What can cause HPV?

Those saying have is an std can can only get it from sex are liars. I had it BEFORE I ever had sex, so explain that one. I guess you all have your Google dr degree

You get it from sex. Sometimes it doesn’t show up for years. I had it years ago. They had to go in and burn the abnormal cells.

It’s an std It could be dormant from years before.

it can be transferred female to female , male to female, male to male. Ask ur ob for more info and facts

Wtf is with all the cheating remarks??? I recently had an abnormal pap from early hpv.

Omg I feel sad that woman do not know how HPV works. He did NOT cheat. HPV can lay dormant in your body for years and it just takes something to set it off like and infection or illness. Really depends on your immune system and how good you are at clearing it yourself, when you can’t that is when you can test positive for HPV and have abnormal pap smears.

You can get it from just sitting on a toilet, or sharing food and a drink with someone that has it. It can also be dormant in the blood and body, till activated. I know most people with argue, but you can legit ask your Dr., Say you shaved and then went to sit on a. Toilet after someone that has it, you can get it that way, you’re pores are open and easy to contract bacteria and other forms of stuff even up to 48hrs after shaving. It’s not as common as getting it from sex,but it does happen and can happen to anyone.

My doctor flat out said every single person that has had more than 1 unprotected sexual partner has it. It’s undetectable until it gets worse enough to be picked up in a pap. there are tons of different variants (some worse then others) but is the main cause for cervical cancer.
It could have come from any of your previous partners but it can take a really long time for it to develop in to something worse and sometimes it won’t at all.

It is an std but it can lie dormant for a long time before making those cervical changes that make a pap irregular. So unless you and your husband were both virgins for each other then it could have been picked up from any partner either of you had

It can lie dormant for years also can be passed from mother to child during child birth.

Hpv is ridiculously common.

I tested positive once after I had my 5 year old. It can lay dormant for years, and a lot of people beat it within 2 years of it coming out of dormancy and never have a flare up again.

You came in contact with the virus somewhere. You need to be treated.

I was told by my gyno that it’s normal for women in child rearing age to have some form of hpv

The same thing recently happened to me. Apparently it is SOOOOOO common my doctor told me. Alot of the time it clears up on its own. Youll just have to have more paps until it does. (Every 6 months instead of every year).

Hpv sometimes takes years to show up …. A lot of people have it and have no clue

WHY tell the whole world about it???

Men are more likely to be carriers since birth . That’s why now teens and preteen males are required to have the HPV shots with their regular immunizations. It is very possible that it came from your husband. You also could’ve had it from birth and it was dormant til now.

I freaked also …called my dear friend come to find out she and her daughter also came back positive…
You cant trace it…you will never know…could even be you were born with it and there are so so many strains. There are strains that lay dormant for years. I was 57 when told…WTF i thought…very common

It’s highly common. About 80%+ of the world has it. It can lay dormant and pop up later. Take it one day at a time and don’t panic. You should clear out eventually.

My obgyn called me back in November of 2019 and said I had HPV!! Then I was told I needed a biopsy to rule out cancer and to see what type of HPV I had, my biopsy showed I didn’t have either!!! The biopsy caused a lot of bleeding and it took a total of 3 months to heal because I had my youngest daughter in September of 2019.

. Follow up, get paps. Just keep an eye out. What i do is I by boric acid tables and put it inside the vagina as far as you can put it in the boric acid helps clear it up within a night only put it before you go to bed xx has been a Life saver :kissing_heart::kissing_heart: my first time using the tables I cried because I was suffering for 2 years and after all that time I had found a solution that finally worked

It’s relatively common from my understanding.
What they will do next is likely figure out what kind of HPV and yes they can figure out from your original Pap smear. I know because it happened to me. Depending on the kind of HPV and whether your cells were normal they might consider doing a biopsy. My doctors informed me sometimes the HPV will clear up on its own. I was pregnant when mine happened. They decided I didn’t need any further treatment or biopsy and just have to have a pap to recheck it.

Well it’s and STD. So that’s the only way you can get it, from a partner. However it can lay dormant.

Also don’t freak out. Most adults contract HPV at some point (if they have had more than one partner and their partner has had more than one). It’s rare that it turns into anything serious.

Hey. Lab tech here. HPV is caused by having unprotected sex with a person infected with HPV or mother to baby during delivery. You get it from being in contact with their infected cells. Almost everyone has some strain of HPV and doesn’t even know it. Some strains don’t cause any effect. HPV can lay dormant in your body for years before having some form of outbreak. So it’s hard to tell when you got the virus. And usually the body clears the virus on its own over time.

It could have been from a previous partner for either of you. Please keep monitoring though. My friend was diagnosed last year with cervical cancer caused by undiagnosed hpv, she either contracted it from her ex partner that she broke up with almost 4 years ago or her ex husband that she spilt with 13 years ago.

There are only 13 high risk types- but many MANY strains. It is a viral infection. Doesnt even necessarily mean sexually transmitted, as per new research and guidelines. It can lay dormant for years, surface briefly and disappear again. Dont panic. Just keep your wits about you and take the advice of medical professionals only. It is most likely nothing to worry about!

