Should I report my nieces car seats?

Pony up or mind your business.

Don’t report ur sister instead talk to her about it maybe the covers are being washed at the moment or maybe she is having money issues and can’t afford new ones. If it’s money issues offer to help her to get new ones for ur niece and nephew but I wouldn’t report them and cause more issues because then ull get ur niece and nephew put into the system and the parents put into jail or something. Offer ur family help rather than reporting them.

They probably don’t know that they can get a free car seat. Send them this link.

I’m not sure if you’re referring to reporting the actual seats to the manufacturer or if you’re talking about reporting the parents because of the unsafe seats BUT I’d say both options could be handled better. If the padding/covers were removed by the parents the manufacturer won’t do anything about the seats aside from MAYBE replacing the covers if they are able but that would depend on model and age of seat and whether or not they still make it. Reporting the parents could hurt them more than help and maybe that’s exactly what they need is just someone to help. Not everyone can afford nice car seats and they are expensive in general. But if you need a car seat and have ones like your nieces have then they have to use what’s on hand because they would be safer in those carseats even without the padding than they would be without carseats at all. If you truly want to help your family and your nieces maybe talk to other family members about putting $10-$15 a piece to help them get new carseats or something of the sort. If you have around 7 family members able to chip in $15 each or even $10 if they don’t have much to spare that should be enough to cover 2 carseats that will fit their age and size. The Costco ones are around $50 each but they are convertible so they can transition from rear facing to forward facing when they are ready so they will last longer. People are so quick to judge but not so quick to lend a helping hand if it’s clearly needed.

Why in the world should this person have to buy her sister and husband new car seats! They should grow up and take care of there kids! Help is one thing… Maybe talk to them about it and help them if they need help… and if you can afford it… other wise it sucks but mind your own business unless the kids are in danger…

Go buy them new ones?

U sound like a jealous vindictive Karen who probably can’t have kids just saying

Covers were probably in the wash

Or instead of reporting why not go buy ur family the seats instead of causing a problem. Yes it’s not safe to have the seat Padless and where I live if the Styrofoam is broken it’s defective and u can be charged. Mine broke my my sister went and bought me a new one that day don’t be the average everyday pos and be supportive to ur family even if u buy em and be like here so ur kids are safe. Atleast they have something some people don’t even use car seat unfortunately

They could have been getting washed but if at your dads lien that doesn’t seem to be the case. Just know reporting them could open a big investigation and ruin your relationship. Try talking to them first or even buy a new one and say I noticed their seats were a little worn so I got you some new ones. Or if you have kids in similar ones. Get new for you and pass down your seats that you know are safer and have all required parts. If they still want to continue using the seat and say they will than k would definitely confided saying something to someone else. Does your dad know they should be used in that condition? I don’t agree with others that your vindictive or being a Karen. Car seat safety is something you don’t know until taught at times.

The expiration date is usually on the bottom of the seat.
Maybe you could ask in your local group, if anyone can help with new ones.

I would consider buy them new ones, and there are a lot of place that will help

I wouldn’t report them since it’s family,I would buy them new ones. Family is supposed to help out not be judgemental.

Maybe the covers are being washed… that is your family. If you feel that strongly about it… buy them a new one… or sit back. Parents go through alot. I’m sure your sibling doesn’t need you bad mouthing them over something thats probably a simple misunderstanding.

Purchase new car seats for them and be a part of a positive solution.

Report them? How about gift them new ones.

Instead of making the problem worse why not try to help it by helping them get car seat covers .hun right now people are going threw so much ,and you wanna be so petty as to complain over a car seat cover ,dear thats not the way to be.please think how you would wanna be treated if the shoe were on the other foot

Let her know she can swap them out at the police station for free. She may need help getting new ones. I’m not sure of her finances. Talk to her about it.

First step.is to express your desire to help your nieces be secure. Without the padding, the car seats are NOT secure. If your sibling is amenable to making the improvement BUT funds are an issue, offer to reach out to agencies that help with this. If that doesn’t work, shop for used ones BUT check the dates as car seats actually EXPIRE. Lastly offer to contribute to buy new ones. We are assuming the issue is a financial one. Using these seats is not in compliance with the child safety seat belt laws …and those babies need more protection

Buy them new seats then.

