I just had a c section like a week ago and the doctor gave me like 12 pain pills and I’m already out! I’m still in pain and have been taking ibuprofen and Tylenol would it seem drug seeking to ask for more? How much did the doctors give you after a cesarean?
I didn’t get any pain meds after my sections. I had four. Make sure you’re walking to prevent blood clots. Don’t lift anything heavier than your baby. Drink lots of water. Don’t get the incision overly wet ( let the water run down your belly and that’s it ) pat dry and then air dry. Keep it dry during the day.
Go to a walk in if the pain is bad. Might have an infection starting.
I have never had a c-section, just 3 vaginal births… But this comment section has my mind blown They really cut your gut open, through all that skin tissue and muscle… Cut into your uterus, pull out a whole human being… Staple you shut… And send you on your way with Tylenol to care for said human!!! I got better pain meds then that when I needed a root canal
I’ve had 2 c-sections, just getting up & walking around worked wonders for me. I was out going to rummage sales 1 week after having my twins lol.
I had a c sec with our twins almost 3 years ago… the recovery was so brutal, I’ve never been in so much pain. Don’t be ashamed to ask for drugs and help. A c sec takes a major toll on your body.
OP it will be pointless for you to even read through these comments because half act like you shouldn’t need pain meds at all because they either didn’t need them or weren’t given any.
The only thing you need to worry about is YES CALL if you’re still hurting!
I totally get the pain of bc section, however many will not prescribe another set of narcotics. They will give you ibuprofen 800 as this is what probably is best to help with the swelling and lessen the pain a little.
I had 3 c sections and needed 1 refill everytime. Do not hesitate to ask. Remember they just cut so many layers of your stomach.
Nothing takes away that pain not even pain pills. They limit them because addiction is strong and real. They will give you bare minimum because they dont want you dependent on pain meds. After a certain point you have to just self manage using OTC meds, ice/heat packs. If you are in that much pain go back to the doctor. I had to see a wound clinic after my c section and got a wound vac. They did not give me any pain meds. I went months like that.
Also, try your hardest to walk walk walk. It’s strength the muscles in your stomach
I was off the meds quite quickly after mine. I think you need to see a Dr if you’re still in pain. The only pain I had after a week was due to constipation from the meds.
Call and ask for more. That’s less than 2 a day if it’s been a week. Everyone is different. I honestly opted not to take them so I didn’t have GI issues on top of the c-section pain (learned my lesson after my first was born) however everyone’s thresholds are different.
Walk, walk, walk helps a lot as well. I know it’s crazy, but it’s true. Also if you can sit up more than lie down it helps.
I had 3 of them - it’s no joke. Give yourself some time and patience to heal.
Congratulations!
Walk walk walk. I didn’t take the pain medication. Walk it hurts at first then helps
By now Ibuprofen should be all you need. You may need to be seen. In my experience, of course yours may be different, I had some discomfort but not pain.
I wasn’t prescribed anything after all of my 4 C-sections. I would take over the counter Advil. If you’re having a lot of pain just get checked out.
Girl, CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! It sucks that people with real pain don’t want to ask for pain meds because of the stigma that drug abusers have put on them. Idgaf…I ask for pain meds with my cs and for my endometriosis pain. They’re not in my body…only I know what this feels like.
I asked my Dr for more and they had no problem refilling my pain meds. I wouldn’t think they would consider it drug seeking if you don’t have a history of pain killer abuse. Never hurts to talk to your Dr
If you are still in that much pain, call your doctor. The doctor may want to see you to make sure something else isn’t going on that could be causing the pain-Like an infection starting.
No, it is not drug seeking you just had major abdominal surgery call your Dr and ask them to send a refill they usually will do it right away.
Took Excedrine Migraine after surgery which really took the edge off of the pain. I was not able to take any pain meds that had opioids. Am allergic so I recommend Excedrine. If it persists I would call my doctor.
I only took Tylenol the whole time which absolutely sucked. People can say to walk all they want but to me it made it worse. Just being a potato and letting my body rest was really good.
I took just plain Tylenol all 3 csections, I hated the way the pain killers felt and it was all I needed. If your in too much pain still I would recommend getting an ob appointment because something could be wrong or infection could be causing pain. But by this point you should be fine off of Tylenol
I had a refill… I’m surprised you don’t!!! It’s a MAJOR surgery so don’t feel bad for asking for more!!! If you need more after this then I would go get checked out because something else may need your attention
I only ever took ibuprofen when I got out of the hospital. It hurt yes but not unbearable. Unless I laughed coughed or sneezed lol. But if it’s hurting that bad you need to see your dr
I’m in Canada, I’ve had 4 csections. We do not get any pain meds when released from the hospital, we just manage with Tylenol and advil.
I used ibuprofen only. Gotta move through the pain or you aren’t doing yourself any favors.
Just call. They know you had major surgery
I was on a morphine drip in the hospital, but got nothing when I discharged home.
Shit they didn’t even give me 12 when I had one, they gave me 3 but I live in WV and we have the biggest drug problem.
