a way to make it worse.
If you’re afraid they’ll be embarrassed, tell them you won them in a raffle.

Why report ? Seems like an extreme thing to do when you can just open your mouth and tell the parents they need to get better ones for their kids

Why would you even think about reporting it ?? Talk and try and help first would be the appropriate action.

Fuck. What is WRONG with you??? Just talk to the mum? Maybe they cant afford better seats? This is whats wrong with the world. Judgemental. I cant believe you would REPORT your own family for something like that. Sounds like youre petty asf.

Car seats typically expire after 6 years. Why dont you just ask and give it a break. Wanting to report family smh ok Karen

How about helping out instead of going straight to authorities. Stupid question i guess. Unless yr bitter towards the parents.

Fuckwit. Offer help instead of reporting your family for dumb shit. I’d understand if he tied the babies to the roof racks.

Report them? Thats Nasty absolutely disgusting your own blood, fckkk I would hate to be your friend …

The police station in our area gives them away for free to people in need!

There are lots of cheap in good condition car seats out there. Find a couple for your sister and replace them if your concerned.

Report them?? As in, to CPS or the police? What kind of person are you? That would cause so many problems in yours and their lives…including the babies.
Send them a YouTube link about car seat safety, or better yet, TALK to them.

The fact that out of all of the questions you asked and NONE of them were, "Where can I go to get help getting them safer car seats?, tells me all I need to know about you. No wonder your post is anonymous…

How about having a conversation with your dad or buying him new car seats. Report it to who ?!

Seems like you have nothing better to do but looking for things to start trouble for your family. No it’s not safe but since your so worried about it maybe you should buy them new ones. Don’t cause your family trouble.

Buy them new seats. They don’t have to be special.

Please put them in your shoes. Would you rather have someone report you or help you? Being a parent is hard af for anyone - so ALWAYS help first, you never know someone’s shortcomings.

If you’ve spoken to them about the safety of the car seats and they haven’t done anything. Then yes I would 10000% report to anyone and everyone. Those childrens safety should be the #1 priority
There are services available that will help with the cost or atleast half the cost of the car seats. I would be sending them all the links of child injuries of unsafe car seats!

I’d tell them that the car seats like this aren’t safe. Maybe they don’t realize or need help getting a new seat. They have cheap ones at Walmart. FYI: If you get a used seat from somewhere you have to really trust the person when they tell you it hasn’t been in an accident cause if it has you can’t use it.

Help them out and offer to either buy them new ones or help them get new ones!! Don’t report them!! Wow!!

Wow you’re a special breed.

If your nieces were covered in bruises or underweight and being abused - that would be one thing. Why don’t you be HELPFUL and buy a couple of gently used car seats instead of a snag that reports family? Perhaps your sister is struggling and needs some supportive guidance. Come on…

how could u evan think of reporting your family :rage: speak to them and explain or evan but them new ones as a gift if u that concerned but reporting them how vile

Could your dad have removed them to throw them in the wash? If not and if I had the means, I’d just go get a couple of new car seats to send them home in.

Oh geez those poor babies, not only would they be fricken sore for them to sit in but dangerous. Any chance you can buy them some cheap second hand ones… ones that give comfort and safety. Imagine being stuck in one of those for too long, no cushion and on a long ride… ask your dad to help get some more seats for them. Or if your sister can actually afford more, voice your concerns, she will or should feel bad for providing her children with unsafe and uncomfortable car seats.

Was he playing a joke on you and had thrown both car seat linings into the wash because sometimes the car seats will tend to get dirty ; so the best thing for the situation is to wash the car seat when the parent or gaurdian can and then just put the clean car seat back together again.

Instead of reporting them…buy them new ones…they can b used… maybe ur dad don’t have alot of monet…n at least they have one…what person reports their sister over a car seat??? That leads to way worse shit n probably uncalled for
