What causes negative tests but missed periods?

So my period is 12 days late… I’m having a few pregnancy symptoms like nausea, fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes, feeling super off, and I noticed my breasts are more full and even have milk in them. I have not breastfed for almost 2years, and when I did, it was for about two months. But I’ve gotten two negative tests. I also had a false negative with my first pregnancy. My dr. They told me to wait a week to retest or see if my period comes or that I can go in to do a blood test. It’s been a week, no period, same symptoms, but I still got a negative test. I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it or if it’s too early still, so I’m just looking for thoughts/opinions, especially if someone’s had a similar experience! Thank you all in advance!

Sounds like your hormones are outta wack.

False negatives are more common than false positives… waiting a bit and retesting seems like a good idea.

I was 72 days late… Thought for sure I was pregnant. Tests were all negative. I went to the gynecologist because I thought for sure there was an issue. She said this can happen and sometimes periods just fall off the grid for a while but catch back up. She said this happens typically twice a year, sometimes noticable sometimes not.

Now, she also told me that I would have a hard time getting pregnant again if I ever would with such irregularity. I ended up pregnant the month after that.

go by what the doctor tells you to do?

I would talk to your doctor about PCOS.

You can still be pregnant, it takes up to 3 months for the estrogen to build up to be detected

Stress can be a huge factor.

Also take another test in a week. But, do it first thing in the morning

It shouldn’t be too early. I test positive the day after my period. I’d get bloodwork done :woman_shrugging:t3:

Are you on the pill?

Sounds like u need a blood test done

Yeah I’m going through the same thing I’m 6 days late took 2 tests both negative… This has never happened to me… period is always on time

I’d definitely go in and get some blood work done to see what’s going on. Those symptoms can be pregnancy symptoms, period symptoms, a hormone imbalance, or many other things. There’s really no way to tell for sure what’s going on without getting checked out by your doctor. The lactation is a big concern also, because colostrum production in pregnancy usually starts around week 16 at the earliest. It could be a sign of a serious imbalance.

I was six months pregnant before I got a positive test (urine). See your doctor and get a blood test.

Hormones are probably unbalanced.

Are you stressed? Have you changed your diet? Are you on new medication? Have you started or stopped birth control? Taken the morning after pill? Been exercising more?
Lots of things can cause late periods. Could even just be your body being weird for no reason.

i was 4 and half month pregnant and test was still coming back Negative i had to have a scan x

Have you had a Covid vaccine, I have heard many women are having issues/delays with their period following the vaccine. GP’s have advised they are aware of the problem and it should resolve within a few months.

Stress. Weight gain. Thyroid issues. Lots of stuff. I missed my period from January to March. Got it back in April and this month and they lasted 10-14 days. Id go see your doctor and rule everything out before you worry. Our bodies are weird but they tell us what they need by doing things like this

I always had to do blood test to know of I was pregnant. You could have an ectopic pregnancy or hormone imbalance?Maybe early menopause? Constipation can make you feel pregnant also. Stress can make you skip or be late.

Pituitary adenoma was the cause of mine, kinda put me into a premenopausal state then about a year or more after I got pregnant.

I was getting negative pee tests and 1 x round negative bloods (I would have been 6 weeks when bloods was done) till finally a positive pee, followed up with positive bloods, went for the dating ultrasound the next day and I was already 10 weeks. :woman_shrugging:

Not taking the test right lol.

Get a pregnancy blood test. Much more reliable.