I’m not saying not to be concerned about your nieces, but I WOULD say maybe go about it a different way

Why not buy them new ones? Or even see if there’s a place to get free ones in your area. Once you report someone it’s such a hassle to go through for your family. Talk to them about it don’t report. Unless there’s harm going on please don’t overload already stressed out or down right bad social workers when they would be needed somewhere else.

You can start something that ends up with someone in jail. Help them out. Go buy car seats. If they are as bad as you say even hand me downs would work. Some people just can’t afford the “best”. And like it was said before — maybe the padding was being washed. Don’t start legal crap it is awful to go to prison for something you didn’t do or something you can’t help.

Sheesh these comments are trash like no one cares about kids safety . If I see a kid in a unsafe situation I’m reporting that shit family or not. Maybe in this situation I’d talk to the parents first and explain why it’s unsafe and how your worried . I’m no way I op financially responsible for these kids and shouldn’t have to buy them a car seat ! You have kids then you need to keep them safe and take care of them no excuses . There are resources for this kind of stuff and before someone comes at me about being broke. We are a single income family with 3 kids in car seats and another on the way . Living on 35,000 a year and all my kids are in safe car seats at all times! If she has the money to buy them new ones and wants to then sure that’s great but it’s the parents job.

You’re going to report your own family instead of helping them out? Why not reach out and ask where they are first and if you can help?

Maybe help the parents purchase a new one. They are expensive. Sweet of you to be a concerned aunt. Help them.

Report your own parents :scream: nooooo

Just buy them new ones.

The covers could be getting washed. If you’re concerned then talk to them. Do not call CPS over this, that would take time away from potential important cases. Try Marketplace, places donate carseats, even Walmart has good prices on some.

This the type of shit that gets kids taken away by cps . Jsss how do some of you still have your kids :hushed::persevere:

Maybe you and your dad can find 2 car seats at a second hand store still in great condition. Send a helping hand first.

Damn who need enemies with family like you.

Can you afford new seats? If so, get them new ones.

I’m going to assume you do not like whoever the mom is. May it be your sister/nieces mom. I would never think to “call someone” over this and instead offer to help. Are you trying to get these girls taken away? What’s your motive in all of this.

Ask them and tell them it’s completely unacceptable

Rather than act like this why not buy them new ones? You could be that person that reports it OR be a better person and help out by buying them some? It don’t have to be fancy ones. It’s a shame your first thought was to report your own family rather than to step up and help. Even second hand ones are fine. My baby car seat was second hand and it was the best one I ever had.

If possible, give them advice on good ones. Help them navigate the fb marketplace if need be for replacements. Help them.

Instead of reporting them. Find resources in your city that offers free car seats. Call and find out. Ask for the car seats according to the ages. Pick them up and give them to your neices.

Maybe see if she could use some help with getting new ones…y’all so quick to make these calls but maybe she could use some help getting new ones and if you’re that worried you could help instead calling it in.

There’s so many ways to handle the situation! Such as open communication about your concerns or taking your concerns and purchasing her new car seats or googling it and seeing if there’s a local program that will swap out and expired / damaged car seat for a new one that’s not expired and has padding. My mind is blown that you would rather call someone then talk about it with the actual person that it’s affecting. You seem like a real piece of work Karen I’m sure your niece just loves you to death!!!

MAYBE she can’t afford new ones. If you can’t afford to go to Walmart or target and get her new ones, or check fb market place for used unexpired accident free- you can visit the local police station and ask if they have a program for moms in need that has free seats.
Unless the kids are neglected or abused- do NOT report her for the seats.
HELP her fix the problem.

Buy 2 new car seats then…

Why not get her new ones and most fire departments or wic offices may be able to help get her new ones

There were no car seats when I was a kid. Our truck didn’t even have seatbelts and we would sit in t;he back too. My God.