Essentially every sexually active person has HPV and most peoples body rids itself of it, but some peoples don’t. You will likely have a biopsy to see if it’s low grade or high grade, if it’s high grade you will have a minor surgery to remove it. And then follow up paps more frequent. After a couple of years of normal, you will go back to routine paps. Just keep getting checked, it’s all you can do.

HPV is a sexually transmitted thing so one of you have had sex outside your marriage if neither of you have had it this entire time :woman_shrugging:t3::woman_shrugging:t3:

That’s just how that works ma’am…. So if you haven’t been cheating he has

U can’t catch it from a toilet! :joy: its a sexually transmitted disease!

My ex husband gave it to me.

Try not to stress hunni
Until you have further results
Then you will know what you are dealing with
And where to go from there in reguards to further testing

I have had 2 irregular paps come back and showed concern for having hpv. When I was sent to have a biopsy done both times the dr instead did another pap first which came back normal. Apparently it can go away on its own and pop back up buy I haven’t had an abnormal one again in years since. Depends on how severe it is it can be cancerous.

I wouldn’t worry to much it is quite common for irregular test results, the flu or infection can throw them out. Let the doctors sort out what is the cause and it can usually get sorted with antibiotics if needing.

It could be nothing I have had a biopsy done cause I had a irregular one too and the took 7 pieces of my cervix and it ended up being nothing. I didn’t have nothing but take some Tylenol or something before you go cause that crap hurts they don’t numb you

It’s common & an STD. I got it after my ex slept with his ex  after about 3 years of nonstop pap smears, biopsies, etc., I ended up getting a cryoscopy where they freeze the abnormal cells. I was told after constantly getting abnormal results, it was possibly precancerous. It was scary. But your ob/gyn will know what to do.

I’m pretty sure we are all carriers. But there are so many types including one that is a sign of cancer. But that’s why they do the follow up check and then you get graded off that… it may come back all clear or need a follow up with treatment. It’s not always worse case scenario. Hope I didn’t freak you out and helped a little lol

Don’t stress until results are final. You will drive yourself crazy with worry…

Its bad cells possibly cancerous it is not a STD if you have multiple they will do a biopsy.
Your doctor really should have explained it to you

Don’t worry. There is a safe & simple procedure ( if it’s like mine was) do NOT accuse your partner. Sometimes it’s dormant for many years. Talk to your doctor !!!

Whatever you do, follow up with the doctor and whatever treatment is used. I had patient once whose started as a couple small warts on the external genitalia towards the anus, she came in for her first treatment, didn’t come back, I called and called, finally she called back wanting in that day, right now. She’d let it go and now it had spread to her anus, inside and out. We couldn’t help her at that point, had to send her to a specialist.

I had HPV when I was 16 and it was a precancerous strain. Not all HPV is genital warts but once you have it, you have it for life. Since 1996, I had most paps come back irregular but most of the time it is nothing! Do not worry about it!

This happened to me when I was pregnant after doing another pap a few days later it came back normal. Another one was done 3 weeks later and was also normal. It’s been years now…all come back normal. It was never there. It happens alot. Don’t freak out. You will likely also not have it.

it’s sexually transmitted

Its something you can never get rid of

Omg… if you’re not a health care professional and work in this specific area, please don’t give this young lady advice… Specially “most of the time it’s nothing, don’t worry about it.”

Irregular pap-smear is not always HPV. And Yes, you need to follow up with your OBGYN… they need to do further testing… HPV could have been there since after your last pap… ? Before you got married? Anyway… there are many strains… there are a few that can cause cancer… you will find out soon…hope it’s all turns out ok… most of the time it will… :purple_heart:

Depending on the strain and the treatment- it can go away after being treated… please only
Listen to your doctor or nurse…

So it’s sexually transmitted. It can stay dormant for years. There’s also many different types. It’s extremely common! More than half the population. You can get it and never even know bc most people clear it out on their own with in 2 years. It can appear out of no where again later on though. It can stay dormant for years. Basically the only way to not come in contact with it is not have sex. Or both be virgins when y’all got together and never sleep with anyone else.

Some are undetectable on a normal screening. I popped up with 2 forms on a full panel screening. Both cancer risks. I wouldn’t have known except I got papped when I was bleeding uncontrollably while on depo. It doesn’t cause any issues itself as of now except being papped more often and watching closely for any changes. However since I am having bleeding issues since my son and birth control and meds aren’t helping and I’m a cervical cancer risk now I opted to go ahead with a hysterectomy and have it all removed since I am done having babies so I don’t have to stress anymore about it. Mines stayed persistent and active for almost 2 yrs now with other complications so I’d rather just remove it all and not have to have a dr up there all the time lol :joy:

It seems as all most all people have hpv kinda like herpes, but they only test for certain ones with paps, and often cervical trauma changes those cells and they activate and you all the sudden test positive. They usually don’t do anything if they’re the non-cancerous type, they do another pap in 6-12 months. If there is concern they will biopsy. This happened to me after my first baby, and happened so my family
Member after bladder sling. Despite what a lot of people say they was no cheating or anything, it was the cervical trauma that caused the positive.

