What can I take for a cough while pregnant?

Hi, momma’s 21 weeks pregnant here, and I need some suggestions. I’ve had a really bad cough for about 4/5 Days now. I’ve tried Robitussin, cough drops, Mucinex, gargled some salt water, and even went to the doctor and was given amoxicillin, but nothing seems to be helping. I’ve already been tested for covid, and I do not have it. I’m at a loss on what to do. It mainly bothers me most at night time. Any suggestions are appreciated

I’ve been this way since I had pneumonia… tested me for covid 3 times… still coughing still have congestion… Hope you feel better!

My doctors gave me this

I know it sounds stupid but get checked for acid reflux. I didn’t know what to do either and saw an ear nose and throat Dr. He gave me meds for reflux and solved the problem. Prior to that I had that cough and phlegm in my throat mostly at night.

Smelling Eucalyptus I put it in a warmer or the humidifier. Also Vicks works wonders

Your Doctor should of given you a list of meds that you can and cannot take while pregnant.

Chamomile tea with anise helps soothe the airways.

Could be post nasal drip, and Flonase may help.

Put vicks on the soles of your feet with socks on it really works

I would Go to a different doctor. Get them to listen to ur chest.

U could be getting bronchitis which can turn into pneumonia.

Few years back I had a cough barely could breathe especially laying down my dr told me basically to go home an rest.
I couldn’t handle it no more so made a dr appointment with another dr, as soon as he listened he admitted me to hospital saying I should of been put in ages ago.

Slice an onion up, put on a plate, sprinkle sugar, brown sugar if yrv got it. Cover with glad wrap and let it sit for couple hrs, drink the juice.

Make sure you’re sleeping elevated and get a cool mist humidifier to sleep with if you don’t already have one (it’ll be worth buying you’ll use it a lot with your baby) just make sure it’s COOL mist. Also get a second opinion from another doctor. Are you having any reflux symptoms? Reflux can make you cough too and we often blow it off in pregnancy but that could be why you’re coughing especially since it’s worse at night

Couple drops of peppermint oil in boiled water and breath in carefully lol worked like a charm for me, also used 1 tbsp of local buckwheat honey. I had pneumonia and did those 2 things and was better in 3 days. In the past when I’ve had pneumonia it has lasted for months. It’s all I use now

Coughing mainly at night is a symptom of bronchitis. Or allergies. I suggest talking to a doctor soon.

So this is pretty gross but I swear it worked. I once drank the water I boiled my veg in. (Once it cooled) i Was 100% better the next day. Desperate times call for desperate measures…

Boiled water with both garlic & ginger in a coffee mug, then add 2 tblspns honey. And spit out all the phlem you cough up, it helps a lot. I’m 25wks, I didn’t go to any doctor or hospital for meds.

Keep your doctor informed. I had a respiratory infection or virus when I was pregnant (they couldn’t do xrays so they don’t really know). I could barely breathe. I was given antibiotics, steroids & Albuterol. It got a little better but didn’t end until she was born.

I was pregnant and had to take mucinex, tylenol, and cough drops. Mucinex is safe to take. That’s most likely what the doctor will tell you to take

Warm water with honey and lemon is as effective as any otc cough medicines.

Put Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet and put socks on. That will help you stop coughing. Have done this many times when my kids were sick. It works.

Run a humidifier at night to help. Pineapple can help but it’s loaded with Vit A so should be eaten or used in moderation while pregnant. I had a ‘post-viral’ cough for months while pregnant and I was actually sick for like 2 weeks, was not fun dealing with the lingering cough so I feel for you.

I am 31 weeks along with twins an my cough that i recently had was due to bronchitis was given an albuteral inhaler … :flushed:

Change your hvac filters and potentially hire a company to clean the duct work. I cough when dust and pollen starts building up in my vents

Mucinex severe for cold and flu

Pineapple juice; honey tea; and try Vicks on the soles of your feet and put socks on. DoTerra Breathe essential oil

Can you breathe ok? If not maybe talk to your doctor about an inhaler. Also Nasonex nasal spray can help to especially if you have a drainage.

Old remedy but often works: rub Vicks on the bottom of your feet, put on thick socks over it. Use this especially at night.

Air purifier and humidifier . Nose sprays cough spray for throat . Lemon water . Sleep sitting up .

U may have covid? My friend had same thing it was covid. Try elderberry tea with raw honey

Shower before bed and change pillowcases regularly. Maybe it’s from allergies and if so they get on your pillow (if you don’t shower) and you sleep in whatever allergen has clung to your face/ hair all day.

Try a humidifier and prop yourself up. A spoonful of honey mixed with cinnamon has helped me tremendously in the past.
My son has developed a cough over the past couple of weeks. No sore throat, just an annoying little cough. It ended up being allergies. Quite a few people I know have developed similar symptoms and they’ve almost all turned out to be allergies.

I had a terrible cough for like a month while I was pregnant. I used spearmint mints the green ones. Helped immensely

Honey with a smidge of ceyanne pepper (for real - grandma did it for us all the time)

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! To answer some questions: No I do not smoke that’s disgusting and I’m pregnant, no I do not have covid I’ve been tested thanks for the concern, yes I’ve been given the list of medication from my own doctor and have tried it all as stated in my post, I’ve been to and talked to my doctor already multiple times, again thanks for the concern, no I am not on any medications other than prenatal vitamins, I have an inhaler for when I struggle breathing, I’m currently dealing with tonsil stones that’s why I was given amoxicillin, I sleep elevated already because it’s the only thing comfortable for me, I use my humidifier every night since my coughing started. Hopefully that answers everyone. Also I know Facebook isn’t a doctor… It’s not a crime to turn to somewhere else for suggestions… So thank you to those who have given some of their personal home remedies that have worked for y’all! I’ll definitely be trying them!!:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Any ideas for a 3 year old with a really bad cough that won’t go away? He’s on amoxacillin for 4 days, humidifier with vapo steam at night, vapo rub with lavender on the chest, lots of Popsicles. Cough doesn’t seem to be getting any better
