Go to the local fire station or police depart to see if they have ones they can give you. Now if the parents are unwilling to accept those then yes I would report them.

I wouldn’t report but I’d definitely speak up and not wait a second longer to do so. Because God forbid if anything happened and you knowingly didn’t say anything to them or try to help better the situation….think about it.
Yeah that’s a crappy thing to even think. If they bother you so much then you can buy some new ones as a gift. What kind of person risks their siblings kids? You do know what goes down in foster homes, right? Like dont get me wrong, some people actually do care but some people are abusers and you are tossing up a coin as to where these kids will end up.

Instead of being a rat why don’t you help her out and buy new one’s for the kids. Sounds like you’re bitter and vindictive about something. If they don’t have the means to buy new, I wouldn’t report. I would find cheap new seats to help them- or a safe used car seat.
Unless you are talking about neglected children- that is a different story.
Be a good loving real aunt and buy them new car seats.Instead of trying to hurt them.What happens if you report it. Then both get taken away and placed in cps . Then who ever ends up with them is way worse and they’re hurt or maybe molested. Your gonna be responsible for that.Your a terrible family member for even thinking like that. I don’t get along with my brother in-law.I would never want any harm to his kids.

Replace them if it concerns you. By reporting them, Childrens Aid could get involved, and you could possibly lose them to foster homes. Be a better person and help not hinder the situation.

There is an expiration date at the bottom of the seats also and there are places that help with free cars seats try and look something like that up in your area

A lot of the older style seats have the sticker on the bottom of the seat or under babes bum, under where the fabric should be for babes bum…
Being old doesn’t mean it isn’t safe, some have 7yrs or longer of life. BUT they aren’t supposed to be used without the padding. Broken Styrofoam is ok depending on the seat, some tell you to tape it back on, some say discontinue use, some say it’s just fine. Depends on manufacturer guidelines.
That being said, calling the police or dcs won’t do a thing. Cops can only interfere if she’s driving, and they won’t do anything in this situation because the kids have seats. Dcs/cps dropped my foster daughter off to me (she was 2.5) in an infant seat. She’d outgrown it months before. The workers rarely have the right seats, and they’re often expired. Dcs won’t do anything.
I’d work towards getting them new seats, there are some super cheap options out there and you could look through safekids.org to find places giving away free seats if you can’t afford to help!
If she’s anything like some of the people I know tho. Having new seats won’t matter

Just go buy them new car seats. Reporting them to CPS is way wrong. No one wants to open that can of worms. Also, there are organizations that give free car seats to those in need.

Depends. Talk to the parents, if they can’t afford 2 new seats maybe the family can help them. Also there are agencies that can help as well. Reporting them will get CPS involved as well as the police. Last resort, not first.

Why would you go straight to reporting them? Do you want your nieces taken? Why wouldn’t you ask them if they needed help buying new ones and nicely say the ones aren’t safe that they need new one’s? Help your family don’t try and destroy them. Seeing as the car seats are the only concern you stated just help them get new ones.

I’ll get them both seats.
They’re not going to be brand-new but they will be comfortable, safe and then your sibling won’t be worried that you’re going to get their children investigated and potential taken away.
But it could be the case that, maybe they were both being washed?
Not saying I would use mine in that moment but maybe that was there only option?
I really suggest sitting down, speaking with the parents, while you’re there ask them if they would like me to help

Being an aunt myself my first thought isn’t let’s get her kids taken how about go buy them new seats or find her some resources to help her especially if this the only thing that is wrong. If there is more wrong find out what you can do to help child services should be a last resort unless you know them babies are 100% being abused

Buy them new car seats! You can get them for less than 100$. See if there’s programs that’ll help them out. (WIC has a car seat program here in California)

Maybe you should stop judging them and offer to help. Maybe that’s all they had because they can’t afford new or even used ones. Offer to help purchase different seats. They may not even know it is unsafe. Carsest safety isn’t really taught unless you make it a point to learn. I wouldn’t “report” someone having a hard time; I would help.

In my area there is a local program that will buy a new car seat or help pay for one. See if there is a place in your area. Before reporting anything the best thing to do is reach out to your family member. You can be like “I noticed my nieces car seats are missing the padding and the styrofoam is broken, I want them to be safe, do you need help buying new ones?” And go from there.

They’re family and your first instinct is to “report them” instead of seeing if they need help getting a proper child safety seat? I can understand if you’ve brought it up and they’ve combated you on the issue but just going off what is stated I would take several steps before reporting them to anyone and potentially making the situation worse.

If you don’t want to buy them new ones, then there should be other resources to help provide car seats. Or you can find some lightly used unexpired ones at a thrift store.
Instead of reporting YOUR FAMILY maybe do some research into getting them some slightly used or a program that provides a new one. Their situation could be that they just cannot afford one and are struggling.
Maybe help her get new ones. Don’t be mean just ask her maybe she had washed them and still wet give her chance to tell you 
Supper petty, if they can’t afford it help them out. You could offer to help buy new car seats or even point them in the right direction to get free car seats they might not be aware of. Smh, the person who wrote this is despicable and petty and just wants to cause trouble. I’d say the real bad guy in all of this is the person who wrote this.

I’d say instead of reporting it, maybe be supportive and see what you can do to help them get new ones. Sometimes parents, especially young, new parents are doing what they can with the resources and knowledge they have and need some help. I’m sure they would appreciate the investment into their childrens safety quicker than being made to feel like they are inadequate.

If I were you and that concerned, I’d buy new seats. Clearly they’re struggling if their seats aren’t up to date. You don’t just report people if you actually care about the well being of the kids, you make sure the kids are taken care of if you care about the kids.

I mean youd know the situation best, maybe they do have the money and just don’t properly care for the kids? It happens I mean we all see these little ones in Walmart dead of winter and they’re in a diaper while mom and dad are wearing decent coats and dressed warm… just saying it’s not unheard of so I’m not jumping to conclusions.
If the seats are just the final straw and the babies are being mistreated or neglected yes you absolutely should do something regardless of what that is to try to keep them safe but if it’s simply an issue that maybe they don’t know it’s not safe or can’t afford new seats you can buy cheap replacements at Walmart/target just make sure they’re the right seats for the kids/vehicles. Also sending some info about safe carseat usage and laws in your area may be needed if she doesn’t know.
To answer the other part, no that’s not safe.

Honestly, the only time my daughter’s car seat is in the house is when the cover is getting washed. The plastic usually looks pretty disgusting then too, but it all gets cleaned and put back together before it goes back in the car. Maybe they were just washing them.