Its very common. Your doctor may or may not order more tests . I had bad cells but was called in immediately for a cone biopsy as the amount was alarming . Hpv itself is not a major concern .

Hpv can lay dormant in your system for years before symptoms come. Sometimes no symptoms, other times warts from what I have read. Depends on the type you have. The doctor can also usually tell how long you have had it… Your hubby may not be as faithful as you think… Or you may have had it for years and NEVER known. Dont have sex with hubby till your know what type you have. The warts type?? You can give to him… The other type only affects you… Check for
Things like cervical cancer. You get HPV from sexual fluids. Dont even need to have sex…

Actually about 90% of women and 70% of men have HPV they just don’t get any warts or have any signs of it. And it can go away later.

I had an abnormal pap when I was 18. However my mom had cervical cancer, so I was already a carrier and high risk for it. I did not get it transmitted sexually. I’ve never been “positive” for it, just high risk. Every pap after was fine as well.

Hpv is one of the most common
Stds. It can lay dormant for years where the man doesn’t show any symptoms, but it can cause the man over time to develop prostate cancer. For women, it can cause cervical cancer, warts, ect depending on which type of hpv strain you have. One of you could have already had it when yall got together.

If you get normal/ routine pqp smears then more than likely it will be pre cancerous cells. They will do a procedure that cuts a chunk of your cervix off. It grows back. They will numb you for it, so you won’t feel anything until you’re home and the numbing stuff wears off. Then for about 24 hours you’re going to have horrible cramps, bleeding but then you’ll be fine.

I had an abnormal pap and it came back with a strain of HPV but not either of the two that cause cervical cancer. I had to have a colonoscopy done where they cut out the concerning cells and I have to go back to yearly paps until cells are no longer present. The doctor said it could be linked to the gardasail/HPV vaccine I received in school, but definitely not related to an STD. If left untreated the strains can turn cancerous, hence why they removed them and I need to have year paps until cleared.

HPV is not a sti, it can be sexually transmitted but you can also get it regardless of sex it is very common for women to be hpv positive!

I had hpv on my first ever smear at 25 went back this year and everything is fine and clear so it defo is weird as only been with same partner for 10 yrs, we had a 9 month break and I still didn’t do anything with anyone, its defo not from cheating I personally think it’s chdren that do it to ya as my friend 28 missed 2 smears went this year and hers is perfectly fine and she probably slept with a lot more blokes then me, dw it will go away nothing to worry about I had the biopsy too and u only worry if it grows or you get blood when having sex xx

It can lay dormant for decades. Could have been anyone from the past, babe.

my gyno said basically anyone that’s had sex has had hpv, just depends on what strain

Reading these comments have taught me something new…Ive had female health doctors state that there are only two types of HPV strain 1 or 2, & that it is usually always transmitted by unknowing males, laying dormint for years.
Wow, just how many are there? And when it comes to cancerous, how do you know/how can you find out, do you request multiple hpv tests or what? Like if there’s more than 2 types how do they go about determining what strain you have?

Literally everyone will have it at some point in their lives. It lays dormant. Men pass it to us. It’s not at all some std that means someone cheated. You might have had it for years and now it pops up as an abnormal pap. The concern is when you’re older and it’s active. They started checking for it during my annuals when I turned 35 I believe.

You can always have HPV and it not be detected. Sometimes the cells in your cervix will look different and that usually is what will cause an abnormal pap. I have had 2 leep procedures and 1 biopsy. Had HPV for 5 years then have tested negative for it the last 3 years but I would still be a carrier of HPV, it is very odd how it works but do some research and you can learn all about it and it’s different strains. Different strains cause cancer and other strains just come and go when screening for it.

It is sexually transmitted, but it can lay dormant for some time. It can also clear up on it’s own over time. I tested positive for a variety many years ago so I had to have more regularly checks at the gyn. It cleared within a few years and has not returned. I’m back to normally scheduled checkups now.

And that’s why I keep my pecker in my pants now

What is the main cause of HPV?
The virus that causes HPV infection is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. Most people get a genital HPV infection through direct sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Because HPV is a skin-to-skin infection, intercourse isn’t required for transmission to occur. Can HPV be caused Non sexually?
HPV infections can be sexually transmitted or non-sexually acquired; this review focuses on the latter. Transmission of non-sexually acquired HPV occurs when infected skin or skin squames are in direct contact with broken or macerated skin There is no cure for the virus (HPV) itself. There are treatments for the health problems that HPV can cause, such as genital warts, cervical changes, and cervical cancer…HPV is not transmitted through bodily fluids such as semen or saliva, but through skin-to-skin contact

Just means you have been exposed at some point. Men are carriers. Usually doesn’t even effect then. Do your research. It isn’t a one and bam you got bumps or it hurts thing like other stds

HPV is the most common ST virus out there. I think the statistic is every 1 in 6 women have had or will have it in their lifetime. In America, HPV strains 16 and 18 are the most carcinogenic. Most other strains go away on their own in a year or so. You just need to keep getting your yearly pap smears and you’ll be fine.

How u know he didn’t cheat you been with 24/7
