What could be causing my toddler to throw up?

She may need to see a gastro dr…could it be her gallbladder?

My daughter has a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis. Started with vomiting as a baby/toddler. Read about it and see if symptoms mimic what you are going through and consult a childrens GI doc

My daughter was like this since birth and the Dr kept saying it was reflux and she’d grow out of it. Took until the age of 4 and our 3rd pediatrician before I got to one to take my concerns seriously and refer me to a specialist. She was tested and found to have a slower than normal digestive system. She takes three times as long to digest food, can’t digest certain types of food, and the result was her vomiting the food if she ate a new meal while a prior was still in there or her stomach gave up trying to break down something it couldn’t. They put her on an antibiotic regimen to help her digest and we had to journal what she ate to figure out what foods she rejected and how to better space out her meals while finding the right portion sizes to avoid her vomiting.

Cyclic vomiting syndrome…
Allergies
Intolerances
Mucus from post nasal drip
Ear infection
Anxiety
Stomach bug (yes they can linger)
There are many many reasons and if the doctor isn’t giving you answers or listening push harder.

D9 you have a children’s specialized hospital in your state? If so …take her there .they have specialists for everything.

Perhaps a 2nd opinion…not sure but maybe an allergist or pediatric gastroenterologist just some thoughts if it continues

Milk allergies maybe, could try almond milk and see if it changes.

See a gastroenterologist.

Get a second third or even a fourth opinion n get a referral to a peds gi dr she may need to be scoped

l get paid over $165 per hour working from home. l never thought I’d be able to do it but my buddy makes over $18517 a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The possibility with this is endless.

Food allergy. Probably milk.

It is not normal for kids to throw up daily, especially if they are showing no other signs if illness or discomfort. Start logging her day. Note the time she wakes up, what she eats, and when she throws up. Look for consistent patterns. When you say that you feel like the doctors aren’t listening to you, what do you mean by not listening? Have they made any suggestions?

Have you added anything to her diet recently that she hasn’t had before? I was thinking maybe an intolerance or allergy. When my son was little he had to have soy milk, because he would spit up entire bottles. I know you said she is a toddler but that’s what my experience with something like that is. I would take her to another dr for a second opinion. ALWAYS get a second opinion if you don’t think the my are listening to you.

I did this as a child because I was allergic to artificial colorings and flavorings. I was born in 1977, the years of Mac & Cheese, Tabg, Kool-aid, everything had coloring or flavorings in it (still does). Dr’s. Told my parents that I was just dramatic (at 2…) as a 45 yr old I have developed a tolerance to many colorings, but flavorings Stull get me. Maybe try a raw (no additive/elimination diet) for a little while. It nay help.

This happened to my daughter when she was little and it was strep throat. The throwing up in the morning was her only symptom.

My son did that once when he had a ear infection

That happened to my son and he had leukemia, it was so early. The blood test showed dangerously elevated calcium levels. A couple days and a lot of test later they did a bone marrow biopsy and found it was the leukemia

This happened to me when I was very young, as it turned out I was allergic to several foods my mother made. It could be a simple or a more complex situation. Definitely take her to the pediatrician to find out more! I hope everything is okay. :blue_heart:

She may have an allergy to something she eating. She needs to be referred to a gi doctor.

My daughter was doing this, took her to the Dr they sent us to a gi Dr and they diagnosed her with something that is a aide effect to the stomach bug. She is on some medicine daily and we haven’t puked since we’ve been on this medicine. I don’t remember what they diagnosed her with but see a gi Dr and they will help!

Could be the onset symptoms of something! When my daughter was three she was doing the same thing ! She would stop and puke and seem fine after! It was an outbreak of hepatitis back in the 80’s the whole town of Phoenix,Az! Kids can show onset symptoms a few weeks before when coming down with something’s!

Watch what you are feeding her. When I was small I threw up every time My mother fed me eggs. I still,to this day can’t eat eggs. Throwing up is your body’s way of telling you that it doesn’t want what’s in your stomach.

Reflux, food allergies

Take her to a gastroenterologist and asked to her checked for gastroparesis. The symptoms you describe sound a lot like what goes on with GP.

Is she losing weight? Yes, GI referral in order. May be more than reflux. After several months on GI meds, I insisted on 2nd opinion with Childrens Hospital. CT scan found a greater life-threatening cause involving an artery wrapped around the esophagus & trachea that was causing the reflux.

Find a new dr. Could be an allergy, could be reflux, diabetes a whole number of things really.

Reflux , milk or gluten allergy . What has she been eating

Does it happen after getting wound up/really excited and jumping, running, being bounced, etc? Or is it when she first wakes up? What part of her daily routine does it happen in? Is it the same time everyday?

my 4 yr old is doing this plus with headaches, got mri an he has penial cyst…her her checked for everything. pressure in head can cause vomiting. i yhought it was reflux

tell you doctor to start listening to you ’ you pay the bill You think!

Definitely get a second doctor opinion. If it keeps up Definitely see a GI doctor.

The first thing that comes to mind is milk, gluten and/or eating too fast and second is a pediatric gastroenterologist.

Is it possible she is having silent seizures? I once knew someone who had this issue with a child and the underlying issue was seizures. Happy, healthy adult now

Find another doctor… In the meantime take her to hospital. Tell them you are not leaving until they can tell you what’s wrong. When had to do this. They were upset with us. But we found the reason.

Does she vomit after eating the same thing? My daughter has an intolerance to some different fruits and feels terrible/barfs after eating those things. Obviously she isn’t allowed to eat those things anymore.

My daughter had this problem as well. She would be fine all day and then as soon as bedtime came she would puke. This went on for about a month or 2. I went to the doctor so many times and the puking would stop after the visits then come back. Eventually I told her doctor I thought it was acid reflux, he prescribed her medication and within a week it helped. She takes it every night and hasn’t had any puking episodes since unless she misses a night. I would tell her doctor you think it’s acid reflux and see if the medicine they prescribe helps her. My daughter is on famotadine you could probably ask to try that. Don’t take no for an answer. You got this!

When is she getting sick? It could be so many reasons. You need to share a little more

Prob something in her diet? I would get checked by gastro dr and start writing down what she eats daily if she has to see a dr for allergies. But for him to dismiss it like that it’s clearly not a stomach bug.

Ear infection? My daughter constantly threw up she had major ear infections the dr said so she ended up getting tubes in her ears after that she never ever threw up again:grin::grin:

This happened with my son when he was that age. He was sick for 5 weeks. Nearly hospitalized twice with dehydration. They kept saying it was a stomach virus at the ER. I finally took him to his doctor again and demanded answers. She said that it probably was a stomach virus at first but it messed with the good bacteria in his gut and put everything out of whack. We put him on a BRAT diet(bland foods) and pushed fluids as much as possible. She suggested probiotic yogurt too.

He finally seemed better after 5 weeks so to celebrate we went out to eat as a family. Oh boy… bad idea. He had one more round of throwing up in him and it went all over the booth. We gave that poor waitress a huge tip.

He just turned 9 and is completely fine now.

Mild Asthma can cause this as well if she is running around playing shortly before it happens. I would get a second opinion if your ped isn’t interested in investigating further.

Ask for a food allergy panel to be done to knock out allergies
