Hey mamas so my 2 1/2 year old had battled some skin problems. He does have Eczema but gas alway scratched since he was born. It’s a constant battle with him. I have tried cream etc. pediatrician sent us to an allergist and only test for cat and dogs which we found out he is allergic to. Any advice on helping him? I love my animals and I am a vet tech as well so the recommendation was to turn pets to outside pets. I am looking for suggestions they just recommend me keep him away and bath him daily and continue with cream.
Eczema starts in the gut. Eliminate dairy for starters. Creams and lotions just treat the skin surface. My son is also allergic to dog dander but only if a dog licks him. Maybe keep the animals in a separate room from your son or at least out of his face. I have had horrible eczema my whole life. This past January I eliminated dairy. I haven’t had a speck of a rash since.
Consider removing certain (inflammation) foods from his diet and observing. Would recommend doing certain categories individually (e.g. dairy, wheat etc.)
Ask about allergy shots. They really do help.
You don’t have to get rid of your animals.
Your child is suffering. Rehome your animals. Animals should not come before the health and well being of your child.
Start eliminating things that cause the problem your child is suffering.
Dont get rid of them. My friend is highly allergic and she and her son both take a benydryl and and i think its a shot once a motnth or something like that.
My son had this problem and I had an elderly lady tell me to some olive oil and rub him down in it and it work really it did and I used any kind I was in the 99 cent store when I bought it
I give my 2 1/2 year old children’s Zyrtec every morning for allergies he hasn’t got tested yet but he was getting red swollen eyes and hives with spring weather and around dogs sometimes. Since I been giving it to him i notice when he’s around dogs now he don’t break out and I use fig goat milk soap and then cover him in aquafor after bath and it’s been keeping his eczema in control
My little girl has eczema and very sensitive skin too. I use only certain body washes for sensitive skin, always use eczema lotion so she isn’t dry , and don’t allow her to use perfumes or sprays or play in play doh or slime. Animals don’t bother her but if they did , I’d find them a different home. Skin issues can be very painful and the itching can be awful. Change everything to include detergents
I am sorry your son has eczema. But I am really surprised that he could scratch himself since he was born. That’s amazing !! Talk to his pediatrician
My 3 yo had eczema pretty bad for almost 2 years:frowning: I tried lotions and all the prescription creams but they didn’t really do too much and if they did it was only for a short time and then it would come back. We have been using the aquaphor for almost 2 years now and it cleared up within the 1st few weeks and I haven’t seen a spot on her in that time:heart_eyes: I honestly see A WHOLE LOT of posts about eczema though and I always do recommend the aquaphor because it worked wonders for us… but it really seems like this is a pretty common issue and everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the “miracle cure” for it is:thinking: My advice is just keep testing things until you do find something that works well for him. But I sure af wouldn’t jump to getting rid of my oldest son because of something that may be as simple as a different lotion:woman_facepalming: It makes me completely sick to see just how many ppl are trying to mom shame you for "putting your animals over your kid"
Those are exactly the type of ppl who shouldn’t get pets and they are the reason so many poor animals go through hell or flat out die! Trust YOUR instincts… not everyone else’s:100: If you really can’t fix this problem then reevaluate what to do with your pets but until you’ve tried EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER… you’re not there yet! Good luck mama:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I would avoid dairy I know that made a difference for both my kids and they thought it was our pets
Shea Moisture African Black Soap Eczema & psoriasis therapy body wash. Shea also has creams and wipes in this too. I use it on my son everyday and it works like a charm. Plus its all natural ingredients!
Allergy meds and keeping him clean. If you havent already, go to a dermatologist n not just a pediatrician. My son has had this problem almost his whole life (he’ll be 10 in dec). Also gotta do a good allergy test. My son has a wheat allergy
My youngest has eczema and his doctor recommended palmers cocoa butter formula and it works for him. Also dreft baby laundry soap or any laundry soap that is free and clear. And the dark blue dove soap. It works wonders. He no longer has break outs.
My little is almost two and she has eczema and they sent me to a dermatologist and they tested it and makes sure it had no bacteria on her and has used the eucrisa and it has helped so much! They sent it to a special place and i only paid $10. Ask you dr for samples
Also stay away from dyes and perfumes it reacts to it
My daughters dr warned me that johnson’s lotion/bath dries out thier skin and I could see ecxema, especially because I have it. The only thing that works for me is oatmel body wash. You can also try adding a little olive oil or baby oil to baths.
I get small patches of psoriasis occasionally and when I was pregnant, I couldn’t use the steroids cream my doctor had me using. It was recommended to use Aveeno eczema and it works. I still use it if I have a flare up and it helps. Live clean also has a baby one eczema cream.
I would also make sure to change and shower myself after work before touching hom if possible
I see a lot of people here recommending bathing often. I raised two boys with extreme eczema and one of the first things I learned was to stretch their baths out as far as possible. Bathing too often exasperates the problem. Moisturizing with the correct cream for that child is important as well. Good luck I hope you find a solution for your little one.
