I’m a little concerned about my little guy he’ll be 3 June 15th and he isn’t talking. Is that considered a speech delay? My daughter didn’t talk till she’ll was about 3.5 should I just let him be or should I have him tested or something
Thanks
I would definitely mention it to his doctor.
Definitely have him tested
My son was the same we went to our local regional center and they helped us. They did lots of test autism and all that. Then when he was 3 they helped us set up the IEP meeting with lausd so he could start school and get help in class with his speech delay
Definitely sounds like a speech delay. My younger two boys had speech delays & started speech therapy around 18 months.
Early intervention is really important if it is some sort of delay. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. I would mention it to your child’s doctor or get them in with a developmental pediatrician.
My lo turned 2 in April. He says mama and that’s it, we have a referral for speech
Ped should of brought up speech therapy at 2 if he wasn’t talking
Contact your local school district and have him evaluated through childfind.
I’d get him tested for speech delay my son is 3 has had a speech delay since he was 2.5 he is doing a lot better he is going to preschool and has speech therapy 3 days a week… when he was tested they had his speech down as a 18 month old instead of a 2.5 year old when it was done… also have his hearing tested as well that can cause issues with speech too
Well what did you do with your daughter?
If he does everything else ok I would t worry about it, he will talk when he’s ready
For sure talk to his pediatrician …
Give him a little more time. Some just bloom late
Have him evaluated by a speech therapist! Get into speech therapy asap! Ny little boy has been in speech for two years and it has helped so much!
Have him tested mine didn’t talk and dr advised speech therapy.
My son wasn’t talking at 2 and was sent to a speech therapist. That mixed with daycare… he was talking and actually using full sentences not even 6 months later.
My son had speech therapy at age 4, one of the reason was how he swallowed, tongue wasn’t in right position when swallowing…I know sounds weird…we practiced putting tongue on roof of mouth and making sounds like a horse trotting…plus couple other little issues…get tested… doesn’t hurt and it could help…
My LO is almost 3, he was speech delayed. His speech has REALLY taken off in the last few months. Our pediatrician wasn’t very worried about it. She said that boys are a lot of times motor skills first, and focus on that. He knew everything we said and followed simple direction, just didn’t have a lot of interest in talking.
It’s considered delayed speech and they’re able to get early intervention of they’re not talking at two. Definitely have him evaluated. He can still get free EI through public school.
Don’t ever ask for medical advice on the internet. See a doctor. Please it’s your job, your family
getting tested wont hurt anything all it can do is help. early intervention helps more than anything. my son wasnt saying much at 2 i pushed for the testing because of my history of speech therapy. hes now 3 going to be 4 and is closer to where his peers r now after a yr of speech therapy. he still has around another yr of speech therapy at least to get him caught up or close to caught up.
Wow… All of mine are annoying little chatterboxes lol! At about 10-12 months old they should say 5 or more words around 1.5 years to 2 they should be using small sentences. So this seems like a big speech delay and something you should speak to a pediatrician about… Gl mom!
My daughter was evaluated at 2.5 yrs old…and although she didn’t pass the verbal parts, she passed the cognitive with flying colors. She understood exactly what was be said and asked of her, she just chose not to verbalize it. Fast forward to a year later, I can’t keep her quiet
Definitely talk to his doctor about it. Should probably be talking at least a little by 3… My daughter was talking like crazy
Is your daughter talking for him? Or are others?
My sister didnt talk till she turned 3 and shes 16 and wont shut up lol
Like she didnt say anything
My daughter is 3 and talks alot some words are hard to understand or she doesn’t say properly so we’re on a wait list for speech . My middle child has a severe speech delay and turned out he had fluids in his ears that was causing him to lose half of his hearing. So he had surgery for ear tubes their out now and his hearing is good but we see the dr in few days to check again his speech is abit better but still hard to understand sometimes and he’s 6
How has yours daughter’s speech developed?
Does she speak for him?
Second children often speak at a later time.
Does he hear? Does he gesture and speak in baby lingo? If so, I would not worry too much.
I would say 3 in a bit behind. I thought my nephew was not blabbing as he should and he just turned 2… But he’s repeating words and doing much better in the past month.
My son’s bday is June 15th as well! But he’s a big 11 this year.
