What happens if you take birth control while pregnant?

I recently found out I was 4 months pregnant and had no idea. I have been on the pill for the past 7 months and have had a “period” each month, on time. So the past 4 months of my pregnancy I have religiously taken the pill. Has this happened to anyone else? Will it hurt the baby?

IV heard this has happened quit often and baby is fine. Just bring it up to your doctor and in the mean time try not stressing about it.

Tell your doctor but plan b will not effect a pregnancy and plan b is like birth control on steroids so I’d assume you’re fine. I did the same thing. I’m pretty certain I started my prescription when I concieved my baby. Healthy as ever now at 33weeks

Yall, she probably is waiting for an appointment but her nerves are probably getting the best of her. Shes asking to see if anyone else has experienced this and what to expect until she can get to her doctor.

I could be knocked up right now for as long as she has been and call to schedule and appointment and my doctor is still 2 months out. Shes just trying to keep herself from worrying.

I can only speak from experience and in no way am I a doctor but I’m currently pregnant with my surprise baby. Found out at about 4 months as well. I have no idea I was pregnant and was on the depo shot. I also received the shot again during that time of not knowing. I have had no issues and was told by my doctor that it was okay. I am now 37 weeks and still have no issues. I’ve also had more appointments than normal just to calm my nerves and ensure that she was okay.

She knows she’s 4 months pregnant. She has obviously seen a doctor.

I did the same with my youngest and she’s fine. I didn’t know for like 3 months that I was pregnant and was still taking my birth control.

I know someone had to take Birth control pills when she was pregnant she has a health issue and the pills helped her. I don’t exactly know all the details if there was a certain dosage or not but she was on them I think her whole pregnancy and she’s got a beautiful healthy baby girl.

All 3 of mine are birth control babies, they said was the hormones in the birth control brougbt me to a normal level and thats why it failed and all 3 my babies were healthy

I was also worried, Dr said it was fine and quite common in women not to know and still be taking it and it’s never presented a problem , don’t worry, it’s just the start of mum guilt  , relax and look after yourself

You need to talk to your doctor about this.

Yall. Please learn the difference between AFFECT and EFFECT. They are not the same!!!

I haven’t but that’s scary. Im sure it’s common.

Same here 54 years ago!healthy as a horse.

Im sure the baby is fine but i agree with everyone else to check with a doctor… congratulations :heartbeat::heartbeat::heartbeat:

I take a pregnancy test each month before the start of my placebo pills to be sure. As even bc isn’t 100% effective :heartpulse:

Definitely a question you should ask your doctor

Happened to my mom, and I’m fine

My mom didn’t know she was pregnant with me. She still took the pill everyday for months. That was 40 years ago. I know the pill is different now. I guess I’m pretty much ok.

I was on the mini pill when we conceived our 3rd. I stopped when I found out around 5 or 6 weeks. Baby was small at birth and still is at 2yo but healthy and thriving.

I took it 6 months with my son before I realized he was in there. He’s now 15 and fine.

I don’t think the pill is a high enough concentration in single doses to affect the baby.

All my babies were unknowingly conceived on one form of birth control or another. What my doctors did was every 2wk ultrasounds to make sure each peanut was growing the way they were supposed to until the 20wk anatomy scan. None of my babes have any health issues or side effects. Hope that helps!

Everyone I know who’s had this happen has given birth to a healthy baby x

Stop taking it immediately and go to the doctor. If your baby seems to be ok, then I’m sure your baby will be ok. Hoping things go well momma

I got pregnant on the pill the first time, month 2 of depo shot the 3rd time. I took my bc for 5m with my first, I had the gender scan (supposed to be a dating scan) the day I found out I was pregnant. My dude was perfectly healthy! Both kids were! My Dr told me not to be concerned, it’s possible to have issues from it, but they can usually tell pretty early.

Happened to me. Didn’t have any issues. Perfectly normal pregnancy and she was and still is perfectly healthy

I took the pill and had a miscarriage becuz of the pill
But it was the only pill that could cause miscarriage Lovora.
Many other pills do not have the same affect
Odd u still had a period…I had a period that lasted 2 weeks…it was actually the miscarriage tho
If dr saying ur fine baby fine then ok… u should begin feeling lil butterflies…kicking

Congratulations

I did with my son, and he is totally fine and healthy

Not to be rude or anything…but this a question for the experts? Definitely schedule an appointment with an obgyn.
Best of luck!

Not an expert, but I was also in the same shoes…but I didn’t get ‘period’ I just noticed a baby bump… That time I was 7months…stopped the pills went for scan…now he’s 7months and healthy.