Try walking as much as you can
I didn’t like how the pain meds made me feel, so I took 4 Ibuprofens every 4 hrs
Yes… just call your dr. You will heal faster if you can control the pain. Prayers mama
I had mine 20 years ago the first time. I was sent home with pain med refills.
My last one was 9 years ago and I was sent home with pain meds enough for two weeks. Then I didn’t really need them anymore. If it hurts ask for more.
You need to be up and moving. I’ve had 3 C-sections and the pain meds can only do so much. Once I was out I didn’t get anymore because I’d be up moving and stuff and that helps heal you twice as fast. Ibuprofen is the best thing after that.
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. Cal the dr and ask for help.
All they gave me was ibuprofen 600. Walking definitely helped but don’t overdue it
i was on oxycodone, heavy tylenol and heavy advil. i would take all three at once and use tylenol and advil until i could use my oxycodone again. i didn’t really need too much of the heavy pain med after the first about 10 days. call your doctor and let them know you’re still in bad pain, something COULD be wrong. it wouldn’t hurt to call and check in. it’s not drug seeking, they just cut 13 layers of you and moved all your organs! best of luck
Heating pad sweetie! I just had critical stomach surgery with an incision from my breast bone to below my naval. In between pain meds I LIVE with my heating pad on it. Maybe your PCP can help with a little more pain meds?
Just ask for more, you don’t need to suffer in pain. Tell the Dr your explanation. I’m sure he’ll be understanding
Honestly just call and tell them how much pain you are in. Also mention that you are taking over the counter meds but they are not putting a dent in it. My first c section I asked after I was out and my doc refused. But times are a bit different now. There is no reason to suffer because it might seem drug seeking. Doctors need to do better.
They gave me Percocet, but I never took it because it made me feel groggy. I alternated extra strength Tylenol and advil.
I have had 3 even with pain meds you will be uncomfortable you can call and ask for more but the best thing you can do is put on a binder and make sure you walking not sitting a lot but no lifting
Don’t be dependent on the pain pills. I was given 20 and I have 8 left. I took them round the clock the first few days then I took 800 MG Ibprofin instead.
Ok since we have some smart — people in here !!!
I wasn’t on anything when I got home But they gave me 30 pain pills to take if I needed them
Ice pack your wound and check for an infection. Maybe go in and see your doctor?
They gave me 40 and when I was still in pain, they gave me 14 more…
I asked for more and they happily gave me more
Go in and see the Dr just to be safe. With my 2nd c section I only needed ibprophen , so everyone is different just like every c section is
Im bout to have my 5th one and if ur not up and moving then you should. Tylenol should help if u get up and moving. And stay hydrated.
None you shouldn’t be in so much pain you’ll should get it checked
I asked for more and they gave me more, I was in a lot of pain as well
I got Dilaudid and it knocked me out and I only took it once. Scared the shit out of me
You should talk to your doctor. I had 4 c-sections and I didn’t have severe pain after a week or so. The one time I had continous pain I had a staple that was done wrong which was causing continous pain. You might need to get checked out to make sure something else isn’t going on.
Dr. Recommended….You can have 3 ibuprofen and 2 Tylenol every 4-6 hrs. works better to relieve pain than taken separately. My Dr told me its similar to hydrocodone pain relief wise without drowsiness. It worked wonders for me.
I would have it looked at. Pain should be manageable a week out!
is this your first c-section? my first was absolutely horrible with the pain after (i’ve had three). no lie. my doctor prescribed me more and after the second week, it was way better.
you might need to get checked for infection.
Its going to hurt for a bit but if your pain is uncontrolled a week out check back in with your doc to make sure you don’t have an infection.
My Dr prescribed 30 but the pharmacy would only fill 20 and he refused to write a new one to make up the difference for when those ran out. I just had to deal with it unfortunately not much you can do
I never got anything for all 3 of mine lol definitely needed something though the first week. Lots of advil and Tylenol at the same time
They gave me ibuprofen and a few pills of something stronger. I only needed ibuprofen except one time for my most recent c section. I’d definitely talk to your doctor! Can’t hurt to ask, its not drug seeking. You just had major surgery!
Ask for more. Or ask for demerol if it’s not cutting it. I did.
I was given morphine pills that lasted well into two weeks. You should definitely call them!
Motrin saved my life!! Liquid gels
You can ask for more just explain to them that you’re still having pain! You’re still healing and it can be a traumatic experience for the body. They gave me 30 both times I had my c section
I didn’t take any medication at all. You can take extra strength Advil/Tylenol.
Or maybe you could have an infection. Just contact your doctor.
Are you certain there’s no infection going on? Mine wasn’t overly painful and after a few days I was able to manage on just Panadol and ibuprofen
When I had my c section they gave me 600mg ibuprofen and a pain killer, I think for 10-14 days. The ibuprofen actually seemed to work better for me for the pain. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and that c section had me down and out!
Gave me nothing & I got a bad infection & & had very strong Antibiotics was in terrible pain "
I only used motrin and Tylenol after mine rotating the two for about a week. I know it’s painful but I suggest getting up and moving and much as possible it will hurt like hell but I recovered within a week and a half that way. However if your are in agony and that much pain then definitely call your dr bc maybe there is something more going on
I had a c-section back in 09 and I was given i believe 30 to go home with and then I called for more and got 30 more.