Cps won’t do anything about car seats. Being poor isn’t a crime

I’m so sad to see this kind of post! Asking if you should report your own sister for the car seats she’s using. Yes completely unsafe, however maybe find a way to help her keep your nieces safe. I’m sure if you put the effort that was put into this post to a sales page, and say car seat needed. Check dates and help get safer car seats. Or reporting her May just keep you from seeing your nieces, cause a hardship between the two of you. Could get cause issues with her immediate home. I would suggest offering her help, if you can’t afford it maybe just help reach out. Look through resources together, Facebook sales pages, local resale pages, maybe make a post. Churches or other helpful organizations. I donated 5 car seats last year.

However reporting instead of helping?…

They maybe able to go to their local health department or fire department and get new car seats for the little ones.

Why don’t you just buy them new carseats as a gift of love…

You could offer to help buy them knew ones or to help them find resources that will help them get a free one. Maybe they don’t have the money to replace them. Reporting seems like overkill when you could just speak to them about it and see what you can do to help.

Maybe you buy them two new car seats or give them resources to get new car seats, because they can’t afford it or having some problems. What kind of person even thinks this or asks this kind of question :interrobang:

How about you try and help first? Maybe they cant afford them? Dont be so quick to report smfh.

Buy your nieces new, safe car seats. We all know those girls are not safe in the current seats. The # 1 priority is their safety.
After that, you figure out Why they had those seats and if they need anything else. Everyone struggles and they do their best with what they have. If thats the case, just help out those kids and dont try to get the parents in trouble.
If its a case of intentional neglect, then you know what you have to do but make sure youre 10000% sure youre right

Why dont you help them through family programs/resources to get new car seats instead of tattle tailing on them? Most parents are doing the best they can… Shaming them for not being able to get a “new” carseat is pretty petty darlin

Omg take them to a car seat swap out try to find free non expired ones on a fb free site anything to help or educate be turning them in. I am a mandated reporter and still would go above and beyond to help vs turning one in for something they may not know.

My solution would be to go out and buy the dang car seats even if it wasn’t in my budget it would go on a credit card or I would be saving before I ever thought to report my own family.

I don’t understand how you’re even taking the time to ask if you should or shouldn’t.

Okay there is no reason to call her names first off!!
She was asking a question. Yes, none of us are happy that she said “report”, but also…having two children the sister should know that she needs padding in the car seats. Also, did you confirm with your parents to make sure that they weren’t washing the padding or if your sister was? Again, like everyone else said ASK YOUR SISTER. Don’t go assuming. Don’t go wanting to report the very first thing you see. Sit down and talk to her.
And for the record, you ladies that are calling her names should be upset with yourselves. This page is for help, not bashing someone even if you don’t agree with what they say nor the question they’re asking!

Maybe help get new ones instead of getting him arrested or visited by DSS?? Just a thought. Not having the padding isn’t legally required. As long as the child fits correctly. The broken Styrofoam isn’t even illegal, per se. It’s recommended you replace them.
If the first thought you had was to get someone in trouble, maybe you should sit this one out and let a church help.
Sometimes ppl simply don’t know and need help. It’s not hard to be a decent human.

Have you talked to your siblings or your parents about your concerns? Are they ignoring you or do they need help? Can you afford to help them with new seats or find someone to help them with new seats? I wouldn’t jump straight to reporting them but the way this reads I almost think something else may be going on here. My nieces are like my bonus kids, no matter what I have going on with their moms I always look out for them and if they needed new seats I’d figure out a way to get them some.

Maybe ask if it’s because they’re struggling with money atm like many people are and offer to help if you can :face_with_peeking_eye:

Find them new ones. Depending on where you live there is state assistance that provide them. Maybe even hospitals or police station. Give them to them as a gift. I’m sure your niece knows they’re not safe but maybe all she can provide.

I’d TRULY hate for you to be my family member! Imagine with one phone call you alienate half of your family when you could just as easily go to a consignment shop and get a quality second hand ones for her.
This seems like either the kids needed their seats washed repeatedly and it destroyed the covers and she can’t afford new ones.
I’d be SO hurt, heartbroken and ANGRY over getting someone involved in my financial struggles :expressionless::expressionless:
