Do any mommas grocery shop once a month? Can you give me tips, how much you spend, menu plans, lunches, all the details please?
I shop more than once a month— BUT online grocery shopping has helped me soooo much! I meal plan & add to cart as I’m planning!
I buy my bulk stuff once a month at Costco… ground beef, pork roasts, pork chops, tri tips, bacon, and sausage. I try to wait for a case lot sale at Smith’s to get my canned goods, but they don’t always have them. I’ll buy big bags of broccoli, mixed vegetables, and usually cauliflower at walmart. I usually only have to shop for fresh veggies, breads, and tortillas…
I have a family of seven and usually some guests… so the bulk shopping ensures that we USUALLY have enough.
Meal planning is important so you dont buy unnecessary items. As you meal plan make a list whe checking to see what you have on hand. It’s time consuming. But worth it. When you can buy meats in bulk at Costco or Sam’s. As well as stocking up on cereals and paper products
Look up the group " mama needs a recipe " on fb. They’re AMAZING
Make a menu, then make a grocery list off the menu. Buy staples in bulk such as rice, flour, beans, etc. Strictly follow the menu and grocery list.
I live rurally. Grocery shop biweekly. Family of 4, budget of $300 for two weeks ($600 a month) which covers our food as well as household items, diapers, etc. Shop sales, stockpile when you can. Plan meals that you can stretch or revive over two or more days. For example I’ll make a batch of chili which we will eat one night, then the next make a hot dish (tater tot casserole) and then freeze a serving for another. Spaghetti is another good one. Always keep a few freezer meals on hands like a lasagna for those nights you just don’t feel like cooking. Milk is the hard one if your family drinks it. That’s the one item that occasionally I have to make a run for.
Also, I live in California if that $600 a month seems high. Most of my friends back East tell me that our budget is insane but our cost of groceries is a lot higher.
I shop once a month, plan a menu, add in a few extra easy meal options in case you get in a pinch.
Start with what you already have in your pantry. Make a menu and then make a grocery list off of the menu. Only buy what is on your grocery list. I buy groceries one a month and I spend $100-$150 a month.
I plan meals even if they go to school only because woth covid right now I never know if I’m gonna be caught off guard again. I write out a calender and if you want they also have some free to download. I saved my family over 1,500 a month planning but I am also feeding a family of 12. I love doing it. And of course you can mix it up like taco Tuesday pasta Thursday things like that.
Make a list and Go. No tress over it put together meals or frozen
Your milk & bread will NOT last a month, so you need to go to the store more often.
I used to go every 2 weeks when my boys were small, but then when they became teenagers they ate so much more and I went more frequently.
Honestly, I think your ‘once a month’ is just unrealistic.
To add to what others said, stick with discount stores like Aldis if you have one in your area. You get way more with your money then regular stores