They gave me enough for 1 week and then refilled for another week.
They will refill you once. You need to tell them your 10/10 in pain and would like a refill in order to manage it for a few more days. They usually have no issue doing so. Keep in mind, you had MAJOR abdominal surgery!
None…. 3 sections and not prescribed anything for any of them!
i took 600 ibuprofen, no pain meds, didn’t touch my pain meds, I took gabapentin in hospital twice and walked my butt off. If you don’t move, you will get stiff and hurt
I was given about weeks worth maybe a little less and then told to deal with it. It was painful but tolerable though.
Damn they gave me $30 pills oxy
I left the hospital with 60 pain pills and 2 prescriptions
Ibuprofen and vicodin the first time. Second time ibuprofen and Tylenol with codiene.
Ice packs, and take ibuprofen and tylenol together every 6 hours. They will work together. Ibuprofen will work on inflammation and tylenol will help with pain. Ice will also help pain from the outside. But keep it on. Also, try and walk, moving can help at some point. I’m sorry your hurting…
But, no it’s not drug seeking if your still in pain and need something. You just need to make sure you talk to your doc. C sections are very hard on the body, and considered major surgery.
Just talk to your OB and see what they can do to help with it. Be patient with yourself. Also compression on your stomach help to compress and help to minimize some pain.
They may want you to come in to be checked before filling meds. But that’s ok if you really are in pain and need them.
Hope you get some relief.
If you get more alternate by over lapping your meds. An maybe try to do less lifting if you are doing alot at home.
It does take a year to completely heal.
Are you over doing it and going against discharge orders? Try rest, ibuprofen and alternate with Tylenol. Most doctors won’t give more pain meds due to the opioid problem that’s going on
yea ur not supposed to rely on pain killer atfer c section, i had taken 800mg ibpro after mine along with percs n i was fine. i used the ibuprofen file then pain meds,
You should have gotten more. I was always prescribed 30days worth.
Make sure to wear a stomach wrap if they gave you one.
I also had a c section about a week ago. I was told to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen. I was also given 20 oxycodone (with no Tylenol so I could take regular Tylenol at higher dosages). That said, call your ob office. IF they are willing to give you more they will definitely want to see you first. In the meantime, I highly recommend short walks, rest as much as possible, and being patient with yourself and your recovery. I know with the baby and any other kids it’s harder but it’s essential for recovery.
I was never prescribed anything. I’m a nurse and honestly that would seem drug seeking to me as u can buy Tylenol in high doses at drug store
May I suggest Tylenol arthritis as it’s a high dose
You can call your Dr and get a refill. I did it
I got 20 oxycodone. I didn’t take all of them I put some up for just in case. But I did have to call my doctor when I left the hospital and ask for pain pills because I wasn’t given anything and told not to take ibuprofen as it’s a blood thinner and I hemmoraged. I think if I was still hurting I’d ask for something else or more. But I’ve have 6 living and 2 angels and I no longer care if I annoy them if I’m in pain ill ask for more.
I took Motrin and tried to move around as much as possible, but nothing super strenuous. The wrap from the hospital helped a bit as well.
I never got given any pain killers after my planned section just paraseatmol & ibruphen x
None tylenol was all I got. Get up and move more. Push thru the pain
Walking is a great way to heal from a C-section.
Ice packs on the scar helped me a lot also alternate heating pad.
I wasn’t in pain when I went home the only time I was is when I over did it but they didn’t prescribe me anything bc I didn’t want them to but they were going to give me Percocet to take home
But I just reset for a week
Are you taking the Tylenol and ibuprofen together? If not take one of each at the same time or get Advil dual. It gives the same pain relief of a narcotic without the side effects.
This is exactly the type of thing that prescription opiates are for! Calling when you’re in pain after a major surgery is not drug seeking
I had 3 vaginal births and was given 40 percocet for home/recovery.
100% ask for more if you’re in pain. Some people handle pain better than others, true, but don’t listen to the folks all “I was sent home with nothing and was fine! Just take advil and tylenol!”
Like I’d imagine you’re already doing that and it isn’t cutting it, so call! Do not let anyone undermind you or make you feel like you shouldn’t be hurting so much. I bet if you call they will at least refill for a few more days.
I was given 10 pain pills. I kept up on 1000 mg of Tylenol every 8 hours in the dot and 800 mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours on the dot. Literally every 4 hours I was taking something. I also walked right away which seemed to help. I didn’t bend much to avoid pain. I’m 7 weeks out. I only used my pills at night because after a day with 2 kids I was hurting so it helped me sleep.
My doctor prescribed a high dosage ibuprofen at 600mg. You can take 3 - 200mg pills to equal the same. It’s your preference to take a horse pill size or regular size pills.
My Dr gave me a prescription but my kids father wouldn’t let me fill it. I had like maybe 3 pills while I was in the hospital. If the nurse came in while he was there he’d give me a look that I knew I better not take any pills no matter how much pain I was in.
