Why do toddlers gag themselves?

Does anyone have an issue with their toddler (mine is 17 months) sticking their figures down their throats and gagging themselves? Do you know why they do this. We thought it was a sign of hunger but he does it all the time.

Mine is almost 18 months and she just started doing this.

My kids did this as well, no idea why

Mine did it… we never knew why but he did grow out of it

It’s a phase. My son did it as well. I stopped acknowledging it and he stopped doing it.

Just a phase. My 2 1/2 year old outgrew it

Mine did in phases. I noticed it correlated with right before teething…

Yup perfecting normal, something they discover they can do. I recommend 100% ignoring it, and they will stop. Attention will make them want it more

Yea both my kids did it while they were teething but eventually stopped

Yes, her doctor said its for attention to just ignore it.
Even if your LO pukes(obviously clean up afterwards). Eventually they’ll stop, mine did.

They grow out of it, it’s a new feeling and they’re testing out what they can do. If you think this is bad wait until the penis phase.

My daughter did this for the longest time. . finally she did it till she puked. . i made her help clean it up. . hasn’t gagged herself since

Normal. It’s for attention

It’s just them exploring their bodies. My youngest is about a year and a half and did this, as well as sticking his fingers in his ears and nose. It’s something new they will grow out of.

Mine did it. I think they do it just to do it. He’ll stop eventually.

My son did it when he was teething or when his throat was sore.

Trying to figure out how to suck their thumb or they’re hungry. Just keep letting em do it till they learn

My doctor said they sometimes do this if they’re having sinus drainage. My son did for a long time.

My daughter did it for a short period. They stop eventually

Could be an itchy throat due to allergies?

My 6 month old does it lol

My son went through that and I thought it was so funny.

My daughter who will be 11 months old on Tuesday just started doing this the other day :woman_facepalming:t2: don’t know why but it’s scary. I just take her hand out of her mouth and tell her no.

It’s a Phase/Attention seeking

My son has caused himself to vomit twice doing this.

He’s self stimulation. Some kids like that.

Omg my oldest use to do this all the time. Drove me nuts. She eventually grew out of it but it went on for almost 2 friggen years.

My 13 month old does this once in awhile as well! :woman_facepalming:

My son does this with his fingers… :expressionless: mainly because its something new. The feeling is different and he likes when it gets my attention.
