Would it be weird to pursue a woman with the same name as my mom?

I am a Single Man of 50 and have been single for 6 years… Tbh I receive more than average attention when drinking in the local bars…I promised myself I would stay single until I found a women whom I found attractive and ticks all the boxes… Recently I found a women who stares at me like no women as ever starred before, She as natural beauty, and also as a charm a find hard to resist… Obviously she is surrounded by many men but I don’t see them as competing as I’m a handsome chap with alot of female friendly humour…However there is a dilemma… Obviously they as to be a problem because cupid always puts the odd obsticle in the way…She as the same name as my mum and I find it hard not to think of it as I just find it abit a werid and off putting… Would you go for a guy who had the same name as your dad or invent a nickname or leave the situation before anything happens…

Just don’t call her mom on accident and you’ll be ok

it’s a name. If she ticks all the boxes and she’s into you, you’ll figure it out-I sure wouldn’t let it stop you, if I were you.

It’s just a name… go be happy life is short

My husband and brother have the same name and it’s never been weird to me. I call my brother “Bubba” and I doubt you call your mother by her name. If you like this person, I wouldn’t let her name get in the way.

I have the same name as my boyfriend’s sister. :joy:

Figure a way to get over the name thing. This could be your happy ever after! Call her by her name and then nonchalantly joke around about your mom had the same name and ask her if you can call her whatever her name may be shortened, or maybe she even has a nickname that her friends call her. If you click together and continue to see other, I’m sure she will have no issues with a nickname

Get over it. You’re 50! You’ve not even dated her yet. Maybe she’ll want you to change your name.

Yeah I think I’d just give her a nickname tbh… Haha explain it to her first obviously she will understand I’m sure.
And you call your mum “mum” not by her name yeah? So shouldn’t be weird.

Come up with a cute nickname.

Ron Swanson married two women named Tammy… we all know how that worked out

What are you doing calling your mother by her first name? If you call your mother by her first name that’s weird to me. Most people call their mothers mom. But if it really bothers you that much is there a short nickname you could call her? I wouldn’t think it would be bothersome just to call her her name in all honesty just because you don’t call your mother by her first name anyway. At least most don’t.

My uncle dated women with same name as his mom and sisters :joy: he even married a woman with same name as his mother.

My dad married a woman (my mother) who shares the same first name as his youngest sister, whose name is my grandmother’s middle name. Itvis only weird if you make it weird.

My brothers girlfriend literally has the same first and middle name as me🤣 he was weirded out at first but honestly its just a name.I would give her a nickname and focus on getting to know her.

Just a name. I married someone with my uncles name. I’ve also dated someone with my dad’s name lol

I have a friend who’s husband, father, brother and nephew all have the same name(Sr, Jr and the III) it’s not like she could ask him to go back and change his name. Her love and attraction to him have nothing to do with his name.

So her name is Mom? Wtf who cares?

Does she have a middle name?

I’ve dated men with the same name as my dad and brother. Give her a nickname.

I don’t think it’s weird. Go for it.

Just as a side note, in my experience, any man who feels that he has ‘female friendly humour’ down pat, usually has anything but. And what is ‘female friendly humour’ anyway? Am I only supposed to be laughing at designated, appropriate humour deemed acceptable for women? Fuck, I missed that memo  She may potentially be staring because she is astounded by your audacity…

I have been with my partner for 7 years he has the same name as my dad, but I call him by his nickname so the thought of the same name has never crossed my mind

What would Jesus do jus sayin, lol

Lmao my moms name is Lois and my dads mom is Lois.
Ironically my dads name is rob, and that is also my moms dad and brothers names.
Literally EVERY ONE in my family is rob or Lois.
It’s a weird flex :joy:

I don’t think having the same name would be an issue, take it slow stress less

So my Father and Brother are named Patrick and I just couldn’t date or find anyone with that name attractive for some reason. But now the father of my child and man I want to be with forever has a sister named April and I don’t find it weird at all and neither does he. Him and his sister aren’t all that close or have much in common but I love her. Lol I guess it’s all on how you feel about the person. I think if it’s worth it, it shouldn’t matter. My heart knew none of those “Pat” or “Patrick’s” were right for me, the name thing was just a way to put an excuse to a vibe… I think.

My partner has the same name as my grandpa and I’m the same name as his sister lol . If you like her go for it

Just call her “Puta.” Women love that shit.