Check with your midwife for sure! But…I was on the pill with my first and didn’t find out till around 19 weeks - I had a normal pregnancy& delivery and he’s a happy healthy 8 year old now :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Congratulations! xx

Girls calm down, to all of you saying that it’s a question for her ob/gyn.
Maybe she already made an appointment but in the meantime she wants to know if any of you went through the same as her.
I know that when I was waiting for a blood test to come back I was asking other mommies if they had any idea.

I found out about my first when I was 23weeks and 5 days I was in the pill and still took it she came out fine a bit bonkers though lol :joy:

Congratulations Haven’t experienced this but ave being put on medication for my 3rd pregnancy a questioned it with it being codeine and antisickness and antihistamines (was not allowed the antihistamines with my first 2 but had a bad nut reaction) and ave being told of my midwife and gp (doctor) that’ the reason should avoid or dont take is usually because there isnt enough research in these areas hope this helps put your mind at ease till have your appointment lil tip write a list of this and any other worries or concerns questions u might have try not to stress or worry xxx

Congratulations! Wishing you the best!

No idea but best of luck congrats mommy. I just know birth control regulates estrogen levels and lowers the levels of hcg 2 try 2 stop pregnancy. Obviously it fails sometimes. Pregnancy heightens ur estrogen levels and hcg so …yea no idea I should be find though

Same thing happened to me I took a few tests before starting the pill and they said negative so I was taking it for about 3 months before finding out I was pregnant the entire time and now I have a happy smart healthy 3 yr old little boy

My doctor told me that all the studies have shown that there aren’t really any side effects to the baby, and that it’s not an issue if you’ve taken the pill while pregnant. She said in her experience, women who continued taking it through the first half of the pregnancy have a higher rate of smaller babies, but she believes that’s just because they didn’t know they were pregnant and weren’t getting the right nutrients to the baby, not because of anything to do with the pill. You should be fine, but if you’re worried, make sure you consult your dr.

Depends on the type and dosage. This is something you should be discussing with your Midwife or OB.

Maybe she’s just scared. She’s obviously going to talk to her doctor. It seems she just wants some reassurance. I personally took birth control my first two months as I didn’t know I was pregnant. I now have a healthy 3.5 month old baby❤️

I found out I was pregnant with my son at 5 months, was taking Alesse and getting my regular period on time. I didn’t gain any weight, no morning sickness, nothing. I was laying in bed when he moved, I went to the doctor that day and we were expecting a baby in the spring. He weighed in at 8lbs 11oz and super healthy, he’s now 6’2, 285lbs football player built…so I honestly don’t think it’ll affect baby but always best to talk to doctors about it.

Happened a million times before with lots of women, most of the time birth control doesn’t harm a fetus. Of course now that you know, eat healthy, take your vitamins, drink lots of water, and attend all your doctor’s appts and don’t be afraid to ask questions! The baby will be fine and so will you! Prayers going up for your family!

:raising_hand_woman:t2:Mom here who has a healthy 6 yr. old! I was taking my birth control pill religiously & got pregnant while on it. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. I was worried as well but I stopped taking the pill immediately and began taking prenatal vitamins. It’s more common then you think. Best of luck  & congratulations on your pregnancy

I was on the pill with my oldest and the one I am pregnant with now. My oldest was for almost 3 months and this one was 2 months. (This is baby number 4) My oldest just turned 11 and has no health issues, is very bright and had no birth defects. She was born a very healthy baby girl at 7lbs. 3/4oz and 19.5 inches long. I wouldn’t worry too much. My OB explained it to me like this - the pill is meant to prevent pregnancy, but doesn’t effect a living fetus if there is one present. Worst case scenario the babies hormones will be a little different until you cease the pill, but it won’t cause any harm to the baby. Everything will be alright

I was on birth control with my first born didn’t know I was pregnant and had periods and found out at 5 months. He was a chunky perfect healthy baby

I don’t think you should have any issues, of course if you’re concerned have your OB do an ultrasound and im sure they can provide some tips or ideas.
I found out I was 27 weeks pregnant, I had absolutely no symptoms or signs… only found out bc I went to the ER for something totally unrelated… and I was also taking Birth control. My son, who is 6yo now is fine! He was a whole 8lbs at birth!

I was on the mini pill and found out i was 4 months pregnant she was born perfectly healthy and huge 8lb 13 xx

Well you’re already pregnant so I’d stop taking it now. But the last few months of taking it shouldn’t effect the baby

So the most harmful things are an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy, you have an increased risk of miscarriage in early pregnancy which you’ve passed both those. As for they other risks its usually pre term labor or low birth weight but those things are manageable. The pill is a low dose so it doesn’t carry a heavy risk like shots or implants

I’m curious if your period has been on time how do you know you’re 4mos? Have you had an ultrasound?