Monday countries usually have some program that will test and hello with these delays, absolutely free of charge. Only been 2 months but we see a difference in our 2yo already. Our program was called early on. Connected to our school district
I would talk to your pediatrician. He/She can let you know if your child is missing some milestones. I’m having issues right now with my son, not with his speaking, though. His school told me he didn’t know how to read but he will randomly read things out loud at home. I ask him why he won’t do his reading or language assignments at school and he says “because they tell me to”, “they have too many rules” etc. He is 7 and on the spectrum lol
Test to be safe mine girl was 3 before she started talking figure when she was ready n had sumthing to say she d talk now she s going to be 6 her stiin july n going into the 1st grade n dont stop talking . her sister was .not even a 1 yr old n had 200+words already in her vocabulary …
Mine didnt really start talking til 2. Then his vocab bloomed. So to be honest if your daughter is doing fine after talking at 3.5 then he might be fine too
I would talk with your doctor. He may have something going on that nobody knows, such as a speech problem; tubes in his ears etc; Or he may just not have anything to say right now. I have a 2 friends on my Facebook that have been to the doctor about it; 2 yrs old &’ 3 yrs old &’ they just don’t want to talk yet.
My boy had chronic ear infections and tubes by the time he was 10 months old. His speech was delayed to 3 yrs old.
find a center that is about early childhood development, and a pediatrician. speech therapist
He should definitely be talking long before 3. That would certainly be considered a delay. I would have been speaking to a doc and looking into speech therapy over a year ago…
Yes it is. We are going through a program called babies can’t wait, with my 2.5 year old now with speech. They are saying he should be able to speak in 5 word sentences by 2.5 years. Ask his Dr for referral.
If he can hear you fine and understands what you say to him then he most likely just isn’t ready to talk yet, my fourth child didn’t talk till almost 4 but there was nothing wrong with his hearing and he had other ways of communication but once the words started it was all normal and he is going to be 20 the 31st and never an issue with his speech.
You should probably be asking your pediatrician this question.
I was tested before i turned 3 for speech. I had an iep from three through high school. I was very stubborn and shy on top of it. I’m 35 now and i am a preschool teacher. Never give up on your kids
My son is 2.5 and just barely starting to talk, just a few words. He’s been in speech therapy and early intervention sine he was 18 months. Does he say a few words? Or none at all? My son never babbled as a baby and for sure has a speech delay. He still doesn’t say mama or dada, just single syllable words like “hi” or his newest word “out” it’s taken us a whole to get here but we are super happy to see progress. If you are really worried talk to your pediatrician about speech therapy. I’m surprised they never suggested it to you, but maybe that means they aren’t worried about it. Kids all go at different speeds as far as milestones and growing. Just give it time. Flash cards are great and baby sign language is a great way to kinda open that communication door. My son signs “more” all the time.
daughter was 3.5 anything wrong with her? Think he just doesn’t need to yet? Ah Flash cards as Dawn suggested?
Some children want to some not. I wouldn’t worry to much make him tell you what he wants. I bet he knows how to talk just doesn’t need to?
My son is 2.5 an goes to speech therapy as he’s doesn’t talk x
My daughter who will be 3 in September talks in at least 6 words sentences and has been doing so for a good 6 months…every child is definitely different but I think this needs to be brought up with his doctor…have you had his ears checked as in cleaned? It could be as simple as that but it could also be much more
Is it he can’t talk or he just doesn’t want to? Cause some kids myself and my cousin included knew the words we just didn’t want to talk until later and it wasn’t small words we came out with whole phrases and convos and stuff my son will be 3 in August and he’s just recently started talking but not just words he’s saying phrases and he understands what you’re talking about and everything he just didn’t wanna talk til now idk
My boy started talking later then his sister did I guess it’s relatively common for boys
Yes have him tested for asbergers are autisum it could hes just alittle slow not all kids are the same
My youngest didn’t start talking til almost four. She kinda had her own language. About a month before she was supposed to start speech therapy she started talking and has yet to shut up…lol
I went through the same thing with my son at three, I thought something was wrong with him,I took to see the doctor. Now he’s eight now and I can’t get him to be quiet!..lo…omg! Just be patient with him, your son will talk when he’s ready❤