Ive dated guy with my dads name. Didnt bother me

This may be weird but my grandfather both his wife’s names were Marilyn. My mom is with my stepdad and he has the same name as her dad

This is just weird!!! I dated someone with the same name as my dad. My mother and my dad’s sister had the same name. No one ever gave it a thought. My granddaughter’s husband, son and late father-in-law all have the same name. I think this fella is looking for a way out.

Don’t call her name out when you’re having sex with her… and you should be good :+1:t3:

You could give her a nickname if it was an issue, but don’t you call your mom “mom” anyway? Lol

My mom and grandma (paternal) have the same first name, Wilma. Neither of them like their first, so both go by their middle names, but my dad called my grandma and said he found the sweetest most beautiful girl in the world, then asked his mom to guess her name. When he finally told her my mom’s name, she said "Oh that poor girl! I hope she has a good middle name.":joy: I’ve never thought anything about it, other than it’s neat.

You can give her a nickname, but it’ll still look like you married your mom on paper if you get that far. You cool with that?

Does she even like nicknames? Because if she doesn’t you have to ask yourself a VERY uncomfortable question… can you yell your mother’s name during sex? That’s your answer to if you should pursue this girl. :joy:

Thats why we like being called babe for the rest of our ex-histence dont worry

My first crush was my Dads name. William, Bill, Billy - I got the short straw. He smelled good, and I still find him attractive after 20 years. Go for it!

Don’t leave a chance at real love untaken. Tell her what’s up and that it creeps you out and together find her a nickname. Good Luck…

After a while, you won’t even think of if it that way. It’s new so it’s on your brain. There’s names I don’t care for but when you meet someone with that name, it becomes normal again…

I’d never date a guy with my Dad’s name. :confounded:

That’s what pet names are for. Babe, hunny, sweetie, love. If she is gold. Don’t let something like a name ruin it.

I dated and married someone who has the same name as one uncle and the same birthday as a different uncle. Even weirder his brother and one of my brothers have the same names.

You can’t handle who your heart falls for… Try it, she might or might not be the one. Good luck!

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND A NICKNAME.
… I mean can’t be moaning mom or dads name like that. Ew. Or not even that lol it’s just sorta awkward

Just call her babe, darl, honey , sexy women love that lol

I would say go for it you only live once.

I don’t see that as a problem but if it’s off putting to you, then leave it alone. Nobody wants to date someone who is turned off by their name reminds them of thier mom

I wouldn’t care what his name was if I liked him. That’s silly.

I probably could only date someone with the same name as my dad if he had a good nickname. Otherwise I’d be turned off because I would always think of my dad.

I married a guy with the same name as my brother. Thought it would ne weird but its isnt

To this day his guy friends call him Babe js
I hope you fine love in her beauty, she is a rare find

My biggest crush in middle school had the same name as my dad and the guy I almost married had the same name as my brother. You can’t help who you fall in love with. I called him babe most of the time anyway.

It’s weird because you are making it weird.
Otherwise it’s not weird. Give her a nickname…like Notmom or Franny Freud

My best friend/ex boyfriend name was Billy/Bill ( my dad’s name is Billy) but he went by Joker or Bill. He had other nicknames that I personally would call him but he mostly went by Bill or Joker.

Unless her name is “Mom” what’s the problem? Do you call your mom by her first name?

Go for it. It’s just a name. If she would make you happy, your mom would be happy :purple_heart:

If you enjoy her, who cares

It is just a name. Don’t let your brain sabotage something good for you. Nobody else with your name is you, so why hold it against your future wife?

I love this post so much!
As the saying goes: women usually marry a guy who’s a lot like their dad….
I guess it could be the same the other way around.
I, for one, ended up with my fathers name as my last name hahaha

Yes, it’s just a name… I like my dad’s name… I know someone who married someone same name as their ex wife… so it’s just a name.

Tbh my dad’s name is Dick, every guy I’ve ever dated has ended up named after him.

Im a Suzanna and my MIL is a Suzanne, I love her and we all have an amazing relationship, we don’t even notice honestly, so no not weird at all!

What would be weird is if you had a daughter and she has the same name as her.

I say don’t let the same name get in the way of a potential relationship. Its only weird if u make it weird. If it’s a big deal then maybe u can come up with a nickname for her so its less of an issue.

You could always come up with a nickname if you guys became serious.

My husband has the same name as my father and uncle

My dads name is Michael
My sister married a Michael
I was dating a Michael
It’s honestly just a name
